In lieu of recent cricket context, this game is equally important like the Test starting 23 hours later!!! In recent days, the gap between India- Pakistan cricket is so wide that we don’t even expect a contest apart from odd days. But, this PAK E team is far, far ahead of IND E - I expect them to crash IND E, but somehow if they lose this game today, it’ll keep a scar in the mind of next gen.

I always say that the seed of PAK’s dominance over India in 1990s was planted in 1987 tour, when an inexperienced underdog PAK team beat India in Test & ODI series in India (ODI series was almost clean sweep). India E team can do something similar tonight - if they manage to beat a PAK E team of whom, at least 10-12 players will represent PAK in next decade; it’ll keep giving dividends for a decade in every game.

It should be played on an absolute belter, means overall better team has little excuse not to cash in - I would have batted first if I were PAK E captain and bat India E out of the game in first half. There is no dew factor, therefore what PAK E needs is only to avoid 34/3 sort of start on a 9am start.

Batting first is the right call - on a good wicket and normal conditions, if the gap is too wide, only way underdog can win a big game is put runs and get opponents off guard on the day. On top of that, PAK batting is all way same - even in this tournament against much inferior opponents, I saw them depending on release shots (4........2...4...) to score runs; which shouldn’t give much confidence while chasing in pressure games. You can bring an Azad Maidan club, but if any Indian team can survive the early storm - they’ll put some score on the board, which will need some chasing.

Umair’s FC stats are excellent for a youngster, but List A record is poor, and here he is playing too slow for opener - I think, his career plan should be fixed at becoming PAK Test opener for a decade and not to bother for LO much. Like Taufique Umar, he’ll loose both ends, trying to over stress his limit.

I think, Badar bowled 10 overs in last game and Khusdil is bowling well in this tournament, which has promoted PAK E think tank to drop Ahmad, but it’s foolish. Previous games were on sluggish tracks and against far inferior batting unit - this is different ball game. Part-timers work well as a surprise element- as sixth bowler; if any side selects a combination that suggests at toss that 10 overs will be bowled by part-timers, it often back fires. Khusdil is probably better than part timer though and has a great potential in LO cricket as all rounder.
