Abrar averages across format:

FC - 25.50
List A - 25.70
T20 - 25.31

Consistency! Fantastic start for Abrar in the FC season with a whopping 20 wickets in 2 matches. Hard to see how he's not included in the upcoming Test squad vs England. Easily Pakistan's spinner & bowler in domestic at the moment.

You can call what you Want but it's got to spin away and sharply with control.

No it does not have to. Its a carrom ball. It is not supposed to turn like a leg spinner. Thats the diff between carrom ball and leg spin. Carrom ball turns less as compared to leg spi. because its bowled with finger not with wrist. But the turn produced by a carrom ball is sharper as compared to leg spin. You can watch theekshana's bowling to see that the carrom ball will not turn much but it is more potent than a leg spin.

first time ive seen his leggies/carrom balls, and the spin is surprising, i don't think I've seen many spin a carrom ball like that, not sure if its a last day pitch thing, but it would explain why his googly is so effective. great stuff, surely a must for the test series now.

I don't think Abrar bowls any carrom balls. I raised the point in his own thread as well and asked if anybody has a clear footage of him bowling carrom balls.

I tried to watch the highlights of his bowling spell/release with a keen eye yesterday. Those seemed leg spinners to me; the ones turning away. He has a quick arm release and doesn't stay very long in his action. That's why it is hard to read his hand.

But this is the first time I saw him actually spin his leg breaks, he was also getting some drift (also a first for him albeit it was with a semi new ball). This was probably his best career performance. I think if he keeps up the good work, a call-up to the test squad is a certain thing for England series.

Our spin stocks are so poor right now that we can do with a bowler who dows well just on Pakistan pitches

Ahmed Safi Abdullah registered his second first-class five-wicket haul as he took 6-132 against Northern.

He doesn’t look like an upgrade on Nauman not much turn won’t make an impact at international level looking at his bowling style.

The fifth round action of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy 2022-23 will commence from tomorrow, 21 October, at three different venues of the country with Northern leading the table with 68 points. Defending champions Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are sitting at the bottom with 26 points.

Tayyab’s teammate Abdullah Shafique, who has represented Pakistan in 11 international matches, is second on the batting chart, scoring 412 runs from four outings in the tournament at an average of 82.40. Abdullah has till date struck one century and two half-centuries in the tournament. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Sahibzada Farhan and Northern’s Faizan Riaz are the other two batters to score 400 runs in the competition so far.

In the bowling chart, Sindh’s mystery spinner Abrar Ahmed leads the roster with 20 scalps from two matches. He has one four-fer and three five-fers from the four innings with six for 100 being his best figures in an innings this season. He was the standout bowler for Sindh in their comprehensive 10-wicket win over Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in the fourth round match at the Pindi Cricket Stadium. Abrar’s teammate left-arm fast Mir Hamza occupies the third spot with 13 wickets from three matches. Between Abrar and Hamza is Northern’s right-arm off-spinner Mubasir Khan, who has taken 17 wickets from four games including a four-fer.

Meanwhile, three matches in the fifth round of Cricket Associations Championship will also be played from tomorrow at three different venues in Karachi. Central Punjab continue to lead the points table with 75 points, bagging three wins from four outings. They will take on fourth-placed Southern Punjab at the NBP Sports Complex. Second-placed Sindh (59 points) will square off against third-placed Balochistan (55 points) at the KCCA Stadium. The two sides ranked at the bottom – Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Northern will play against each other at the UBL Sports Complex.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa v Northern, Abbottabad Cricket Stadium, Abbottabad
Central Punjab v Southern Punjab, Multan Cricket Stadium, Multan
Balochistan v Sindh, Pindi Cricket Stadium, Rawalpindi

The faisalabad pitch appears a nightmare for bowlers. Can’t even get through 2 full innings in 4 days and it bloats the batting averages. Wonder what it would take to incentivize pitches that support quality cricket

Wow Mudassar clean bowls Bangalzai on the first delivery and it was an excellent one. Perfect inswing delivery.

Sindh looks to be the best team of the tournament right now. Batting is deep & the bowling has been solid too with Abrar carrying them and Umar being a solid complementary piece.

All-rounder Aamir Jamal recorded his first-class career’s second five-wicket haul on the first day of the fifth round of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy 2022-23 returning five for 38 for Northern against Khyber Pakhtunkhwa at the Abbottabad Cricket Stadium.

The right-armer accounted for Kamran Ghulam, Adil Amin, Mohammad Sarwar Afridi, Imran Khan Snr and Irfanullah Shah as Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were bowled out for 175 in just 38.5 overs.

