I mean India has been our favourite whipping boy all throughout history, its not surprising that every other day is an anniversary of a phainti we may have dished out in the past.

nice little tournament I remember India beating us earlier in the tournament but we won the final. Same as the Champions Trophy ;)

I remember that tournament. I watched the whole series.

Earlier in that year Pakistan played India in a series which we ended up losing 3-2.

I wasn't quite happy when we won the kitply cup as it meant nothing. The series mattered more, i was quite angry that we ended up winning a kitply cup while we lost the series that mattered.

Also you have to give credit to the marketing.

This tri series was famous because of its name "kitply", even if you google this name the industry pics will show up, plus the pics of the Tournament aswell.

You wish you could say about WCs. Have some shame in writing such post.

You People celebrating Kitply Cup Victory

I think Younis didn't score any run before 100 in final.

Yup, was run out without facing a ball in the 1st match and was out first ball in the 2nd batch.

Was hilarious when he raised his bat after scoring his 1st run in the Final.

Nice. This was a Saturday and I wasn't that into cricket back then but I remember that this was a great birthday gift for me by team Pakistan (:

Your memory is rusty, Pakistan didn't play India in a series in 2008. What you are talking about was in 2007.

Winning any tournament or cup is a matter of pride. So whats the problem in celebrating it.

Not celebrating Kitply cup specifically but our overall record against you.... In case you forgot it's something like 75 vs 50....

the series was probably made in nov/dec of 2007

you get my point.

This!

India always have the habit of celebrating a world cup record, that they always tend to ignore the overall record.

Overall record is what matters more if you want to make comparison of wins.

So for Indians who are chest thumping all the time about World Cup wins, why does this bother them?

Along with venues in UAE and Pakistan India should also ask GOI to stop them from playing against us in the month of June :ma

I don't remember this cup at all. All I remember about 2008 is that IPL started and it was one year after 2007 when we saw the 2 world cups. And I thought I have good memory.

Happy Days - when Salman Butt was the pride of Pakistan!

Those were the days when Ind-Pak were playing as often as Ind-SL does these days. There was no novelty angle at all like we have today where every Indo-Pak game is an event.

One of the best games that Salman featured in and one we all enjoyed.

I remember this final, it was one of the first finals I saw, was streaming it too, not the best quality, I basically was able to catch the second innings, I knew it was not a big tournament but Beating India is always special. Miss those types of tri team tourneys we would have back in the day.

This was first tournament after the inaugural IPL 2008 and many key players got rested from the Indian team bcoz of the IPL fatigue ( Sachin Tendulkar , Zaheer Khan, Harbhajan) . After this tournament , Dhoni missed the next series against Sri Lanka to get rest

I guess this series was a harbinger of the future. Big names missing international tournaments due to IPL In those days some people used to make noise for missing international events. Nowadays nobody cares that Virat Kohli is chilling on some beach while a series against South Africa is underway

Yeh but we lost the 2007 series

I think it was the first final after the defeat in the T20 wc.

So there was a sense of redemption that we bet India in a final and then won our next ICC tournament too.

So those few years are remembered collectively as losing t20 wc and losing in India.

Then there are fond memories of winning a cup against India and then the WC which signalled a bit of an upturn.

Proud winners of the Kitply cup.

India wish they had this trophy to their name. Pakistan Zindabad.

I wish we had won the Asia Cup that started something like a week after Kitply Cup(it was seen as a warm up to the Asia Cup that was to take place in Pakistan. We did awfully in the bigger tournament in which we were the hosts. I think SL won the tournament where Mendis bamboozled everyone.

Pak were only able to beat the minnows and won 1 game against India. A 300 plus chase that for once we literally breezed through with something like 5 overs to spare.

2008 was the most boring year of Pak Cricket as we didn't play a single test that year something that I have always enjoyed more. Even in LOIs, we played only a handful of games.

Yeh but we lost the 2007 series

Also we didn't even make it into the finals of Asia Cup 2008 which was in Pakistan. To me this cup doesn't even matter would have been better if Pak had lost Kitply cup & then went on to win the Asia Cup.

To me it has always been about winning the tournament more then defeating the arch rival India. I would rather lose to India yet win the tournament every time. Only a Test series, Champions Trophy and WC matches versus India really excite me. All these meaningless Pepsi cup's in Dubai or Sharjah don't do anything for me at all.

That Asia Cup marked the emergence of Ajanta Mendis. He was unplayable in that tournament

I know this is an old post but the reason why India’s World Cup dominance against Pakistan is so special and remarkable is because they have a 100% winning record. The 0 wins for Pakistan is a source of massive embarrassment.

From Imran to Miandad to Wasim to Waqar to Akhtar to Misbah to Afridi etc. none of them could to anything about it. Pakistan couldn’t even catch India on an off-day.

India always found a way to hold their nerves in the most highly anticipated and watched match of the World Cups and you cannot compare this with a 70-50 overall record which is impressive but not remotely as impressive as not letting the opposition team win a single match.

Obviously this streak has lost a lot of relevance after Pakistan’s win in the 2021 T20 WC, but the original ODI World Cup streak still stands.

It won’t feel the same until Pakistan beats India in the ODI World Cup because the T20 World Cup streak doesn’t have any proper legacy unlike the 1992, 1996, 1999, 2003, 2011, 2015 and 2019 World Cups.

A big day for Pakistan cricket and egg on the faces of India.

They can exclude us from IPL, prevent us from hosting tournaments, but they will never be able to say that they won the Kitply Cup in 2008.

Kiptly cup, Mickey Mouse cup, yeh hi choti choti khushiyan hain hamari ab.

Damn these were the times when I was actually bored of playing Pakistan so much.

Also, Pak team was quite boring to watch barring Afridi.
