Pakistan close on 77/2 at the end of Day 4 in the 1st Test in Karachi

This is a very old school watch. An 80 lead is already handy. I think NZ’s plan is to push the run rate after lunch and end up with a lead of 180, then have four sessions to bowl out Pakistan either within the deficit or leave themselves a small total to chase in the final session of the match. The pitch may be flat, but scoreboard pressure is going to be the issue for Pakistan.

Nz clearly just wanting to bat once. Get a lead close to 200 and pakistan will wilt under pressure.

This match has all the ingredients of Pakistan losing in a dramatic fashion. A collapse to NZ spinners is inevitable. NZ with a lead of close to 200 and Pakistan batting final session to save their sorry bum's is poetry.

I think they're afraid it would play into the hands of opponents but it can't get worse than this right

Unfortunately most of our fans too followed this jahil logic. "If we make seaming tracks, we lose".

Our young talent all lies in fast bowling. They need help not these murderous pitches to kill their confidence and their backs.

Yes. They won't take chance with their bowling line up even though they can. They take loss out of the equation in the process.

Disastrous session. Need to come up with double intensity this session or Pakistan will be pushed against the wall by end of the day..

No wonder none of the good fast bowlers are ready to bowl on these dead wickets

Get the feeling that even if this one ends up as a draw, NZ won’t mind because the next match starts very promptly (on Monday) and Pak bowlers/players will have spent an exhausting 200 overs in the field here, straight after three back to back Tests against England as well. NZ are looking to take this series deep and grab an opportunity when it comes.

Agree. Pakistan's best talent is in fast bowling and first thing they do is prepare pitches which negates the fast bowling. I also think that swing/seam hasn't troubled Pakistani batsmen as much as pace/bounce does. Pakistan batsmen have generally batted quite decently in England. They can look to prepare pitches which has moderate bounce with help for seamers.

Contrary to what many feel here, I feel this is totally going as per PCT’s plan. With the gully mohalla level bowling attack he has at his disposal, Babar knows he cannot take 20 NZ wickets. So draw is the next best result. The record for most consecutive losses stops at 3, “king” Babar’s test average gets a boost, and he can say in the post match conference that his team dominated most of the match, had the match in their pockets only if a few catches were taken, but credit to opposition for their fight back yada yada

As per cricbuzz "New Zealand are in no hurry here and Pakistan just look devoid of ideas. And fair to say the pitch and the Kookaburra ball has sent everyone watching to sleep. Back for the next boring (hopefully not) session in 30 minutes..."

This. If the pitch doesn't break up enough, they can just wear out Pakistan and capitalise in the next test. If it does start breaking up, they can probably bowl out Pakistan in 70 overs.

They can't Bazball Pakistan so have chosen Boycsball instead . Seems to be working fine :inti

This. Whenever New Zealand declare or are bowled out, it's time for Pakistan's usual 3rd innings collapse.

Pakistan's goal was to bowl them out cheaply this morning a set a target of 200 on this pitch - Nauman Ali said this in the presser yesterday.

Lol, they can't even bowl them out in first innings and dreaming about 10 wickets in second innings.

pakistan were only bowled out because our top 4 wickets gone were thrown away. Even with our batting lineup we should have scored 550.

Waqar highlighting the issues with the bowling attack and the lack of balance in the playing XI for this pitch

If Ramiz can be kicked out so promptly, what right does Saqlain have to see out his tenure? The guy has been a complete panoti for our test side, zero improvement or development of any spinner.

Pakistan's pathetic body language is going to reflect in their batting. Cannot wait for Babar Azam to be replaced, does not have the body language of a fighter or a leader when the chips are down.

NZ hoping for Pakistan collapse otherwise playing for draw here. Knowing Pakistan they are well capable of being bowled for 250.

Good thing I haven’t watched this circus show live for 2 days. Just following the score. Can’t tune in to support this sort of spineless performance

Nauman Ali seems to have had a fairy tale story. Getting to wear the green cap at 36+ after toiling away for years in domestics. Goes to show that hard work pays off.

Mohammad Wasim is a timeless beauty. 3rd on the field and he looks like he came straight from vanity van.

Pitch still doing nothing

Pakistan are looking as flat as the pitch out there

Doubt if NZ will declare. They’ll want as large a target as they can set up. They may get out trying to force the pace once they have a certain lead, say 150?

Add to that doubt they’ll want to chase anything north of 200 in the fourth innings and that’s a stretch.

Williamson tries 4 reverse sweeps in a row

Babar wouldn’t even try one

English pacers would have employed bouncers, leg slips but the Pakistani pacers have just continued to pitch the ball up or at the stumps throughout the innings with very little bouncers.

Not sure what Shaun Tait contributes to the team. This will be his 7th test match in charge of the bowlers in these conditions and he still has zero ideas on what to do in these conditions.

Nz will declare in last session today. Will give an hour or so to this pathetic pakistan batting and expect a total collapse

I predict pak to lose by an innings

What is the point batting on and not hitting out. You can easy get 50 runs hitting out in 7 overs, at this rate they will add 50 runs in 15 overs, wasting valuable time to bowl out opposition.

As they say, don't judge a pitch until both sides have batted on it.

Although we made a seemingly decent score of 438, NZL have shown that was about 100 short of par on this highway.

Could be heading for a fifth consecutive home Test defeat.

The first 4 players really let us down. Imam, Abdullah, Shan and Saud batted poorly or didn’t cash in

Watch the pitch turn into minefield when Pakistan will bat . Pakistan are poor test team we need to accept that . Replacing personnel won’t help .

Replacing personnel always helps. Australia does it every time they lose a series.

First wicket of the day, but it took Pakistan until 30 minutes before Tea to get there.

That’s very disappointing.

Pakistani fans fully deserve this humiliation.

Thank you Imran Khan, Wasim & Mani for destroying Pakistan cricket. This is the fruits of the domestic cricket reforms of 2019.

Sethi has his work cut out.

disappointing approach by NZ even if they are in lead, slow batting. on this pitch , lead with 150 and declare, u need to work super hard to get wickets

Another 5fer

Abrar becoming a solid bowler through all of this toil on the Pakistan pitches

Babar asked for the review from the next innings

Even he knows we ain’t getting there

Babar will need to learn to treat resuming his inning on a new day as a new innings. This was the pitch where he could have scored 300.

so 120 odd overs remaining. Pakistan will have to bat 100 of them to save the game at least and score at good rate as well. Lets see.