Northern captain’s decision to not to contest the toss and opt for bowling paid dividends as the top-score in the innings was only 35 from opener Waqar Ahmed. Northern’s Athar Mehmood took three wickets for 95.

Northern, who already dominate the six-team points table, bagged six points (three for bowling out the opposition inside 100 overs and other three for restricting them under 200).

At the Pindi Cricket Stadium, Balochistan were 256 for five in 83.3 overs against Sindh as Imran Butt (60), Haseebullah (57 not out), Hussain Talat (54 not out) and Haris Sohail (50) scored half-centuries. The pair of Haseebullah and Hussain had put together 108-run stand for the sixth wicket by stumps.

Mystery spinner Abrar Ahmed was amongst the wicket-takers once again. He took three wickets for 93 and Ghulam Mudassar had taken two wickets for 69.

The first day of the Punjab Derby at the Multan Cricket Stadium saw Faheem Ashraf and Azhar Ali score half-centuries after Southern Punjab elected to bowl. Faheem Ashraf was unbeaten on 67, while Azhar made 61 before he was dismissed by Mohammad Sadaqat. Sadaqat and Mohammad Ilyas took two wickets each as Central Punjab were 244 for six after 79 overs.

Another Sindh match being broadcasted by PCB!

What the hell is going on there? Why is it heavily skewed like that? Sindh is now playing their 4th game at Pindi out of 5!

All teams should have got close to equal opportunities at Rawalpindi stadium. It not only gives Sindh unfair advantage of playing so many games at the same venue but also robs others players of chances to get noticed and have their performances highlighted.

I had been keenly waiting to see Northern in action and especially Mubasar's bowling. I was sure that Northern would be paying at Pindi stadium in this round but it's Sindh again. Only thing to look forward to is watching more of Abrar and trying to locate his carrom ball.

Does anyone know which ball are they using this season? I am impressed by the quality; the balls stays in a good shape and the shine doesn't wear off that easily.

So far not even 1 game of Northern has been broadcast which is very strange as they are somewhat an exciting team and leading the table hence should be broadcasted more.

Fantastic bowling from Mudassar & Umar with the new ball. Just ripping through their lineup with consistent tight line & length bowling and getting the ball to swing quite a bit. Good stuff from both pacers.

Lahore, 23 October 2022: Athar Mehmood’s splendid figures of six for 40 engineered Northern’s dominating nine-wicket win over Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on day three of what was the fifth-round encounter of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy 2022-23 at the Abbottabad Cricket Stadium.

This was Northern’s third win of the season and has furthered consolidated their position on top of the six-team points table.

After Northern scored 249 in reply of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s 175 yesterday, the latter began the day with a trail of 56 with nine wickets in hand.

But a brilliant display of fast bowling from Athar bowled out Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for just 121 runs as the right-armer accounted for Sajid Khan, Kamran Ghulam, Mohammad Sarwar Afridi, Imran Khan Snr and Ihsanullah after he had sent back Waqar Ahmed in the closing moments of day two. This was Athar’s maiden five-wicket haul.

Northern – set 48 to win - chased the target in 20.1 overs.

Sindh captain Saud Shakeel converted his overnight 30 into his third century of the season. The left-hander was unbeaten on 187 off 387 balls and smashed 20 fours as Sindh scored 390 in 123 overs.

The innings handed Sindh a 121-run lead over Balochistan, who find themselves in a precarious situation after losing three wickets for just 56 runs in 22 overs.

Southern Punjab were stuttering in their pursuit of 377 as they had lost two wickets for 80. Usman Salahuddin and Sharoon Siraj batted at 20 and 12 after opening pair of Umar Siddiq (36) and Zain Abbas (11) was dismissed by Faheem Ashraf and Mohammad Ali, who recorded his fifth first-class five-fer yesterday.

Splendid centuries from Abdullah Shafique and Azhar Ali saw Central Punjab post 274 for three at a run rate of nearly five in 57 overs after the day began with the batting side on four for none.

Abdullah smashed 15 fours in his unbeaten 168-ball 114 and Azhar struck 12 fours and a six in his 126-ball 108.

I realise that we’re all wallowing in our collective misery about the India result, but safe to say, this has been a cracking round of QEA trophy games.

Shout out to Saud Shakeel surging up the batting charts. Abdullah Shafique, Azhar Ali and Saud are 1, 2 and 3 on the QEA batting charts, and I would expect all three to line up against England. Really hope Saud gets his chance at Test level.

