Pakistan (264/8) secure a two-wicket victory in a nail-biting encounter in the series opener against South Africa (263)

Why to have a such sluggish pitch instead of batting pitch in odis .bounce is quite low too.am not sure about smog in the night.it may effect a lot.Really have to feel for sena players in sub continent.

Pakistan should have batted first here..may be they are expecting dew later otherwise this pitch looks a bat first pitch. They made a mistake they should have played Faisal Akram who is the superior bowler to Abrar imo potential wise. Pakistan should invest and groom Faisal Akram he can be a very good bowler. He can actually spin the ball and have varieties unlike Sufiyan who is only a darter. Hasan Nawaz is another one who is being wasted by this team management. They need to find the talent and back then fully like what they did with Saim Ayoub..

Feels like I’m watching cricket in the mid-90s again. Reminds me of my childhood days when I along with my cousins used to watch Pakistan team matches on PTV with those weak, flickering signals. We’d climb up to the roof to adjust the antenna just to catch a clearer picture and somehow the signal always got better only at night or on cloudy days. The crowd sitting on concrete steps without proper chairs added to that raw old school cricket charm. Pure nostalgia

I was wondering if it was because of the quality of broadcast or not.

Will it create visibility issues while chasing ?
Not sure what the smog situation in Faisalabad is. From what I've heard it's pretty bad. In Lahore you don't have visibility issues during October. By November-December that starts happening late night/early morning

Pakistan, no doubt, is still stuck in the 1990s while all other ICC members have moved ahead. The country remains far behind in cricket infrastructure and development despite having strong financial resources. Why don’t they invest in stadiums and other cricketing facilities when the funds are available?

Gaddafi Stadium, which is Pakistan’s premier venue, is still waiting for a roof cover over the spectator stands — something that should have been completed long ago. With the summer season just a few months away, how can anyone be expected to sit comfortably in such extreme heat?

It’s the same repetitive cycle that’s been going on for a long time — appoint a new captain, the new captain and team combination show a promising start in meaningless matches, but then collapse miserably when it actually matters. It’s the same story every time.

GSL won't have the roof anytime soon.

They are trying to upgrade Karachi and then build a system in Islamabad.

The stadium is ugly and the smog is just adding a terrible look to the entire spectacle. The lights will even make it worse as they are old lights & I fully expect a blackout during the match when the lights will fail.

This has been the flattest pitch on the planet since the 70s.

No wonder Dennis Lillee called it a "graveyard for bowlers".

Well done to Shaheen for only conceding 17 runs in his first 4 overs but I suspect he'll go for plenty in his next 2 spells.

Abrar is over rated. Pakistan should had been brave and played Faisal Akram. When you have Mohd Nawaz and Saim in the team what was the point giving Agha 3 overs who was bowling poorly even in his first over. I am sure Pakistan have enough batsmen with Hasan Nawaz batting so low, they should had played Mohd Wasim as the pacer needs support on this pitch.

There can only be two reasons for batting first on this wicket. Either because of dew or because the expectation is for the pitch to get slower and slower, making it difficult to play the spinners whilst chasing.

Which self respecting cricketing nation would make shaheen captain.. once upon a time teams use to send there c teams to Bangladesh & Zimbabwe now add pak to that list. Funny thing is they will still beat pak.

I'm looking at the records of these South African middle order batsmen and they look mediocre.

Bro the real reason is they are too scared to bat according to the modern requirements and at a proper required pace to set an above par total.

They’d rather try to chase a below par total than actually set an above par one.

This is the effect of constant RizBar fans+journalists pressure. They created doubts in the management and coaches to even push hard

Will need a big partnership from RizBabar today. One of them vintage ones
I cant remember any big combinations from them in ODI.

I can remember RIzwan and Agha played well in CT against South Africa. It may be amongst the best by a Pakistani duo in an ICC tournament. Hopefully some one can produce the goods like they did then.

If Rizwan thinks Shaheen is having difficulty in captaining then I don't think it would be wrong for him to take over mid game.
Now Rizbar fans are advocating open rebellion and infighting in the team. And this is the very first ODI match Shaheen is captaining and they already want a rebellion.

If anyone asks why such fans are harmful for a team and why other normal fans hate them.

@Rana

Unfortunately these people need the Asim Munir danda treatment.

I am not a blind supporter of any Pak player but why the focus is always on Babar and Rizwan.

What about others in the team? Saim, Hasan Nawaz and Agha. They share equal responsibility as batters. They are not just there to make up numbers! What has Saim’s performance been in ODis since his comeback? What have Agha, Saim (apart from that one god knock in 2nd T20I in Lahore) and Hasan Nawaz done during the past 15-20 T20Is (not a small sample size)? Yet not a word on their pathetic performance!.

When you criticise certain players while conveniently ignoring the performances of your favourites (you are guilty of the same bias as some Riz-Bar supporters), it only smacks of hypocrisy and double standards

As an Indian would say ‘itna bhed bhao kyon bhai?’

Or

As ‘dhagga’ Sohail Waraich would say, ‘kya yeh khula tazaad nahin?’

Smog looks like it's getting worse.

Maybe worth shifting remaining matches to Karachi.
We are lucky that even though South Africa is a SENA country they are mainly non white so Pak can get away with these conditions without much fuss from them.

Shocking place for cricket and I say this as a Faisalabadi who was delighted to see a match being played.
