I think you're right. A ruthless "standard Test mode" team with any substance could probably have put on the chase in Test 1 or batted England right out of this game.
Pakistan batting is suddenly worse than I thought. I had Rizwan banked in as quality, Imam promising and Babar is one of the fab 4 - which he probably still is, just in his "Root as captain only scoring 60s" phase.
If Ramiz really advised the selection of these "bits n pieces adding up to nothing" allrounders for Tests then he has made a huge blunder and placed Babar's captaincy under pressure as a result (I don't think you can remove it from Babar because there is literally no one else).
The solution is more Shaheens tours to help promising batsmen make a case and gain wider experience to bridge the gap between FC & Test. Matter of finding some of this money from home matches to fund that if possible.
