Should be another chance for Pak A guys to show us their talent but England A will be a tough one

Guys, watch out for ali shafiq he is very tall fast bowler. Inswing bowler who has pace of 145-150kph. Deadly bowler.

Any details on Ali Shafiq - height, pace, bowling skills? His FC record is like from 1818 .....

Not sure why Shaheen Afrid is playing in this game as he was not in the 13 member squad announced yesterday

From the PCB

Team management decided to give exposure to shaheen and secondly he is not in playing X1. He will play the match and then join the team again before 2 test

Jason Roy 58*(68) 8x4s 2x6s.

Decent height around 6 I guess, pace is around 132-140 kph (When I last saw, might hqve improved) but his strength is his lines and lengths and accuracy with consistently bowling around off stump. Not a big swinger but has the ability to seam the bowl both ways.

Decent young bowler but he is in some big competition with emerging youngsters and already eatablished bowlers.

If there is anyone who watched the match, please share players' performance and feedback.

Can someone with contacts ie Saj provide clarification in regards to Mohammed Irfan?

Scorecards name him as M. Irfan but journalists on twitter are referring him as Mohammad Jailer?

It is Mohammed Irfan the SLAO. Jailer/jailor is nickname (don't ask why). They are using his nickname to distinguish him from all the other M Irfan's.

Billings The Main Man On Day One For The Lions

ECB NEWSROOM - Nov 18, 2018 15:25 GMT

unnamed.jpg

England Lions captain Sam Billings made 74 on day one of the 'Test' versus Pakistan A as his side reached 240 before Mark Wood and Jamie Overton took a wicket apiece to reduce the hosts to 33-2 at the close.

Billings won the toss and chose to bat in Abu Dhabi. The Middlesex duo of Nick Gubbins and Max Holden opened up for the Lions, as part of a batting line-up with no shortage of attacking talent.

Also on display was young Pakistan seamer Shaheen Afridi - fresh from making waves in white-ball cricket at international level - and he was soon in on the action, dismissing Holden.

Gubbins (20), Ollie Pope (0) and Joe Clarke (0) fell to leave the score on 58-4 before Jason Roy (59) and Billings put on 51 for the fifth wicket.

Both Roy and Billings are keen to prove their red-ball credentials on this tour and this represented a strong start for the pair of them.

Billings continued in the company of Dom Bess (42) and he would remain unbeaten, with 22 from Mark Wood helping the Lions to 240.

Pakistan will resume on 33-2 at 10am local time tomorrow, 6am GMT.

very odd, but I guess it was convenient

The England team is for up and coming players- PK have the likes of Khurram Manzoor, Even Shan Masood is approaching 30.

Ali Shafiq 6’1, bowls around 140, can swing the ball both ways.

Hopefully he turns out to be a good prospect, from the same area as Mohammad Abbas

England Lions have a strong bowling attack. J Overton and Porter are future England prospects while Wood and Bess have Test caps.

This will expose the duds in our batting lineup.

This is a much stronger England Lions side compared to NZ A. Performances here will matter. Let’s see how Usman and Saud perform here. Not really interested in likes of Shan, Abid, and Khurram.

Ehsan Adil is not intl. quality. Cannot bowl with a duke ball. It’s surprising how he was picked over Taj Wali.

What's the point of playing Khuarram manzoor?

If you donot reward a regular first class top scorer with a spot on national team, you can atleast try him on A team. Whats the point of scoring on first class then?

A team should for those cricketers that haven't much international matches so that it can be a good learnng curve.
KM has played 18 test matches with an average of 28. Tied and test failure shouldn't be given a chance in A team

Agree that players who have been given at least two full outings at intl. level should not be given chances at A team level. Players like Ahmed Shehzad, Umar Akmal, Shan Masood, and Khurram Manzoor should not be included in A team outings.

Really hope all four mohd irfan get selected for some game . Would actually be a very decent and diverse bowling line up.

Saud Shakeel and Usman Salahuddin fail. No excuse today for Saud as he had ample time.

Agree with your point but KM played his last test during 2013. In 5 years, lot of things may change. Most importantly Pakistan have struggled to find an opener for decades now. Such nation do not have the luxury to ignor first class top scorers. Instead of KM who will you pick? Sami Aslam? Isnt ye a TTF as well?

If KM fail again, someone really need to work on Pak domestic cricket bcoz it gives bizarre outputs.

Ehsan Batted Well And Hes Got Max Holden OUT Cheaply lets see how he fares he seems to be bowling well in this 2nd innings i still feel he should be in our squad for the sa tour

Shaheen seems to be developing nicely. In the wickets again.

From the ECB:

England Lions enjoyed the best of day two in Abu Dhabi to put themselves in a strong position in the 'Test' match versus Pakistan A.