Abrar still keeps doing it man. He got another 5 wicket haul in the 2nd innings, and got big wickets like Haris Sohail and Bangalzai for Sindh v Balochistan. He also got three in the first innings as well, so defo not a 2nd innings merchant. By contrast, Yasir Shah isn’t playing at all, and Sajid Ali and Nauman Ali have 10 and 8 wickets in 4 matches Vs Abrar’s 28 wickets in 3 matches. Abrar absolutely has to play against England.

Mehran Mumtaz also continues to develop and gas 13 wickets in 4 games, and does not have a 5 wicket haul in those 13 wickets. At 20, he could be one who partners Abrar in a few years time.

Couple of other notes from the Sindh game. Mohammed Umar keeps chipping in with wickets ( 15 in 5 matches, w/ an avg of 32 albeit a s/r of 70) but is also adding useful runs down the order (108 runs in 5 matches, however that includes a 59 and a 44). Thus a useful test prospect in a couple of years time.

Saim Ayub, despite wasting his starts, is slowly going up the batting ranks as well. He’s currently 15th w/ 342 runs and an avg of 43. However he comfortably has the best s/r in the top 20 batters at 83. Again, one to keep an eye on.

For Northern, it was strange to see Mubasir not bowl in the first innings, but part of that was because Aamir Jamal took his first 5 wicket haul. Faheem also had a good showing in this round, so it may be between those two and perhaps Mubasir for the all rounder spot against England.

you forget to mention Asif Mehmood and Muhammad ali both have been pretty impressive especially ali who has taken another 5 wicket haul

A spellbinding performance by Abrar Ahmed handed Sindh their second consecutive win in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy 2022-23 as they defeated Balochistan by 10 wickets at the Pindi Cricket Stadium.

The mystery spinner took four wickets on the last day of the fifth round to record his fourth five-wicket haul in six innings after he had dismissed Abdul Wahid Bangalzai on Sunday. Abrar returned five for 49.

With 28 wickets at a brilliant average of 17.68, Abrar continues to be the leading wicket-taker this season as his extraordinary first-class run continues.

Balochistan, who trailed Sindh by 121 runs at the start of their second innings yesterday, were bowled out for 190 after beginning the proceedings on 56 for three. Kashif Bhatti, who batted at number eight, top-scored with 37 and his captain Asad Shafiq was the next best performer with the bat with 67-ball 31.

Openers Omair Bin Yousuf and Saim Ayub steered Sindh to the 70-run target safely, scoring 22 not out and 48 not out respectively.

The Punjab Derby ended in a draw at the Multan Cricket Stadium following a remarkable fightback by centurion Salman Ali Agha and Azam Khan, who made 73. Southern Punjab began the final day on 80 for two and had a second innings trail of 42 to surmount. Salman and Azam struck a 169-run partnership for the fifth wicket that brought Southern Punjab back in the game.

Salman made 103 off 169 and Azam made 78 off 130 as Southern Punjab made 330 for eight before stumps were drawn.

Mohammad Ali will remember the Multan Cricket Stadium for a long time as the right-arm pacer recorded his second fiver-fer of the match, returning five for 71.

Hopefully common sense prevails Abrar and Saud line up for day 1 of English series

KPK hammered again. The champions are really struggling.

Southern Punjab seemed set to complete an improbable chase but eventually settled for a draw. However I'm glad they gave it a go - they bottled out of a chase in Round 2. Central Punjab lacked a quality spinner.

Sindh finally are realising their potential and are handily placed to reach the final. They've a decent seam attack and Abrar is troubling the domestic batters, while they can score at a decent clip.

Abrar, another match and another 5 wicket haul. Just annihilation of domestic batters at this point.

Saim Ayub domestic stats look like one of a modern English batsmen:

FC - 42.75 AVG & 83 SR in 5 matches
List A - 48 AVG & 116 SR in 4 matches
T20 - 27.89 AVG & 142 SR in 19 matches

Just incredible SR in all three formats of the game and looks to be what a modern Saeed Anwar would look like. Really hoping he plays in the upcoming ODI matches vs NZ series.

Mohammad Ali took 5-71 against Southern Punjab to complete 11 wickets in the match.

Ihsanullah is in the making of a great test prospect, he bowls hard lengths and move it away , can be handful in SENA alongside Naseem and Shaheen.

At the halfway stage of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy 2022-23, Sindh, who sit at the second spot with 74 points from five matches, have their eyes set on what would be their first final since the introduction of a better and more competitive domestic cricket structure in 2019.

On Monday, they recorded their second win on the bounce as they rolled over Balochistan in a commanding 10-wicket win, thanks to outstanding spells from fast bowler Ghulam Mudassar and mystery spinner Abrar Ahmed – the two registered five-wicket hauls in the first and second innings respectively.

