ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Imran Khan on Monday lamented Pakistani people's lack of patience, saying "only 13 months have passed [since coming to power] and people keep asking 'where is Naya Pakistan?'".

Speaking at the inauguration of the first "Ehsaas Saylani Langar" here at Peshawar Mor in the federal capital's Sector G-9, PM Imran stressed that change always came slowly.

The prime minister said the current system's biggest flaw was that it allowed the rich to become richer and the poor to get poorer. He added that he was determined to collect tax from the country's affluent and spend that money on the destitute folks' welfare to bring improvement in their lives.

The Langar was set up as a joint collaboration between the government's Ehsaas Programme and Saylani Welfare International Trust, which would provide free-of-cost meals thrice-a-day to the needy.

PM Imran said some people were becoming impatient with the government and questioning the existence of the 'Naya Pakistan' after just a year and a half.

"They must know that wrong practices of 70 years take time to phase out. But I assure you, this country will overcome tough times and witness a new dawn of progress and prosperity," he said.

PM Imran said steps were afoot — with the government's vision of making Pakistan a welfare state — to provide poor basic necessities of life, including food and shelter.

"Even if a country faces financial constraints but pursues the path of Allah Almighty to care for its deserving people, it will ultimately achieve success," he said.

The premier mentioned that the government had launched several welfare schemes for improvement of healthcare, police system, and women-centric issues, with a basic objective to facilitate common people.

The PM lauded Ehsaas Programme Chairperson Dr Sania Nishtar for effectively carrying out the country's largest socio-economic welfare project with multiple dimensions.

During meal time at the Langarhhana, PM Imran stood in a queue behind two labourers and put food in his plate on his turn. He shared lunch with the poor people who were already gathered there for a free meal at the venue.

Earlier, Dr Nishtar said the Langar project was in line with the vision of PM Imran, who wished for no one in his country to sleep on an empty stomach and under open sky.

The Ehsaas Programme chair noted that by next year, some 112 Langars would be opened in collaboration with Saylani Welfare International Trust, where the needy would be provided quality meals in a dignified manner.

In this regard, Saylani Welfare Trust founder Bashir Farooqi said Pakistan was blessed to have Imran Khan as the prime minister for he had a firm intention to make the country a welfare state that took care of poor, homeless, and abandoned people.

Farooqi mentioned that the Langar near Peshawar Mor was set up in only 10 days and that Saylani Welfare Trust was confident of achieving their target of 112 similar set-ups in the shortest period of time, with a greater objective of establishing a total of 1,200 later.

Besides providing free meals, the Langar also offers a 120-bed accommodation for the needy and travelers.

Very Modi-esque statements , thats why people need to stop giving into Naya, Great again etc these coined words don’t matter.

Policy and actions matter.

Also the below is absolute PR which I don’t know how people give into (even in India they do).

“During meal time at the Langarhhana, PM Imran stood in a queue behind two labourers and put food in his plate on his turn”

Its alright, the un speech gave you another year of freedom from the wolves in the media

Straight out of the Dhoni playbook - "Watch Captain Cool carry debutante Khalil Ahmed's kit through the airport" or "MS walks across to shake hands with his youngest fan!".

Prior to the elections IK was on about the difference he'll make in the first six months or something. Where is it now?

Sounds like a man under pressure who knows he has been a failure and is desperately trying to savage some goodwill. It appears that the Kashmir deflection is running out of steam as well.

It is not about 13 months. The public will be patient for longer than that if they see a light at the end of the tunnel and if they sense that he is steering the country in the right direction.

However, that is not the case because he had no idea what he is doing. The inexperience and incompetence of his team along with the army of tried and tested lotas have resulted in a chaotic, haphazard government that is failing to settle on a mandate and continues to experiment.

Furthermore, he should not forget that his party have achieved zilch after 6 years of rule in KP.

All the education and health reforms have failed, infrastructure has not improved - Peshawar city floods when it rains and the BRT project is a complete disastrous that has ruined Peshawar, and doctors are on strike because of the goof-ups and the behavior of his health minister.

However, the biggest change in the last 12 months is that he has started to lose the support of the poor people. They were his strength previously because the common man identified with him.

They saw a simple man with a humble lifestyle who wanted to make things better for them, but their impression and perception of him have completely changed today.