They ended the day with a lead of 189 and six second-innings wickets in hand after the bowlers had earlier dimissed Pakistan A for 195.

Star of the show was Mark Wood, who bowled quickly and nailed his lengths to take 4-67, while fellow opening bowler Jamie Porter was similarly effective, taking 3-22. There were two wickets as well for off-spinner Dom Bess and one for Jamie Overton.

That left the Lions with a lead of 45 and the batters would go on to build on that good work. Some early wickets left the score at 55-4 but Nottinghamshire's Joe Clarke and captain Sam Billings ended the day unbeaten on 61 and 32 respectively.

Clarke and Billings will resume tomorrow on day three, hoping to help take England towards a second red-ball success on the sub-continent in a week.

England A continue building their lead against Pakistan A as they reach 148/4, lead now of 193;

Shaheen outperforming everyone with the ball.

I would have had Arshad Iqbal in the team. A top quality prospect, would probably have outperformed Ehsan.

Pakistan A - 111/2 in pursuit of a target of 312 set up by England Lions.

Abid Ali 46*(115)
Usman Salahuddin 51*(98).

Encouraging to see Salahuddin bat with greater urgency.

Less encouraging is seeing Khurram Manzoor, who shouldn't be picked for the A team, predictably fail once more against any decent pace attack.

Khurram with a big belly standing in slip with hands on knees. Why was he selected.

132/2 chasing 300+

interesting last inns of the game.

England Lions and Pakistan A are set for a fascinating final day in Abu Dhabi with the hosts requiring a further 179 runs for victory and the Lions chasing eight wickets.

Set 312 to win, Pakistan A closed day three on 132-2 after Abid Ali and Usman Salahuddin had come together to put on 120 for the third wicket on a placid pitch that's yet to show any signs of deterioration.

England's bowlers bowled with great commitment but little reward, despite Jamie Porter striking with the first ball of the innings and Mark Wood following on in the fourth to remove Shan Masood.

Pakistan's imposing target was down in no small part to Joe Clarke, who continued his fine work from day two to make his maiden England Lions century.

The 22-year-old Nottinghamshire man - who recently moved from Worcestershire - made 107 with 10 fours to put the Lions ahead of the game, but Pakistan A's fightback leaves it right in the balance.

Should be an intriguing final day! I think this is a chance for Usman Salahuddin and Abid Ali to really catch the eyes of the selectors if they bring it home. Chasing a big score, losing 2 early wickets, if they can get match winning centuries they'll be close to the Pakistan team. If they get pretty 80's then get out and it doesn't result in a win, it won't be as good for them and as our horror show against NZ displayed, our batting in the national team is very weak!!!! So these two could be in the squad soon, putting pressure on the current batsmen in the team.

Shaheen and ehsan have to go to south africa if pak want to stand any chance. They both possess the ingredients for pacers to do well in sa; perfect height,140+ etc hope inzy is paying notice to this a team game

The final day of the 4-Day game between Pakistan A and England Lions is in progress; Usman Salahuddin and Abid Ali standing their ground as Pakistan A reach 143/2 * (48.2 ov, tgt 312), needing another 169 runs to win;

Good fight being shown by Usman and Abid Ali.

Shaheen's performance is very encouraging. It was a great decision to give him this game. He should have played in the games against NZ-A as well instead of the T20 series.

Good going by Saud. Attacking and making sure the lions don't get a whiff.

how ironic, our main team cannot make 160 in the same country and our A team is comfortably chasing 300+.

Usman Salahuddin > Asad Shafiq & Azhar Ali

boys have done it. super impressive.

Outstanding from Saud S at the end. 47 of 38.

Excellent run chase, get some of these guys into team for 2nd test vs new zealand.

Great chase against quite a decent Lions attack. By the time some of these guys make it to PAK team, they’ll also learn how to choke chasing 175.

This Rizwan guy has scored invaluable 58 & 47 from a tight position, has taken 6 dismissals & a run out, and didn’t concede a single bye for 500+ runs in 150+ overs of keeping ...... then we hear that there is no alternative of Sarfraz!!!!!

He also scored tons of runs in the last A team OD series against NZ.

That's only coming from sarfraz's fans who have disappeared. Don't worry the will be back as soon as he makes a bowling change and the bowler takes a wicket will then lecture you on what a great captain he is and oh yes his performance don't matter because we he's a great captain and we don't have anyone who can do this job.

In one innings or whole series combined?

Whole series. Nowadays sarfraz bats below Hasan in t20 and odis because he knows he's rubbish. Honestly thanks to him and few other oldoes I have lost the emotional attachment with the team.

Saud Shakeel should be drafted in pronto. We need a proper stroke-maker in the middle-order. Bring him in in-place of Imam for now, make Azhar and Fakhar open.
