The Test match remains delicately poised. Pakistan dominated the opening session, but South Africa clawed their way back superbly in the next two, ensuring the contest stayed competitive throughout the day. It could, however, have been a very different story had the South African fielders held on to their chances — several missed opportunities proved costly and allowed Pakistan to post a stronger total than they might have deserved.

In the morning, Harmer provided the early breakthrough by dismissing Imam-ul-Haq, setting the tone for a lively session. Yet, Abdullah Shafique and Shan Masood steadied the ship with a solid second-wicket stand, blending caution with classy stroke play. Their partnership put Pakistan in a commanding position before Shafique’s dismissal shifted the momentum. From there on, South Africa’s bowlers applied relentless pressure, not letting any batter settle for long periods.

Shan once again fell agonizingly short of a century, undone after a patient and well-constructed innings. The Proteas’ spinners bowled the majority of the overs, finding increasing assistance as the day wore on and keeping Pakistan’s scoring rate in check.

With the match finely balanced, Day 2 promises to be a fascinating one. Early wickets could tilt the game South Africa’s way, while Pakistan will look to build on their platform and push toward a commanding total. Either way, the stage is set for another gripping day of Test cricket.

The current partnership has to last at least 50 runs for Pak to post 350 plus. Next man is Noman, this could end pretty quickly if SA get an early breakthrough. Taking the innings to lunch is the minimum, if we can survive till tea (not happening) then it would be game over. This partnership is key. Trusting these two genuine test players to show how it’s done today.

Saud will score a century today. I know it.

Hopefully get to see some fight from the boyses to get to 380ish. Pak girlses are also playing against SA womens in the WC today.

Test cricket is the real deal, a true test of players ability and where the value of wicket is earned.

decent deck , 400+ on ... yesterdays pitch report by Ramiz was all about how dry & abrasive the pitch is , today by Sohail - no mention of either, says good pitch .
293/5

And goner.... Salman missed a straighter one but Mahraj was fantastic... sets him up nicely for that one.

Good innings, though

Tactical error by SA in Jansen. Pakistan could have been rolled out for around 200.

This score gives enough cushion for 50+ lead.

ODI captain comes in... Happy chappy
Incidentally I had posted several times during Asia Cup when Afridi was performing with bat that time for F-in-Law to get active & get the captaincy for Shaheen .Ho gaya with jokers running the circus called PCB .

Toss Play Major factor as Pakistan get better batting conditions than Africa. That is only different in this series :kp

Brainless from shaheen

Our tail doing same stupid stuff like they did in the last test match

Both noman and sajid can either apply themselves and show they can bat or play same dumb shots as last few tests

Impossible for the tail to last against spin. They should just slog and get what they can

Why everyone allowing Shaheen to bat higher up when he is no 10 bat at best. Nauman and Sajid are better than him, I have not seen Asif bat, but I guess even he is.
