What's new

Pakistan (232/6) beat England (201 all out) by 31 runs in a thrilling encounter at Trent Bridge

Dismissed. Thought that was gone for a Six. Ball following Shadab everywhere..

Shadab has got clobbered to high heaven but his wickets and fielding have been a big part of this win.

Good chase. But not good enough. England bowling has been atrocious to say the lease.

Good length slower balls have been pretty poorly used by Pak through the last ODI and even today. Slower balls were half trackers rather than good lengths. Otherwise that can be handy to mix with pace balls against Eng batsmen

Rauf has stepped up to be fair, these slower balls were just what was needed. Good to see some brains for a change.

Shadab has a very high ceiling in terms of skill set and where he can get too.
I hope he works hard in all three disciplines and makes it to the very top

That Dismissal of Roy was very crucial at that stage. Livingstone kept fighting but he didn't have enough support at the other end.

Yeah he's sitting somewhere contorting his brain trying to figure out a way to twist it. He has this weird obsession with hating on him. Shadab was brilliant in the field today.

And another brilliant catch on the boundary.

Dont think Pak can keep repeating the same effort with the bat. Bowling was decent considering the ground and conditions but, I think they need to better that

When Shadab came to bowl, he was hit for two sixes at first to balls..great comeback from that stage.

Yup he has enough skills to work upon, but he ain't no teenager anymore and time will soon start running out.

Say what you will about Shadab but the guy is an unreal fielder. One of the very best in the world.

England scored 120 in first ten overs but only managed 80 in last ten overs. Reverse of what Pakistan did.

Sohaib Maqsood gets a pat on the back from me as well. His 19(6) was incredibly important as he ensured that the dismissal of Rizwan didn't stall the momentum.

Great win. Great game. One of the best T20 internationals I've seen. Good to see Pakistan finally turn up in this series against a full strength side.

Top match and became a box office only because Pak tried to match fire with fire

Also that 26 in 9 from Fakhar. Even Hafeez provided a good cameo.

Congratulations 🥳

Catches win matches. Fielding was top level today.

One of the greatest victories in recent times.

Well Done boys. Love from Kashmir ❤️

Leg spinners tend to peak a little later anyway but I do hope he gets to play some first class cricket.
That's the only way he'll improve

Amazing game everyone bowled really well. Shadab was expensive but took crucial wickets and catches

Pakistan played out their skin here. You will not find lower order hitting coming off successfully from Pakistan all the time, that was the decisive factor in this match.

Am not happy with the Pakistani bowlers, the economy rates are too high and unacceptable.

Another typical England v Pakistan match - competitive, thrilling and entertaining.

What an amazing game! I still can't believe how our batting clicked so well, with the openers setting a great platform and then everyone chipping in with quickfire cameos.

The English bowlers also went for plenty, the game was over from the moment they lost the first 3 wickets.

A run feast

A hard-fought win in the end despite the big total

Struggled against England's B or C team but managed to beat their full strength side tonight.

Super knock by Livingstone, just got out at the wrong time for England. Well-played Babar and Rizwan

Unpredictability and Pakistan go hand in hand!

But as they say All is well that ends well!

Bowling needs improvement imo. not impressed. Shaheen for instance needs to learn to come round the wicket to (right-handed batsmen) cramp the batsman like Akram used to do

Looking at the size of the ground, even 250 was achievable. Trent Bridge is high scoring venue in England.

Amidst all the carnage from both sides, young Hasnain has bowled beautifully. Main reason why England fell off target.

Agreed, great little cameo. All he needed was a little more elevation on that last shot and it would have been another six.

I agree. In terms of quality, this is one of the better display of all-round show from Pakistan. They were clearly desperate for the win and gave their 'A' performance.

That was England’s full batting line up minus Butler and Stokes.

Butler has been a Thorne in our path but we have dealt with Stokes in the past. Very good performance by our bowlers today

I think we need to applaud just for the effort players put in after a highly mentally crushing ODI loss.

Still not sold on Rizwan/Babar combo. On a batting track with short boundaries, Rizwan especially was clueless in first 8 overs, struggling against pace. Westbound remember that our middle or lower order is not capable of finishing this strong on consistent basis. Hence the openers must give a flying start. I think Maqsood should open with Babar with Rizwan at 1 down followed by Hafeez, Azam Khan, Shadab, Imad, Hassan , Shaheen, rauf/qadir, and husnain. Yes Fakhar played well today but on batting pitches we need an extra bowler not batsman.

In absence of Hassan Ali , Shadab and Rauf stood up to provide so much energy in the field. I still feel shadab should just focus on bowling now. He has all the ingredients but need experience in first class.

On contrary, I am very happy with the bowling effort.
It was a flat track with short boundaries. Just imagine if Pakistani batsmen can score 200 plus on a pitch then it has to be a batting paradise.

As Shaheen told in interview , it was the right strategy to go for Wickets. And to defend this with only 5 bowlers is more special.

There were some tactical mistakes by Babar like Imad should not have bowled 2nd over in pp. But overall he used just 5 bowlers available very well.

Glad that the biggest threat and thorn in our eyes, butler did not play. He would have crushed this chase

Pakistan are off and running on their tour of England, taking out the first T20I by 31 runs despite a thrilling century from Liam Livingstone.

