What's new

Pakistan collapse to 190 all out at stumps on Day 2, set South Africa target of 149 to win

who will sit for harris among these two, imam or shan, this is their chance, both future on line, and Fakhar is no sehwag nut is better than these two so should bat at 5 or 6 with old ball and tired bowlers he can be deadly, and azhar has to open with one of these two, Harry at 3, he is best player of pace in this squad, babar at 4, Fakhar 5 , asad at his favorite 6, ideally rizwan at 7, but specialist captain has to play, Shadab/Fahim pitch dependant, than Amir, Shaheen and abaas, play this team and series is ours, this simple common sense but our thick tink isn't bright enough. We always screw ourselves.

His strength is not to play an innings like you would expect Hanif Mohammed to play. Surely he is played to score quick runs and relieve pressure? But in tests, when the team is constantly under pressure, he gets out of his comfort zone.

Have to play ball on merit. He is not playing on a flat one in Dubai it is a 180 track and he needs to learn to grind it out when necessary. He is a professional cricketer.

Shan looking awful too

OK so in recent history we have not seen the best side of Masood. He has some qualities about him that can be vital for this side. I like the fact that he wants to play the shorter ball on the up due to his height. He Also seems to want to score instead of just survive.

Imam 30 off 40 balls and Fakhar 12 off 40, just goes to show he really wasnt looking to play according to the situation or the track. No game plan whatsoever. Dissapointing innings from him

Fakhar is the type of batsman who will not hang around for more than say a 100 balls. It is up to him whether he wants to score 50+ in those 100 balls or 20, which is what tends to happen when he is not willing to play his natural game.

This olivier looks so strong he can bowl bouncers all day but our batsmen need to remain patient.

His dismissal today was plain stupid. He had done all the hard work and survived the testing period. Momentum was with Pakistan but he gave it away immediately.

Agreed but he might gonna have such dissmisals in future as well. That is how he plays and is at his best this way.

Yes looked ugly with this shot but bcz he can change the game in the favor of his team on his day, so either we have him with his strengths and weaknesses or we dont have him. Personally I would take a game changer any day.

Agreed, play the ball on merit, but play according to your strengths.

Sky need to get Holding and Nicholas to commentate together, rather than rotating them!

69.6% of Pakistan's runs in 1st innings were in boundaries
63.6% of SA's runs in 1st innings were in boundaries
72% of Pakistan's runs in 2nd innings are in boundaries so far.

Can't imagine any other Test match having a higher ratio than that.

i would have him but 5 or 6 specially in SENA countries,,, Thats best for both him and team,,,

We just need to avoid losing wickets now then bowlers will naturally tire out.

Knuckle down boys, they will have to change Steyn in about 4 overs from now.

Yes but on this wicket I dont think you can survive for long without intent of scoring runs.

What do you guys think will be defendable score

I'd say anywhere between 220-250 is a must for Pakistan. 250+ would be a HUGE bonus and with so much time in the game, they can actually grind the side down like they would on a Dubai track. Leave everything outside off, wear a few to the body, get the bowlers straighter and then clip them down the leg side.

There is just so much time in the game for them to do it, just about application and mental fortitude now.

This is the norm in challenging low scoring wickets.

Sifarish brothers in the middle fighting for who will stay and who'll be kicked out for Haris :13:

Then Rabada will come, there will be no easy overs. Pak needs to play the ball on merit and dont need to let loose balls away

We have to keep weather also in mind.May have to bat a bit faster

The highest 4th innings chase came in 2000 when England chased down 249 (the Hansie Cronje Test).

The highest chase after that was in 1998 when SAF chased down 226 against SRL.

this, make your stay count,,, playing time is not of any help here,,, there will always be one with your name sooner than later on this pitch.

I know it's a bit early but I think sarfaraz needs to the his arrival to match that of Mr Maharaj and start upping the ante and not letting him settle. That will probably be an hour after tea.
inshaAllah that means a promotion and not a demotion :)

So much for Pakistan dont play the short ball well. Take that Haysman!

Imam looks a much better player when he shows intent rather than merely accumulating time at the crease.

So Mahraj is gonna come at Steyn’s end? It would be slightly early

Challenge will be to keep fast bowlers on as long as possible, it’s a hot day, should benefit Pakistan if they hold on

Wah imam he has booked his place for this series

He is a decent talent and we dont a have many better openers then him especially in tests. Its him, Shan, Abid, Sami Aslam. He has shown more guts than some others

It is like when he keeps on playing, scoring and thinking he's good. As soon as he stops thinking and get stuck he gets out.

Kind of stage where You expect guys like to Steyn to turn it around

Still has at least a good 3 years of prime in him. He's bowling as well as he ever has.

I think he can reserve these good years to maximise his earnings outside of International cricket. Not much more to be gained in Tests really

I know commentators are saying it’s a pitch when no one is ever in, but this seems like an easy pitch now.

Yeah, but Steyn is one of the few purists left in Test cricket. I think he's eyeing McGrath's record, and rightly so! He deserves it. You can make big bucks playing leagues and maybe even County but to further his status as a legend, Tests are the way to go.

Imam capitalising on SA’s mistakes. Only way I will forgive this guy for all the pain he has caused is if he scores a 100 Inshallah.

All Imam dislikers? Who do you think should be in the team instead of a 23 year old opener who was amongst the top openers of last years FC season and probably youngest lf that lot?

True, and he will be valued as a high end analyst. Very good vocal skills and plenty of reputation to back it up with
