What's new

Pakistan collapse to 190 all out at stumps on Day 2, set South Africa target of 149 to win

Must be an asian batting thing of moving to leg stump then trying to drive the ball

Totally, but openers from India arent that legish. Maybe its the left hander thing looking for the room

So far Pakistan batsmen have been defensive and almost scared. No intent to even create half decent shots. Lucky runs coming from edges and streaky shots. They are playing exactly like SA would want them to play, they have just been very fortunate so far.

Imam needs to correct his techniqal deficiencies outside off but guy sure is a fighter

When you do this and look to drive your even further away to the pitch of the ball and always end up leaning back into the drive. With feet like they are in cement.

Very poor technically, more so with asian left handers.

Couple more overs with no wicket and I would say openers have done a decent job

Fakhar actually has good defence, just needs to stop flashing way outside off

Over eager to dominate, sometimes you have to battle hard before been able to earn right to play your shots.

Yes Dhawan also has the same problem and that is why he is dropped as well. Karunaratne is a pretty good one with his off stump in terms of Asian left handers

What is it with some Pakistani batsmen leaving their bats in the air when they duck?

Need to play olliver better in this inns and not make him look like a hero again.

Looks like South Africa bowling well, hows the pitch playing guys? What do you reckon will be a challenging total?

Strange dismissals Olivier had yesterday, half of them should have been avoided.

Karunaratne is one opening batsmen ive been impressed with, he seems to be the one real decent quality batsmen SL have now.

They do have matthews as well but hes always injured or missing.

Need to get to 1st drinks break no wickets down and just look to bat solidly in mini sessions.

Any guesses for when the last time Pakistan had a fifty run opening partnership in a Test in South Africa ?

Rameez is here: expect to hear words DNA, system, make up, shock, jolt, hurt

Lol which match is this commentator watching

Beautifully poised game. PAK needs to set a target around 250, at least 225 to bring Yasir in the game. Sunny day, condition should be good for batting.

Its like Imam is out there batting with a tailender. Thats what Test Cricket can do to you!

South Africa should have had a third man after the first three overs: never underestimate the pressure of a run lead on Pakistan

Mark Nicholas is on (brilliant), but so is Ramiz. Torn; should we turn the volume off or leave it on? @saj

Irrespective of how they survived, this is excellent stuff from openers. They did their job of wearing the new ball.

They can really make South Africa pay for a four man bowling attack if they hold their nerve

Since the both openers are lefties, it makes easier for the bowlers to bowl the right line and length. Pity we don't have a good right handed opener ( I know we never had). Azhar is the only Choice, but we need him at 4.

Playing with the straight bat is good but ideally they should come on top of the ball as well otherwise leave it

They were lucky. Still bemused to see the flashy drives outside off nearly every over. No intent to change strategy. Really perplexing to see how much pressure Pakistani batsmen absorb, but it unfortunately rarely works.

Azhar and babar scored runs 1st inns by playing straight and putting bad balls away. These two openers need to do same.

Put the flamboyant shots away for a while.

When Steyn is your slowest bowler, you know you have a good attack

Agreed but a little success can do world of good to your confidence and application.

If only one of them can carry on and play decent innings it would be cherry on top of cake

One thing I've noticed conditions do play part in batting run rate. In UAE it is great if you can score at 3 run per over on average. So UAE has indeed damaged our Cricket

I know you guys give Rameez a lot of flack but he's giving quite the insight with regards to Imam's stance and batting right now.