Livingstone blasted 103 off 43 balls, posting the third-highest score by a T20I batter at No.5.

His ton came up in just 42 deliveries – making it the quickest by an England batter – and featured six fours and nine sixes, but England were still bowled out for 201 chasing Pakistan’s total of 232/6.

Sent out to bat first, Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan putting up a 150-run opening-stand in less than 15 overs that proved the bedrock of Pakistan’s biggest ever total in T20I cricket.

Held to just 11 runs across the first two overs, the tourists showed signs of accelerating in the third over as Azam hit David Willey (1/39) for three consecutive fours in a 16-run over. However, by the end of the Powerplay Pakistan were only 49/1 and at the halfway stage in their innings 80/0. It was in the second 10 overs that the carnage began.

Azam brought up his fifty in just 35 balls in an 11th over that also saw Rizwan pick up two boundaries off Livingstone (0/24) and in the 12th both men deposited Matt Parkinson (0/47) for sixes. The leg-spinner was hit for another 18 runs in his next over, and seamer Lewis Gregory was dealt similar treatment in the 15th over as he went for 16 runs, while accounting for Rizwan for 63.

Sohaib Maqsood only hung around for seven deliveries but made them count, helping himself to 19 runs with two sixes and a four before falling to Tom Curran (2/47) in the 16th. Azam’s fall for 85 to Willey in the 17th did little to slow the run-scoring, with Mohammad Hafeez smashing 24 off 10 and Fakhar Zaman 26 off eight before falling in the 19th and 20th overs respectively.

Pakistan’s defence of 232 started on the right foot when Shaheen Afridi (3/30) took a smart diving catch off his own bowling to remove Dawid Malan (1) in the second over. Jason Roy wasted little time getting the chase back on track, hitting three sixes off Imad Wasim (1/46) in the third over, only for England to be dealt successive blows when Afridi removed Jonny Bairstow (11) in the fourth and Mohammad Hasnain (1/28) dismissed Moeen Ali (1) in the fifth.

By the ninth over, Livingstone had raced to his half-century in just 17 deliveries – the fastest by an England batter in a men’s T20I – with 30 of those runs coming in sixes. With the right-hander in an imperious mood, the hosts had flown past the 100-run-mark in less than nine overs.

However, while Livingstone was seeing them well, he lacked company, with Morgan (16) and Gregory (10) both unable to keep pace.

Fittingly Livingstone raised his century with a six in the 17th over but when he fell on the very next delivery, England’s hopes looked slim and so it proved.

Despite a 16-run cameo from Willey, Pakistan held their nerve to see out the match from there.

The two teams next meet on Sunday.

What a clinical performance by Pakistan after the disastrous odi series!

Reminded me of WC19 when they got pummeled by West Indies but went onto beat England the very next game.

Much needed win for Pakistan and a good game of cricket overall. Here’s hoping for another cracker of a game tomorrow. Looking ahead I think this is the template Pakistan needs to carry over to their ODI batting. Inevitably there will be teething problems and it might take a few years to pay off but no pain no gain. The game has well and truly moved on and it’s not going to wait for anybody.

On another note though looking at all the crowds during the Euro and the cricket last few weeks man can’t help but feel a bit concerned about what might be on the horizon. People appear to be way too complacent far too early and kind of reminds me of what happened in India not too long ago before things completely spiralled out of control. Hope that doesn’t happen but only time will tell I suppose.

50% of population has been vaccinated in uk, you need proof of vaccine or negative test to gain entry into the stadium. I thoroughly enjoyed the game yesterday the atmosphere was amazing the crowd was buzzing Dan’s most important Pakistan won. COVID is here to stay so unfortunately people just have to make whatever adjustments they feel are unnecessary but life goes on.

The Sohaib Maqsood-Haris Rauf catch turned snuggle has to be the image of the year.

Rauf absolutely WWE-style speared him if you watch the replay back :))

Well still early days though and there are a lot of things we don't really know about the variants and mutations going forward. I certainly hope that things don't get out of hand but seeing all these mass gatherings all over especially during the Euros can't help but get that jumping the gun feeling.

How does England keep producing this amount of talent?

Livingstone is not even 1st choice. They have Banton too. Phil Salt doesn't get a shoo in the T20 team. Probably many more in the county cricket of the similar kind.

If he was Pakistani, some coach would have called him a tulleybaaz and thrown him out when he was 12, and he would be playing tape-ball tourneys.

Direct answer to the question. It's equally applicable to India for the matter. Sub-continent teams are getting left behind.

England have learnt they need to encourage hitting and keep backing guys to play like that.

Catches win matches!

Just saw the highlights

Good decision to drop Hassan Ali. In the context of a very high scoring game Hasnain’s figures very good (4 overs 28 runs and one wicket). Shaheen bowled well too

Shadab, normally very economical went for 52 runs in his 4 overs but his three wickets were crucial to the outcome of the game + took a great catch

Magnificent, clean hitting, both sides. One of the best T20s in recent memory.

What I noticed was , all the skiers were taken with precision, some right on the ropes! Catches win matches , and i remember the days of Wasim, Waqar, when 90% of these chances would have been grassed. Top stuff. The last catch of Willey, i think, was seriously good. Bhae wah! Maza aa gaya!

Husnain should be playing ahead of Rauf in my opinion in odis and t20s
