I hurt myself today
To see if I still feel
I focus on the pain
The only thing that's real

The needle tears a hole
The old familiar sting
Try to kill it all away
But I remember everything.

I don't get why you'd post lyrics from a Johnny Cash song and turn into a new thread. What's the point of all of this?

It is if you focus only on that.

From a movie Into the Wild apparently made on a real story, something the character carves in before dying after living in the wild.

Happiness is only real when shared.

We're free to engage in discussion over the philosophical lyric in Cash's song as much as we can break down Sehwag's recent tweets

I suppose you're right but wouldn't you say that it is more or less subjective things like happiness, they tend to vary among people and there are also individuals who spend their entire days suffering. But Pain on the other hand is the only thing that is real in that it is undisputed, what do you think bro

I feel I have been sheltered from physical pain, things like my parents go through or have gone through because of their somewhat tougher childhood/events but always felt they never dwelt into it and try to look on future.

Imo without any experience of physical pain,my opinion would be that physical pain heals with time if we are ready to work around, examples being many people handicapped due to accidents.

The spiritual pain,or the emotional one is something most of us can't get around to unless we feel joy again, imo pain emotionally and physically are not always constant with respect to people similar to how joy doesn't affect everyone the same way.

There is no constant or linear value on pain upon all individuals,it will always through their lens and body.

I have had constant admiration for people that take it up and move on,something i often wonder I won't be able to do.

True, physical pain can heal; in that lyric I think the physical pain being implied with the needle was a metaphor for the psychological pain/scarring over a lifetime. And at times the physical and psychological element can combine as well to emphasise the suffering of an individual.

But you're right there in a sense, while physical pain is real; the psychological scarring varies depending on an individuals circumstances.

And respect to your parents, generally folk from the subcontinent are very strong mentally given all the hurdles they have to overcome. You see many people who go on and get by but never find true happiness given their psychological scarring, bit like Logan :))

Being a Pakistan cricket fan is the REAL pain these days bro. Downright depressing to look at the scorecard. :afaq

BD started as if they were going to get 450 :)) and at one point looked very likely lmao

I have never understood self-harm, though I have seen it plenty of times. For example, a youth worker I knew had blade scars on her arms. To begin with I though they were defensive cuts, but they went the wrong way, down her arms. She told me that when she was unhappy she would cut herself because she felt she should be punished.

There is no pain. Nothing may be real . The only way to find out is to die and see what happens afterwards, but that shouldn't mean you bail out on life and miss all the goodies.

Pain like many things can bring the best of you or the worst out of you.

The key is to understand why the pain is there.

Physical pain is usually temporary and quick unless you are in a prison camp like G-Bay. Mental pain could last for years or could never end. This is where spiriatulity is the remedy.

Pain is in my opinion the furthest thing (probably #2 to fear) from real. It's a mental mechanism to deal with certain stimuli. Fear and pain are interrelated and if you can divorce yourself from fear you're not likely to 'feel' pain in the same ways people who are mentally weak feel pain.

Felt loads of it today, thanks to tailbone infection with fever. I could do nothing about it in fast.
Its a mechanism of body to let you know that something's wrong. Suppressing pain can sometimes result in fatal cond
