What's new

Pakistan [274/7] defeat South Africa [273/6] by 3 wickets in 1st ODI last-ball thriller

Proper partnership.

When Imam was struggling, Babar took the lead. Now Imam is settled and much more fluent with the bat.

Just because 2 teams are at the same level and are playing competitive cricket doesn’t mean it’s high standards.

This is very old school cricket and no this isn’t a great contest between bat and ball, that would be reserved for something like the Ind vs Aus series we saw, let’s stop using that phrase loosely whenever there is a 250 run chase game between less sides.
I agree that SA have not played well, but Pakistan are doing well.

You can check the scores from the last time India toured: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indian_cricket_team_in_South_Africa_in_2017–18

Fact is that African grounds are for better viewing than the crap in the Ind v Eng recent series.

Pakistan are very much capable of scoring large totals as they showed in 2019.

And they are cakewalking this supbar total against a good African bowling attack.

Still a lot of work to be done. If Haider Ali was playing instead of Asif Ali I'd feel more assured.

This is pathetic from Imam his strike rate is now better than Babar’s but it’s only because he keeps taking the strike against SA’s lesser bowlers and quickly gets to the other end when their main bowlers are on. Really devious type of batting this.

He's tonking Lungi Ngidi for goodness's sake, the man's bowling average is 21.50 in ODIs, not a lesser bowler by any means. It looks like it's a low target where you don't have to hammer every ball, just maintain good SR and put the bad balls away.

Haider played some brutal knocks in this year’s PSL. I think Asif’s hammering of Pak bowlers during the warm up put it in his favour

Pakistan's highest successful ODI chase vs South Africa away is 267 in Port Elizabeth in 2019.

Babar and Imam produced an important partnership in that game too.

Rabada treated like a club bowler by Babar in this over

I think Haider should play in place of Fakhar at the top of the innings.
Lol u were questioning me when I said Pakistan’s elite top order has the advantage over mediocre Africa in the pre match thread

Beautiful batting ...one of the most aesthetically pleasing knocks I've seen

Irrespective of the result, really heartening to see two developing batsmen who have quite a few years in them with such a smooth, almost chance less and calculated partnership.

Babar toying with Rabada. He seems to be in the zone right now. Could easily get 3 100s in 3 games.

If I remember correctly you were saying that Pak will beat SA 3-0 & I said the same Elite Team lost to Zimbabwe at home.

I must say this has been beautiful batting by Babar. Superb timing, placement, the ease with which he has played the shots, beautiful.

Babar is truly the most talented batsman in the world when it comes to facing fast bowling.

3 overs ago imam had almost caught up to babars score.

Babars gone into over drive.

Thats just class. If there is one thing I would want anyone who doesnt know about cricket will be to watch Babar bat.

I like the way South Africans like Mickey and these commentators pronounce Babar's name.

"Baba Azum" :))

Oh but Babar only played one winning or impactful inning all his life according to some fans.

Something clearly wrong with SA. There is literally 0 life right now in the field. This isn't a classical SA team. But to go down like this is unacceptable.

I always want this guy Imam in the playing eleven as opener both in ODI and tests. He brings the much needed stability in the top order. Very calm ,composed

Will be just the second batsmen in history to score a hatrick of centuries twice in their odi careers if he scores a 100 today and in the next game.

Love it. Babar schooling these mercenaries before they run off to India to pick up their rupees

On the other hand, you need to have watched a bit of cricket to appreciate how good Babar is. If the first batsman you ever watch is Babar you might think it's too easy.

I prefer this one. I think he has dominated this innings.

That was a must win game....and he came in at a crunch situation literally took the game away singlehandedly.....versus a threatening Bond ..and Ferguson .....plus Santaner on a turning track

He looks in good form. I think if you ask him could he bat all day, he would say yes.

Imam has qualities which normally Pak batsman dont have. Thats is being a clutch player and converting 50's into 100. In 2018-19 he was even ahead of Bobby in this regard

Hasan123 all their big name players are going to IPL after the 2nd ODI. They probably dont want to rev it up thay extra 10% in case they get an injury n miss it.

Masterclass from babar no answers from sa bowlers

Shamsi not having much effect. Good thinking to call up Faisal Akram to the pre-tour camp, some preparation and opposition planning never hurts.

I was sure Pakistan would win but damn.... this is a thrashing for poor Saffers.

93 needed from 19 overs. Should be cake walk from here.

I don't think it's that. There body language looks dreadful.

They’re a force, they’ll be back. Just need to get Boucher out and hire a proper coach.