That Abrar – who stretched his blistering form to the third match with his fourth five-fer in six innings – had runs on the board to play with was because of his captain. Sindh were struggling at 61 for three in reply of Balochistan’s 269 and seemed on course for a below-par score, before Saud Shakeel pushed back the opposition with a defiant century that eventually put his side 121 runs ahead and paved way for a comfortable chase of 70 on the final day.

Sindh made 390 and Saud scored almost 50 per cent of those runs on his way to his career-best first-class score of 187 not out. This was his second successive hundred while he scored the first of his three tons this season against Northern in Faisalabad three weeks back with a gritty 158.

The left-hander had scored 13 centuries before this game in his brief 53-match first-class career, but what turned this innings into one of his best works was how he anchored his team back into the match.

Saud soaks pressure amidst collapses and he is the only batter in the ongoing edition of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy to have faced more than a thousand balls (1,077 to be precise). Realising the need to wear out the opposition as he rebuild the innings, Saud batted for 387 balls, stitching partnerships worth 99 with Fawad Alam (51), 107 with Muhammad Umar (44) and 70 with Ghulam.

The latter half of his magnificent innings stands out the most as he added 186 runs with the tail (batters from nine till 11) that lay an emphasis on how he can command an innings despite lack of support from the other end, something integral for middle-order batters.

“The key is to stick with the process and have faith,” said Saud, 27, after his side’s victory yesterday. “I follow a set process and have belief in my hard work. Rather than focusing on the uncontrollable, I focus on my process and that is reaping rewards.”

He is the best batter amongst non-Test players this edition with 486 runs at an average of almost 70. Overall, he is third on the list of the batters with most runs behind Central Punjab’s duo of Abdullah Shafique (531) and Azhar Ali (503).

He is one of the three players – Azhar and Tayyab Tahir being the other two – to have smashed three centuries this season.

Being a part of the national squad over the past few seasons has provided him access to plethora of batting knowledge with Mohammad Yousuf as the batting coach of the men’s side and over the national side’s assignments, Saud has made sure he makes the most of it.

“There’s always room for fine-tuning and the presence of Mohammad Yousuf has helped me in that regard. He is one of the greatest batters this country has ever produced and he provides me guidelines on how I can continue to excel as a batter.”

Saud made his first-class debut for Karachi Region Whites in October 2015 and is an ardent proponent of the format. When asked to reflect on the impact of longer-format on his career, Saud spoke how it provides a 360-degree evolution to a cricketer.

“First-class cricket has played an integral role in my development as a cricketer and I believe every youngster should play first-class cricket,” he said. “This format tests you. You are challenged every day – physically and mentally every session. My suggestion to every youngster is to attach the same level of importance with first-class cricket that you attach with T20.

Sindh missed out securing a berth in the final of the previous Quaid-e-Azam Trophy edition by seven points to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. This edition, they have defeated Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and have emerged as one of the contenders to play the final as their brilliant run in the 2022-23 season continues that started by bagging the National T20.

Saud credits his bowling unit for his side’s strong showing. “This bowling attack is making my life easy as a captain,” he said. “The most important bit in winning a first-class match is the ability to take all 20 opposition wickets and that is something which we had been lacking in the last seasons. This year, I have a solid bowling line-up.

“Abrar Ahmed has been good in the three matches he has played and he is the leading wicket-taker. Mir Hamza is also amongst the top wicket-takers. Ghulam Mudassar, playing his first [second] game, chipped in. Muhammad Umar continues to improve day by day and Asif is providing us breakthroughs at crucial moments.”

While his bowlers have stepped up this season, Sindh will continue to look at their captain to deliver with the bat at crunch situations as he did in Rawalpindi over the weekend as they aim for a maiden Quaid-e-Azam Trophy final under the competitive six-team structure.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa aim resurgence as Quaid-e-Azam Trophy moves towards the business end

Lahore, 26 October 2022:

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa entered this year’s edition of Quaid-e-Azam Trophy with back-to-back titles. Their run in this edition, however, has shocked many. At the halfway stage of the 10-round league phase, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa find themselves languishing at the bottom of the points table with three of their five matches ending in draws and two in defeats.

They have accumulated only 31 points, and have played against all their oppositions. When the second and final half of the four-day first-class tournament commences tomorrow, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will look to implement their learnings from the first five rounds and turn the fortunes around.

The schedule for the sixth round is the same as the first one’s with the roles of home and away sides reversed, so Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will be eager to avenge their 134-run defeat by Balochistan when the two sides meet at Multan Cricket Stadium.