I took a taxi today (regular one, not Careem) and the driver told me that before the establishment of Imran Khan’s Madina Riyasat, he was able to afford three meals a day for only 200-250 rupees since he lived in the city on his own and his family was still in the village.

However, now it costs him over 500 because of Imran Khan’s Mehangai Scheme called “sub ko rulaonga”.

While the rich are getting amnesty schemes, and his corrupt buddy’s (Jahangir Tareen) son is buying PSL teams with the black money of his crook (disqualified by Supreme Court for being dishonest) father, the poor people are not even able to afford three meals a day.

The poor people are cussing him today and they do not care about his fake morality speeches about Kashmir in the UN and neither do they care about the “it has only been 11 months and things will get better” justification.

The only thing they care about is that for some reason, life for them is harder in the Madinah Riyasat of honest Niazi than during the corrupt regime of Nawaz.

This what the overseas PTI supporters and the ones living in Pakistan in their rich bubble failed to understand. They see hashtags on social media and people getting excited and emotional over his Kashmir rants in the UN, and they assume that the public is happy with him and he has united the nation.

That is simply not true, because the public is extremely disappointed with his performance. Again, public is not the rich trolls on social media; it is the common man on the street - the taxi driver, the fruit-seller, the security guard, the gardener etc. etc. who make up the majority of our population, and these people have lost faith in him.

It is their vote that holds the real power along with the backing of the military establishment, who will not be on his side for long because a sinking economy is dangerous to their self-interests as well.

As things stand, there is little chance of this Naya Pakistan drama extending beyond its tenure. The public is disillusioned with the performance so far and Imran Khan and his team of hacks have to act swiftly to win popular vote again.

They have to find a way to keep the prices down and encourage business, because as things stand, they are making life hell for the poor people. Considering their spectacular incompetence, there is little of chance that they will turn things around.

Imran Khan is setting himself up for a reality check - he is deluded himself into thinking that he still has the popular support. He arranges concerts in the U.S. that are attended by American PTI trolls, and he thinks he is still the representative of the masses.

Unfortunately for him, the masses in Pakistan - who hold the power over his future - are afraid that pretty soon the whole country will be a big BRT on his watch.

Ultimately, this is what Imran Khan deserves for two critical mistakes - (1) he didn’t focus enough on KP during 2013-2018. He let that PPP crook Pervez Khattak have a free reign with little accountability, while he kept staging long marches along with his buddy Tahir-ul-Qadri.

He was already obsessing over toppling Nawaz and becoming the PM instead of respecting the vote of KP and focusing on the performance of his party in the province.

(2) he took a U-turn on his stance on electables. His desperation and greed for power grew so immense that he was willing to flush his manifesto and everything his party stood for down the drain for the vote banks of tried and tested crooks and frauds.

These people now hold important positions in his government. Not only are they incompetent, they are also uninterested in working for the people.

Imran Khan has no one but himself to blame for losing the trust and support of the common man.

Your godfathers left the country bankrupt! What was he meant to do?

They were your Godfathers too. He knew the situation when making those promises of making Pak the next New York. Now is the time to fulfil those promises.

This not a reply to his question. We all know Zardari and Nawaz ruined the economy and Imran also knew that. If he really said he will fix the economy in first six months then he has failed to deliver. He shouldn't have made any big promises but just doing his work and tell the People let them Complete 5 years and then see results.

And remember the majority here supports him, so stop labelling everyone as noonis or jyalas. That is the biggest problem in Pakistan. Whenever you used to to critisize Zardari or Nawaz you were called Junooni.

Everyone should be realistic. Let's pray for the country and give Imran and co full 5 years, but again no need to give big promises.

Based on where PML N left Pakistan IK has done a terrific job so far. The first two three years were going be painful for Pakistan, as PTI are doing reforms which should have been done decades ago. As long as the economy picks up by year 4 and 5 of his term, PTI should win again in 2023.

IK has no doubt good intentions for Pakistan's welfare but his team is full of incompetent people and he had no governance plan ready before election. So he shouldn't have promised moon to citizens before election.

A minister is judged by his work not by his takrirs or intentions.

Thing is Naya Pakistan was supposed to be made by Purana PTI. Naya PTI is basically purana PML-N, PML-Q, PPP etc. This is what troubles people more than the 13 months.

The only ministers who have performed well so far are from Purana PTI - Hammad Azhar and Murad Saeed. Rest are all from Naya PTI who are same old useless people.
