I can't see Australia going with 3 pacers. I think Hilfenhaus or Siddle will be dropped and O'Keefe or Doherty play.

1. Warner/Hughes (depending on Warner's fitness)
2. Rogers
3. Doolan
4. Clarke*/Maxwell (depending on Clarke's fitness, Smith to 4 if Maxwell plays)
5. Smith
6. Marsh/Faulkner (depending on Marsh's fitness)
7. Haddin+
8. O'Keefe
9. Johnson
10.Siddle/Starc/Hilfenhaus (Starc appears the least likely and Siddle the most likely)
11.Lyon

Doherty isn't in the squad.

Hold your horses this is just a practice match he's just decent and is suspect against quality pacers

why should, this is almost the frontline aussie attack and they are playing 14 each.... appreciate.... if u cant appreciate a 100 against the aussies than what will you for???

Sarfraz and Shehzad were much better than him in ODI series...

Maqsood played decently in 1 match he got

Shafiq has still a big Question mark against his name as an ODI player

these ppl are seriously mad.. they cry that their batsmen crumble and the team cant bat the full quota of 50 overs... if a batsman scores a fifty or a century they say poor SR not an ODI player...cricket is not all about hitting boundaries brother it is more than that....from the beginning MOYO has been voicing that this lad is the technically sound batsman in the lineup yet they are playing hafeez at no.3 and bench this guy... consistency in tests has got him centuries even in SA...

Lets hope he kickstarts from here . But both shafiq and azhar ali are very timid and always look under pressure.

his odi record is very very poor.
his test record is average at best.

i hope he does well . Lets c how he goes when the real work starts.

i think shafiq is in good nick atm ... his last 10 inns was pretty good including both int'l and the domestic.. consistency ? he should keep up the tempo....

Pak A vs Australians Practice Test Match.

I saw the cricinfo scorecard and commentary of the Pakistan A innings. Some of the new Pkaistani batsmen seem to have given a good account of themselves.Did anyone of you see the match, did they really look good ? Asad Shafiq ,it seemed, really was going after the oppsition-including Jhonson and Siddle. And how did Haris and Babar do ?

Yes he hit Siddle for a 4 to get his 100 and then next ball hit him for 6 over his head.
Seems in good nick or the pitch is complete road.

87.6

Siddle to Asad Shafiq, SIX, agressive fronfoot shot over long on for a maximum
87.5

Siddle to Asad Shafiq, FOUR, smacks it on the backfoot to mid wicket for a boundary. Reaches to his ton in style
87.5

Siddle to Asad Shafiq, 1 wide, typical bowlers reply after being hit for a boundary, but its too high and is called a wide
87.4

Siddle to Asad Shafiq, FOUR, waited for it onto the backfoot, punches it down the ground
87.3

Siddle to Mohammad Talha, 1 run, onto the backfoot, hits it very convincingly
87.2

Siddle to Mohammad Talha, no run, drives it on the rise but straigh to mid-on
87.1

Siddle to Mohammad Talha, no run, frontfoot defense

Shafiq played really well! Looks in great touch, hopefully he can carry his form through. That straight drive for 6 off Siddle was beautiful, was just like this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sbuK-eWkHN4

Haris Sohail played a good hand but unfortunately fell short of 50.

Positive stuff from Pakistan A, we could challenge them if we bowl well.

Definitely need to get the other opening slot sorted out or we will be 1 down before the first over is even completed 9/10 times. Out of the 3 formats, our opening combination is the most unstable in tests, I think we've shuffled through around 50 different openers in the past year or two lol.

Right now Azhar Ali is probably the best option, but I'm okay with giving Shan Masood another few chances. Was unfair to drop him after his 75 vs SA and keep Manzoor, as they both failed after that series. Should've gotten rid of both.

Thing with Azhar as an opener is that we will have 2 openers weak to spin, a free ticket for O'Keefe to come in and bundle them out.

I am hugely against Shafiq as our number 3 in ODIs, but completely back him in that position in tests. That last over :srt

Predicted O'Keefe to do some good damage, and was proved right. That too on a dead pitch. Just need to play him smartly and not give him gift wrapped wickets like what we did with Tahir.

From the video, it seems like Shafiq absolutely hammered the likes of Johnson and Siddle. From all the Pakistan batsman i have seen Shafiq looks to be the most impressive, not quite sure why he is rated so lowly on this forum.

Having a look at the bowling figures, and I dont consider letting Pakistan A score 300 runs in a day a good day.....

Mitch went at 2.67, on his way back after an injury. Fine by me.

Siddle went at nearly 4 which is no good. I might need to change my avatar to a poodle if he keeps going this way.

Maxwell only bowled 3 overs which hints to me that he isnt going to be picked as second spinner. Hope we pick him in the top six then, at the very least over a proven dud like Phil Hughes who if picked will just prove for the sixth time or whatever that he isnt a test match player.

By the way, watch today for Hughes to score heavily as usual against an inferior attack.

Our main pacers are out injured so whoever does well here will be picked for tests as well. So if he does well, you might as well select him for tests.

Inconsistency and his lack of confidence.