Balochistan, since the win in their tournament opener, have had struggles of their own as their next four games resulted in two draws and two defeats, and that’s something Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will hope to exploit. Balochistan are only 16 points better than Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and are placed fourth in the points table.

The Abbottabad Cricket Stadium will stage the contest between top-ranked Northern and fifth-placed Southern Punjab. Northern have had an excellent first half of the tournament. Their three wins – the most for any side this edition – have garnered them 91 points. Southern Punjab, however, have not won any match to date.

When these two teams met in the first round, Northern, who were the finalists last year and in the 2019-20 edition, inflicted a heavy 10-wicket defeat on Southern Punjab. Since, Southern Punjab drew all four contests, while Northern enter this contest with a convincing nine-wicket win against Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Rivals Central Punjab and Sindh will face off in front of broadcast cameras at the Pindi Cricket Stadium. Interestingly, all of Central Punjab’s five matches have ended in draws, but one must expect a stiff contest from Sindh, who defeated Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan in the fourth and fifth rounds and enter the sixth round on a high.

Top performers

When Central Punjab and Sindh played in the first round, Abdullah Shafique scored a splendid 232 that remains the highest score of the tournament. The right-handed Test opener has since scored a century and two half-centuries in six innings and dominates the run-scoring charts with 531 runs at an average of 88.50.

His Central Punjab and Pakistan teammate, Azhar Ali sits a rung beneath him. The experienced middle-order batter is only the second player to have piled up more than 500 runs this season. He is also one of the three batters to score double-hundreds – Northern’s Faizan Riaz being the third one – and has scored 503 runs in only five innings at a staggering average of 100.60.

Sindh captain Saud Shakeel produced one of his best knocks against Balochistan in the last round and registered his highest first-class score of 187 not out. The left-handed middle-order batter is the only player to have faced over a thousand balls in this season and has converted all of his 50s into 100s, which brings to light his remarkable consistency. Saud has the third most runs this season (486 at 69.43).

Central Punjab would have gone back to drawing board ahead of their match against Sindh after watching Abrar Ahmed take wickets for fun this year. The mystery spinner is in blistering form and has 28 wickets at an average of 17.68 from only three matches. It seems like the batters have no clue on how to read him as his six innings have resulted in four five-wicket hauls and one four-fer with six for 100 being his best figures of the tournament.

After a fantastic display of fast bowling at the Multan Cricket Stadium, in which he took six wickets in the first innings and five in the second against Southern Punjab, Central Punjab’s Mohammad Ali is second on the list of bowlers with the most wickets with 20 at an average of 20.25.

Twenty-year-old Mubasir Khan is third on the list with 17 wickets at an average of just a shade over 25. The Northern all-rounder was player of the tournament in the last edition and has stretched his form this season as well.

Cricket Associations Championship 2022-23

Quetta’s Bugti Stadium will host Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan as the six second XI sides of the teams participating in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy continue their journeys in the four-day non first-class tournament. This will be the first Cricket Associations Championship match in the city this tournament.

Karachi’s UBL Sports Complex and NBP Sports Complex will host Southern Punjab v Northern and Sindh v Central Punjab respectively.

Central Punjab have won four of their five matches and lead the points table with 98 points. Sindh are second with three wins and 78 points. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan and Southern Punjab – all having won two matches – are third, fourth and fifth, and Northern with a solitary win and 49 points are sixth.

An outstanding display of fast bowling by Aamer Yamin saw Sindh getting bowled out for a paltry 188 against Central Punjab at the Pindi Cricket Stadium on the first day of the sixth round of Quaid-e-Azam Trophy 2022-23.

The right-arm pacer picked up his ninth five-wicket haul in first-class cricket with five for 54 in 16 overs as Sindh’s innings was wrapped in 56 overs.

Aamer accounted for Omair Bin Yousuf, Fawad Alam, Sarfaraz Ahmed, Muhammad Umar and Abrar Ahmed.

Central Punjab’s and the tournament’s leading run-scorer Abdullah Shafique was the only wicket to fall in the second innings. In 17 overs, Central Punjab were 48 for one with Abid Ali (29) and Azhar Ali (14) at the crease.

Half-centuries from Asad Shafiq and Abdul Wahid Bangalzai had Balochistan batting 262 for five against Khyber Pakhtunkhwa at the Multan Cricket Stadium.

Asad, the Balochistan captain, made 88 off 160 – hitting 10 fours and a six – and Abdul Wahid scored 59 off 92 (10 fours).

