Pakistan bowled out for 217 before West Indies reached 2/2 at Stumps on Day 1 of the 1st Test

Pak should try to keep WI below 200 to get advantage or below 250 to remain reasonably in the game.

186/5 to 217/7 to 217/10.

The run out triggered the collapse.

I wouldn't speak too soon, this could be tricky to bat on in the last few overs

Pakistan have gotten about par i think.

I would have played nuaman as he's a better batter but I would say I'd take that score

Could have been much worse when Pak lost 5 for 101. Despite lack of contribution from tail, it can be called a decent recovery

I think u have to still put blame on Sir Abid and Imran who were predictably terrible again with leaving us at 20-odd for 2.

Definitely but azhar Ali played a poor innings one of the poorest I have seen from him in a long while

I was put to sleep by Imran's 91 against Zimbabwe.

Fawad did well, but you can't beat him up for the runout. That happens in cricket.

The use of 1 spinner on this pitch is a good idea. Abbas, Shaheen/Hassan and Faheem will be a handful here i promise you.

Imran Butt again proving his importance again as a slip fielder

Fawad and fahim put Pakistan back into the context.
I would have played nuaman over yasir

Abbas with 2 in 2 on his comeback.

Poor review by Bonner

Abbas’ pace is up. After a long time I am seeing him touching 130

So only spinner can ball at this time of the day

Azhar can bowl no?

He can but, even if you ball spin you can ball until certain light conditions so I guess umpires decided its done for the day. There can be a chance of early start tmw die to rain and lost overs

Day 1: Stumps - West Indies trail by 215 runs

PAK 217
WI 2/2 (4) CRR: 0.5

West Indies bowlers are better than Pakistan bowlers I seeming and swinging conditions....

Tomorrow and Saturday forecast doesn’t look good

Considering the conditions and at the pace this match is moving I think there is a chance of a result in even 270-300 overs.

Tomorrow might be a small passage of play but honestly Pak are in this. Vital wicket for me is Rostron Chase just now, I reckon we’ll get the rest out cheaply.

I can’t see this game lasting more then 3 1/2 4 days weather permitting , Pakistan should bowl out West Indies for under 150

Imran Butt and Abid Ali should be dropped. They are as good as abbas and shaheen as batters.
Imran Butt is a fantastic fielder possibly the best slip fielder we have had.

Yasir was getting spin and grip but was understandably wayward in his first over after 5 months. I think Hasan will get good support from this pitch.

Shouldn't underestimate Mayers or Blackwood here, a free flowing batter can manufacture a get a good score here without looking at home. Holder has always been a tough wicket to get.

Taking Pakistan's final five wickets for just 31 runs, the West Indies looked to have taken control, only for a Mohammad Abbas double strike to spoil their day in Jamaica.

Losing Kieran Powell and Nkrumah Bonner to Abbas before the light was called, the hosts finished the day reeling at 2-2 and will look to rebuild through skipper Kraigg Brathwaite and Roston Chase in reply to Pakistan's 217.

Beginning their World Test Championship campaign at Sabina Park, home skipper Brathwaite won the toss and elected to bowl on a greenish surface, and his new-ball pair of Kemar Roach and Jayden Seales both made the most of the conditions, claiming an early wicket each.

Roach found the gap between Imran Butt's bat and pad, cleaning him up for 11, with Abid Ali edging a full Seales delivery to wicketkeeper Joshua da Silva for 9.

As rain interrupted the first session of play, Pakistan fought to 68-2 after lunch, only for Seales and Roach to strike again in successive overs. Seales in particular extracted life out of the surface, finding the shoulder of Azhar Ali's bat to dismiss him for 17, while Roach's fuller length undid Babar Azam, edging to Da Silva for 30.

In response to the double blow Fawad Alam and Mohammad Rizwan picked up the pieces, ticking the score over three figures, though the partnership of 33 ended abruptly with a lapse in concentration by the Pakistan gloveman. Looking in relative control and scoring his 23 from 30 deliveries, he failed to keep a flick off his pads along the ground, finding Roston Chase at square leg off the bowling of Jason Holder.

Alam dug in despite partners falling at the other end, including Faheem Ashraf (44) who was run out by Chase to break a partnership of 85. Losing Yasir Shah for a duck and Hasan Ali for 14, Alam was undone by Jason Holder, edging onto his stumps for 56. Holder claimed the final wicket of Mohammad Abbas in a successful cleanup of the tail, seemingly swinging the match in the hosts' favour.

It was Abbas' new-ball nous that stole the show as the light waned however, with the swing bowler not conceding a run across his two overs and claiming the West Indian pair in successive deliveries. Finding Powell's outside edge and the grateful hands of Imran Butt diving forwards, Abbas then wrapped the pads of Bonner, who was adjudged lbw.

Pakistan turned to spin as umpires Gregory Brathwaite and Joel Wilson looked to the horizons, with Yasir Shah finding Brathwaite's outside edge in the last over of play. The ball fell short of first slip, with Brathwaite adding a single to the score four balls before stumps was called.

Mohammad Abbas speaking after the day 1:

"I am very pleased and thank the Almighty that I was able to take 2 wickets which will help Pakistan and that is always my intention"

"This pitch has grass and conditions are difficult for batting and I was telling myself that we need to score atleast 200 runs here, because when we came here in 2017, the pitch behaviour was different than it is now; Hopefully we will get them all out before they get to our first innings score"

"My job is to get wickets with the new ball which is what I have done, now we have to show some patience as this is Test cricket to get the rest of the wickets tomorrow and especially in the morning; The idea would be to deny them runs and get them out in the least possible score"

"I always felt that any score above 200 would be good for us as our bowling is capable of restricting them within this score as, especially if you see how Shaheen and Hassan have been bowling in the recent past, and we also have Faheem who supports us well as he had done with the bat; Hopefully we will take a lead of 50-60 runs in the first innings today after bowling them out"

Didn't get to watch any play- what do people think of Searle from the WI?

Got the makings of a good career? What is he like?

A bit wayward, he was expensive.

Needs a bit more control, but he has the makings of a good career if he learns to bowl on off-stump line consistently.

Fawad Alam:

We will try to put more pressure on the batsmen this morning and that should result in more wickets to fall

I entered the field with positive mindset and the ideas was to try to stay on the crease for as long as possible because runs would come if we stayed on the pitch

Faheem Ashraf:

It's not easy to bat long on this pitch and you have to play with focus, but I was just thinking about getting the team out of a difficult situation

I have done well with the bat and now I will try to do my part as a bowler

Below par score by Pakistan but 2 quick wickets were exactly what was needed.

40 to 50 run 1st innings lead would be ideal.

This feels like such low quality cricket after watching the England vs India Lords test running in tandem. The quality of batting on display from the 2 India openers vs these 2 awful openers throwing their hands at balls they should be leaving - basics of being a test match opener. A real downgrade in viewing.
Embrace the new norm just like COVID and quarantine, this is what they have signed up for with Misbah and Waqar as coaches.

I don’t expect any kind of improvement in players , teams as whole and I’m 100% sure there will be no new youngster will be unearthed under these two stubborn and uncertified coaches.

Misbah will be hell bent to play his friends and carry them through at the cost of losing matches , that is what I have seen so far.

He tends to overpitch but that maybe because they use a Dukes ball that actually swings. Hes good but I dont think he has the potential of Alzarri.
