What's new

On This Day: February 19, 2006 - Sarfaraz Ahmed's Pakistan beat India in Under-19 World Cup final

A little sad looking back that our stars from that game have faded away or become villains while Indians like Rohit and Jadeja have become one of the best ever or at least a lucrative crowd puller.

Question is, were our players always limited or is the gulf of quality between the two systems just too large?

How far back are you asking about?

Hetmyer, Kemo paul, A Joseph all from 2016 under-19 world cup winning team for West Indies. Mehidy Hassan who was the player of the series is doing a good job for BD.

The other new ball bowler Jamshed Ahmed was better than both Annu and Akhtar.

Its a tragedy he was treated pathetically and then left domestic cricket.

Jump from U19 to FC, and then further to international is HUGE.

Please, do NOT assume some good U19 performances to mean international class. All those bowlers were extremely mediocre.

Most good potential bowling talent gets the deserved chance.

What a match. Didn't watch it live but relived it in highlights package. Can only imagine the kind of emotions people would have felt who watched it live. Jeevay Jeevay Pakistan!

Just ignore the trolls. Some people don't want to be happy and want everyone in the world to just cry. This match was special and will remain so for years to come. It's just one of those great joys of Pakistan cricket.

The only reason the thread is bumped is to not allow people to forget that this happened. The trophy cupboard is so empty I guess.. It’s been ages and since then india and Australia won twice, Bangladesh won recently.
It just goes to show how much Pakistan has regressed and hopefully they come back strong

*India won thrice.

2008 , 2012 and 2018.

agree... the narcisist can burn in their own shells

would have been even better if Nasir Jamshed from tht team had lived to his potential. Imad and Sarfraz made it to big boys league but success got to Sarfraz'ez head.

unfortunatly the only one to make out of tht group and is still going strong is Imad

Yeah, the batch that missed out. There was some real talent in there. It had 2 captaincy materials in Imad and Sarfi. Nasir, Anwar just missed out. Both had so much great potential. What a waste..

I can remember when we were bowled out , I thought we had no chance. Wasn’t able to watch our bowling but remember checking the score and being shocked we won.

Still one of the most remarkable performances by any Pakistani team at any level.

Incredible and totally unexpected win.

I think we were playing India at senior level that day too and lost the game.