Haris Sohail fell eight runs short of half-century. The left-handed middle-order batter made 89-ball 42 (five fours and a six),

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Niaz Khan, Ihsanullah, Sajid Khan and Israrullah picked up a wicket each.

Southern Punjab’s Umar Siddiq and Usman Salahuddin smashed centuries against Northern at the Abbottabad Cricket Stadium as the batting side were 249 for two in 79.

Umar made 117 off 209 (16 fours and a six) and Usman was unbeaten on 108 off 228 (16 fours). This was Umar’s 14th first-class century and Usman’s 25th.

For the first time in this edition of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy, Northern are struggling as they were four down for only 94 in reply of Southern Punjab’s mammoth 566 at the close of day two at Abbottabad Cricket Stadium.

Fast bowler Sameen Gul took three wickets for 23 in eight overs and Test cricketer Mohammad Abbas recorded one for 39 on Friday. When Northern, who top the six-team points table, commence their innings tomorrow with talented youngsters Mohammad Huraira (39) and Mubasir Khan (18) at the crease, they have an improbable task of avoiding the follow-on, which is still 273 runs away.

Northern, however, would put faith in Huraira and Mubasir to provide them a solid start on Saturday, considering how promising the starts of these two were in first-class cricket. Huraira, last year, became the second youngest Pakistani to score a triple-century and was the batter of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy 2021-22 and Mubasir, for his all-round heroics, was named player of the tournament.

Southern Punjab’s Salman Ali Agha, earlier in the day, brought up his second century on the bounce and became the third centurion in the innings after Umar Siddiq made 117 and Usman Salahuddin scored 108 yesterday. Usman added 18 more runs to his overnight score before he was dismissed on 126.

Salman made 103 at a sparkling strike rate of 101.98 and hit nine fours and two sixes.

Southern Punjab captain Hasan Ali smashed his fourth first-class half-century, scoring 53 off 38 (four fours and five sixes) and Ali Usman made 38 not out off 29 as Southern Punjab declared the innings at the loss of seven wickets.

Nineteen-year-old wicketkeeper Haseebullah scored his first-class career’s maiden century against Khyber Pakhtunkhwa at the Multan Cricket Stadium. The Balochistan wicketkeeper made 100 not out off 202 balls, hitting 12 fours, and stitched a solid 201-run partnership for the sixth-wicket with all-rounder Hussain Talat, who also made a century, scoring 112 off 195. In what was his fifth ton in the format, Hussain smashed 13 fours.

Balochistan declared at 487 for seven. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s problems compounded as four of their batters had made their way back to the pavilion at 18.1 overs mark and only 52 runs on the board. Akif Javed took two wickets for 26, while Bilawal Iqbal and Yasir Shah took a wicket each.

After picking up a five-wicket haul yesterday, Aamer Yamin produced an impressive performance with the bat for Central Punjab against Sindh, blasting 63 off 49. The right-handed batter smashed nine fours and a six and was the top-scorer for Central Punjab as they made 305 for 10 in 95.5 overs.

In an innings in which three batters missed half-centuries by close margins – Azhar Ali out on 48, Qasim Akram on 47 and Abid Ali on 44 – Ali Shan was the other batter to breach the 50-run mark as he made 84-ball 55 not out (five fours and two sixes).

Abrar Ahmed continued to shine as he was once again the pick of the bowlers, picking up four wicket for 82. Muhammad Umar took three wickets for 63 and Mir Hamza returned two for 69.

Sindh, trailing by 116, resume their second innings on one for none on Saturday.

Lahore, 29 October 2022: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s woes amplified on the third day of their four-day first-class match against Balochistan at the Multan Cricket Stadium as Yasir Shah’s 34th five-wicket haul forced them to follow-on in the ongoing sixth round of Quaid-e-Azam Trophy 2022-23.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa were bundled for 215 in reply of Balochistan’s imposing 487 for seven as the Test leg-spinner returned five for 57 in 18.1 overs. Only three Khyber Pakhtunkhwa batters scored above 20 with Sajid Khan and Sahibzada Farhan scoring half-centuries – 68 off 116 and 62 off 117, respectively – and opener Waqar Ahmed making 24 off 33.

Yasir added two more wickets to his tally before the end of day’s play as Khyber Pakhtunkhwa lost three wickets for 137. Yasir sent Waqar Ahmed (36) and Maaz Sadaqat (0) back to the pavilion. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa need another 135 runs to avoid an innings defeat. Kamran Ghulam (38 off 53) and Rehan Afridi (23 off 31) will resume the innings on the final day tomorrow.

