Pakistan bowled out for 294, stretch match into Day 4, set South Africa target of 41 to win 2nd Test

I know he will play the last test match, but for Asad’s long term career, nothing less than 150 is good enough
 
327 more runs from here would put us in a winning position. 277 from here would be nice to considering where we were.
 
Hope Fakahr score a Century and seal his spot at 6 and the man in danger will be Imaam bhateeja.

But Azhar played well against NZ. Both of these guys will always save their careers playing one good innings.

Both will be there in Australia in 10 months time.

Anywhere outside UAE & PAK is better. Those two wickets are exactly what doesn’t go with the core strength of PAK cricket.

If we can somehow take a 250 runs lead (a VERY uphill task), SA would be in huge trouble batting 4th innings at a pitch opening up with cracks.. I reckon Yasir Shah would be crucial in 4th innings ..

That's asking too much. Realistically we can still be out for 220. Only hope is centuries by Asad and Babar. Get a lead of 150 to have a chance.

Defecit almost gone. Old soft Kookabarru ball. We've got our stroke makers now. A set Asad, Babar, Fakhar and Sarfraz. Get a lead of alteast 150 and watch Yasir work his magic as Pakistan pull of their most famous victory.
 
If SA bat again in this match it will be an achievement

Pakistan can still do a Fannie De Villiers Sydney Test magic. Where Proteas defended 114 against Australia in early 1994. Damien Martyn did the Azhar Ali and was punished by not being selected again for 4 years.
For that pakistan needs a score of 375. Still too far away.

Unfortunately it wont. This is a flat pitch with one crack somewhere on the good length area.

Unless it deteriorates enough to let Yasir do some damage, anything short of 250 will be hard to defend.

Then the new ball is due after 1 over tomorrow.

The entire match hangs on what Asad Shafiq and Babar Azam do after Tea. They need to put together a partnership to wipe off the deficit, but they also need to ensure that the tail doesn’t face the second new ball tomorrow morning.

I have a horrible feeling that the game will be broken open by Rabada and Philander after Tea. If Pakistan loses 3 wickets and ends up 250-6 overnight, it’s basically Game Over with a new ball available from the start tomorrow.

But if these two score 150 in the 39 overs against the old ball, it would be 325-3 overnight and effectively 71-3 when the new ball arrives tomorrow.......

Doubt we will get full 39 overs in with four pacers, don’t you think?

Bhateeja is never in danger the next series is going to be his very last chance and the next will be his very very last and so on and so forth ......

Probably another 35 overs - PAK should look to end at 303-4 at most, but a wicketlesss session will be gold; even 278-3 is great.
 
Babar has a self destructive bad habit of touching balls out side off. Must learn to leave balls, otherwise career Test average won’t cross 40.

As is the case with most Pakistani batsmen. Fishing outside the off stump is our eternal problem.
 
Such a tragedy that our tail has no back bone whatsoever.
 
I thought after scoring a matchwinning hundred against srilanka in 302 chase azhar will improve as a player but never happened. Same i thought about shafiq when he scored 137 in 4th innings 450 runs in brisbane , never happened. These two guys just keep you disappointed.

Can you just stop whining, and take this rona dhona someplace else? It's getting annoying now.

Asad has been sublime. Needs to get to a hundred to make this a memorable one.

Pacers are tired, it’s a 45 overs old ball and 2 set batsmen in; but SAF will also spread out fielding. Best tactics in such situation is to rotate singles and don’t allow bowlers to attack one batsman for full overs. And, for Babar ‘s benifit no spinner either. It’s elementary that they must go to pavilion unscathed, 20-30 runs hardly matters.
 
From my thread of blunders from Sarfaraz and Mickey, atleast one is improved with Shafiq batting 2 down.

Agreed, whenever they are needed the most as senior players they disappoint the most. Its the pressure of seniority after Misbah and Younus which they cant handle. Thought that Azhar was ever made an ODI captain still makes be nauseous.

They were saying that there is no info regarding Fakhar not opening and whether he is injured or not. I think its purely a strategic move
 
FZ it’s not unfit - some bruising might be. It’s a tactical call to bat him at 6 and I wonder it took Mickey 3 innings to figure that out.
 
Asad Shafiq closing on a 100 and ensuring he is never dropped in the next decade.
