What's new

Pakistan collapse to 190 all out at stumps on Day 2, set South Africa target of 149 to win

42 Lead on this wicket is like 100-150 anywhere else.

We would need to score 230-40 now to get a 200 lead which would be defend-able

We are will at least lose 2/3 wickets with our batting before these 42 are wiped off

Fakhar, Imam and Shan, one of these three needs to dig in for us and give us a hundred!

Think both teams have underperformed on this pitch. There has been some uneven bounce but not a 181 and 223 all out surface. Probably speaks to the weaknesses of both batting lineups.

Anyway it was vital to bowl SAF out for below 250 so well done to the bowlers, especially Amir and Shaheen.

Hopefully we'll see an improved batting display from us now.

Agreed. The people that freaked out yesterday should apologise to the groundsman. This is a decent pitch.

Trial by 42, 225 runs should be the minimum target, setting the Saffers 184 to get 4th innings. Openers need to get us to 30-40 and the rest know the way thereon in

If Pakistan can set a target of 210-220 South Africa will be really worried

If the team management doesnt change the batting order in this innings then i guess we are better without a team management.

I’m going to look on the positive side. Yes we gave a few to many away this morning but man great fightback to still be in this test. Let’s not forget we thought it was over yesterday when we were 90 odd for 7. That Babar innings was not only sooo good to watch but it proved to be so valuable not just with the runs but it gave us some confidence going into bowl. From there on Amir and Shaheen were fantastic taking 8 between each other. I only imagine what they will do at a ground like Newlands with Abbas along side them.

Hopefully our batsman can set a target of around 200 now for our bowlers.

This pitch isn't as bad as the scorecard and days passed suggest. A couple of our batsmen need to toughen up mentally and grind out two to three solid partnerships.

Have to get Babar in at 3. Let him control the innings and hopefully rest can play around him to set atleast 200 target

To be fair the pitch eased out once it lost some moisture. The first session and a half were quite tough.

If the openers can wipe out the lead here they should be persisted with for full series

I might be wrong here but I thought I saw the groundsmen using the heavy roller. Sarfraz shouldn't have chosen the heavy roller here when the pitch is already favoring the faster bowlers. Also there was no indication of any exaggerated seam movement in the morning session. A light roller would've been just fine.

Too sudden a jump especially during an ongoing match. Just promote him above Shafiq.

Only chance of Pakistan winning this match is if Fakhar provides some impetus at the top and wipes off the lead in quick time.

Fakhar should look to come out and blow the lead away, with some belligerent batting. Really want to see that Oliver guy get tapped too.

Wasn’t Faf the one who choose the roller and how long it would roll for?

If Shan Masood wants to cement a place in the side; now is the chance...

The pitch doesn’t look as bad as the scorecard suggest. Scores are low due lack of quality batsmen, decent bowling attack’s and some poor shots.

Batting last will be get difficult, atm the pitch is still good for 250 as you get full value for your shots and the cracks still haven’t opened up. We are in a decent position, if our batsmen can apply themselves then we should be able to get a match winning lead.

I reckon this 41 runs lead from South Africa is going to be the difference at the end of the match

Babar needs to bat 4 in this 2nd inns, Move shafiq back to number 6.

Affectively Imam playing for his career today. Wish him the best of luck in this innings

Strong possibility that the match will be over today , steyn will come all fired up. Pakistan wont score more than 120.

South Africa is not a mentally strong side and they have some inexperienced players.
200 will test them in 4th innings. Amla is not in form and their captain will be cautious too playing his 2nd innings.
However for this to occur Pakistan's openers need to fire. Pak batting is capable of 250, they just need to get out of the mental block.
Was anyone really expecting SA to be dismissed for 220 ?

If pak batsman can’t get 280 now, then they should consider another profession.

Test match is there for the taking.

Pakistan will score 280+ which means SA will be needing to chase 240 odd.

Atleast that’s my prediction.

Yes, they need to realise in modern day cricket a 42 run lead is nothing. They need someone from top order to get out of the mental block and play a de Kock type innings. That is all that is required. SA lack experience and mental strength, their body language is already affected due to the low first innings score. They will also be worrying about Yasir Shah in 4th innings.

Pakistan need to make close to 350 here. And take the advantage of the fine weather

Rabada jogging in and bowling at... 143kph. Effortless.

It appears that pitch has eased out a bit, this is best time for batting. Today there are 64 overs. Pak nees to get the best out of these 64 overs.

They should be around 160/4 ideally at the end of the day.

Every run from Pakistan is gonna make SA under pressure

Will be interesting to see if the wicket gets flatter from here on in. If so even 200 lead may not be enough. Seeing the cracks however I think batting will get more difficult but will that come into play from day 3 or 4?

Key on this wicket is to play the shots in your zone as you are eventually gonna get out. Babar showed that, Bavuma and QDK also to some extent in their innings.

Imam using the edge of his bat well so far!

15/0 - 27 still behind.

I expect Imam to score a 50 here. There's been pattern here for Imam. All of his major contributions have come in the 2nd innings.

80+ against Afghanistan in a chase
80+ against Bangladesh in a chase
70+ against Ireland in a chase
100+ against Sri Lanka in a chase

The Zimababwean series was the only one in which he scored batting first.

He really likes chasing.

Looks like both batsmen are going to waft outside the stumps... so either quick runs but wickets as well.

Fakhar needs to be careful with those flashy drives early in his innings.

What is Fakhar doing out there? Shan would have been a much better option to open