Despite a fighting century by wicketkeeper Rohail Nazir, Northern face the possibility of being asked to follow-on by Southern Punjab as they were still 33 runs away with only one wicket in hand.

Northern were lifted to 334 for nine after they resumed their day at a precarious 94 for four and lost their fifth wicket without any addition to the total when Mohammad Abbas, who recorded a five-wicket haul, sent Mohammad Huraira back to the pavilion.

Abbas also became 30th Pakistani bowler to breach the 600-first-class-wicket mark today.

Rohail, former Pakistan U19 captain, made 100 not out off 240 (15 fours and a six) and stitched crucial partnerships worth 81 for the sixth wicket with Mubasir Khan (74) and 116 for the eighth wicket with Nauman Ali (38).

But, the fast bowling pair of Abbas (five for 85) and Sameen Gul (three for 56) was too hot to handle for Northern. Southern Punjab captain Hasan Ali picked up the other wicket.

Saad Khan’s brilliant unbeaten century helped Sindh turnaround their contest against Central Punjab at the Pindi Cricket Stadium as they were 300 for four at stumps after starting the day with a trail of 116.

In what was his fourth first-class century and first of the ongoing Quaid-e-Azam Trophy, Saad made 139 not out off 222 balls, hitting 23 fours and a six.

Pakistan Test batter Fawad Alam missed his century by 17 runs as he was dismissed for 83. The left-hander played 96 balls and stroked 13 boundaries.

The pair of Saad and Fawad stitched a crucial 153-run fourth wicket partnership. They came together with Sindh 147 for three.

Yasir Shah’s fifth 10-wicket haul for the match handed Balochistan their second win of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy 2022-23 as they defeated Khyber Pakhtunkhwa by seven wicket at the Multan Cricket Stadium on the fourth and final day of round six.

The Test leg-spinner recorded his second five-wicket haul in the match by adding three more scalps to his tally on Sunday. He returned five for 115 as Khyber Pakhtunkhwa - after fighting 92 and 61 from Kamran Ghulam and Sahibzada Farhan - were bowled out for 324, setting 53-run target. In the first innings, Yasir had taken five wickets for 57.

Balochistan overhauled the target in 4.2 overs as Haseebullah made 16-ball 23 and Abdul Wahid Bangalzai smashed two fours and a six in his unbeaten 12-ball 16.

The other two contests in the round ended in draw.

Wicketkeeper Rohail Nazir’s fascinating 149 helped Northern avoid a follow-on. Northern began the day with only one wicket in hand and had to score 33 more runs to avoid being asked to bat for the second time in the match.

Rohail, yesterday, had scored this third first-class century and was unbeaten on 100. He added 49 to his score. Overall, he hit 23 fours and two sixes in his 297-ball innings and with his dismissal, Northern’s innings ended at the score of 388.

Another Northern youngster outshone in the match as Mubasir Khan – the player of the tournament in the last edition of Quaid-e-Azam Trophy – picked up five wickets for 115 as Southern Punjab ended the day and match on 261 for seven.

Mubasir now has joint second most wickets (22 with Mohammad Ali of Central Punjab) in the tournament and is the leading bowler for Northern.

Usman Salahuddin made his second century of the match – his 26th overall – as he returned unbeaten on 100 off 154 (10 fours and a six), while Hasan Ali’s bat continued to smash boundaries. The Southern Punjab captain spanked 57 off 39 – in which he hit five sixes and four fours. He had smashed 38-ball 52 (again five sixes and four fours) in the first innings.

Aamir Yamin topped up his first innings five-wicket haul with four for 73 as the contest between Central Punjab and Sindh at the Pindi Cricket Stadium also ended in a draw. Saad Khan converted his overnight 139 into 161 as Sindh were bowled out for 219 in 113.3 overs.

Central Punjab batted for 37 overs in which they lost two wickets for 90. Abid Ali made 42 and Azhar Ali was unbeaten on 29.

The sixth round of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy 2022-23 brought Balochistan their second win in the ongoing edition, thanks to Yasir Shah’s spellbinding display of leg-spin bowling which garnered him his fifth match haul of 10 wickets as title defenders Khyber Pakhtunkhwa crashed to a seven-wicket defeat.

This was Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s fourth defeat in six matches, meaning their hopes of winning the third title in a row are almost extinguished. They are at the bottom of the points table, as they have been for the majority of the season, and their other two contests have ended in draws.

Fourth-ranked Balochistan, on the other hand, closed the gap with second-placed Sindh. Eleven points separate the two sides with Central Punjab, whose all six matches have ended in draws, placed third.

Northern, meanwhile, after being rescued by Rohail Nazir’s superlative 149 are the only team to have gathered more than 100 points and are placed first with 101 points. In their match against Southern Punjab, Northern faced a real possibility of being forced to follow-on, but the former Pakistan U19 captain batted his team out of trouble.

Southern Punjab, placed fifth, had three centurions in the match. While Umer Siddiq and Salman Ali Agha made centuries in the first innings, Usman Salahuddin scored tons in both innings. Their teammate Mohammad Abbas breached the 600-first-class-wicket mark during his first five-wicket haul in the tournament.

Aamer Yamin displayed his all-round credentials for Central Punjab against Sindh, as he begun the match with a five-wicket haul and topped it up with four more scalps in the second, scoring a half-century in between.

Sindh’s Saad Khan smashed his first century of the season, making 161. His teammate, Abrar Ahmed, continued to bamboozle the batters with his mystery spin. He took four wickets in the first innings and bowled 10 overs in the second, which lasted 37.

In the seventh round, which commences Wednesday, Sindh stay at the Pindi Cricket Stadium to host Southern Punjab at the Pindi Cricket Stadium. The contest will be beamed through PCB’s YouTube channel. Balochistan travel to Abbottabad from Multan to play Northern. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Central Punjab lock horns at the LCCA Ground in Lahore.

Top performers

Experienced Test batter Azhar Ali now has the most runs for the tournament with 580 at a handsome average of 96.67 and is followed by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Sahibzada Farhan who is second on the list with 558 runs at 50.73 after his second-innings half-century against Balochistan.

Southern Punjab’s Usman Salahuddin’s twin hundreds against Northern in Abbottabad has lifted him to third spot with 545 runs at an average of 60.56.

The other two batters with more than 500 runs are Abdullah Shafique (537 at 67.13) and Hussain Talat (511 at 51.10).

There are no points for guessing the bowler with most wickets in the tournament as Abrar Ahmed’s sensational run has him 10 wickets clear of the joint second best bowlers on the list. The 24-year-old Sindh bowler has now accumulated 32 wickets at 19.06 despite playing only four matches. He has two four-fers, one of them coming in the last match, and four five-wicket hauls.

Central Punjab’s Mohammad Ali and Northern’s Mubasir Khan are locked on the second spot with 22 wickets each. Ali has recorded two five-fers, while Mubasir’s only five-wicket haul of the tournament came against Southern Punjab in the last round.

Right-arm medium fast bowlers Muhammad Umar of Sindh and Ihsanullah of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are fourth and fifth on the list with 18 and 17 scalps.

Cricket Associations Championship 2022-23

Wednesday will also mark the beginning of the seventh round of Cricket Associations Championship 2022-23. The non first-class four-day tournament sees second XI teams of the six Cricket Associations participate.

Top-ranked Central Punjab, who have won four out of six matches, will take on Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, who are third, after winning two and losing three, at the NBP Sports Complex, Karachi.

Second-placed Sindh and fifth-ranked Southern Punjab will play at UBL Sports Complex.

Bugti Stadium in Quetta will stage the match between Balochistan and Northern. Balochistan are ranked fourth and Northern and placed at the bottom.

18 matches so far and 11 of them draws.

That’s better than last year I think. Faisalabad appeared to have some terrible flat roads but other than that it has seemed mostly competitive. Pindi definitely had some good tracks.

Some draws expected since it’s only 4 days and we sometimes don’t even get 90 overs in a day

Faisalabad has always been flat in domestic games and even test matches back when it use to get regular games. All we get here in domestic cricket in last few years mediocre batsmen getting easy runs and then being exposed in test cricket. The same sort of pitches will be produced in Eng and NZ series as pakistan has no interest in improving cricketers domestically or at international level.

This is the reason we wont be winning matchss at home. I havent seen one match so far where it has spun even on last day..surely curators can produce

Most games being played on highways so no surprise.

Overrate of 12 13 per hour isnt helping. We only get about 25 26 overs each session which is really poor. The other day sindh gave a target of 300 in 45 overs instead of giving a target of 250 in 60 overs. There is no competitiveness.

Not sometime, everytime we don't get 90 overs, and most time of the time we get less than 80 Overs.
In today's play, in Abbottabad only 68.3 overs play happened, 75 in Lahore, and 78 in Rawalpindi, without any rain or delay.
This is not just today's case, everytime this happens.
No one is regulating or bothering or enforcing players to bowl atleast 85 overs per day's play.
I think only on 2-3 instances 90 Overs of days play has happened.
I guess PCB has decided that max no. Overs bowled in a day should be 80.
