What's new

Pakistan collapse to 190 all out at stumps on Day 2, set South Africa target of 149 to win

I’m very surprised ever since the first ball in the first innings Shan Masood has showed positive intent to make runs and now in the second innings constantly looking to rotate the strike.

Maharaj and Yasir must feel pretty useless in this game.

Its not a question of if, its a question of when will they bowl. Its only day 2 and the stage is being set for a result. Yasir may bowl a couple in the last innings, may bowl many. Tricky situation for both captains so far

Need to make these bowlers toil hard in this heat.

Still has at least a good 3 years of prime in him. He's bowling as well as he ever has.

I think he can make 100 tests if he plays until England tour of SA next summer. A good 2 or 3 more years gives him 500 wickets. He deserves it.

Looks like number of Pak A series did him good.

Agreed but he might gonna have such dissmisals in future as well. That is how he plays and is at his best this way.

Yes looked ugly with this shot but bcz he can change the game in the favor of his team on his day, so either we have him with his strengths and weaknesses or we dont have him. Personally I would take a game changer any day.

I think we are talking past each other.

Having an attacking minded batsman in your side is great, and you are right you have to take the rough with the smooth. But that isn't what happened here.

The best players learn to read the match situation and adapt accordingly.

Fakhar had done the hard work. He had played ugly but most importantly had survived a very testing period. Having done that he should have looked at the match situation:

South Africa were on the back foot and desperate for a wicket. Runs were beginning to leak, largely thanks to Imam's efforts.

So the last thing you do is gift your wicket away, especially when you have been struggling to find the middle of the bat. It's no good saying that's how he plays. You earn the right to play like that and the best players adapt according to the match situation.

I like Fakhar so you don't need to convince me on that, but his dismissal today was poor. I'm sure Mickey will be saying something similar, but more importantly I think Fakhar already knows and would agree.

He deserves to be ahead of Anderson, if anything, who himself is a great bowler.

He deserves it. But, I think Rabada is the one who might break many records as is still very young and already is eying 200 wickets.

Totally, cant agree more.

I was just saying that with an agressive mindset especially when you are new to test level such dismissals can happen. It was just his 2nd test, hopefully he will improve on it.

These leaves from Imam to deliveries outside off stump is as important as some of his strokeplay. Impressed with his discipline so far.

Fully expect him to insha'Allah. He is a very hard worker and eager to learn.

I so wish we could produce a unit of a guy like Rabada to bowl heat for us!

What a range of emotions i’ve had to go through over the last two days.

If Shafiq fails in this innings, I would drop him for Haris.

Perfect opportunity for these two to get a big partnership going. You won't find a good batting situations in this test

Well done Imam. Got some luck with the drop catch but he's made the most of it and you need a little luck against such a high quality bowling attack.

What is your issue here man? The guy is fighting for Pakistan, not for himself!

Next 2 Matches + 2 more test Series...... he will haunt us......
Did you forget his performance in last test series against NZ??

They’ll bring a part timer after Rabada or if they get till tea, then in the last part of the day.

Greame Smith saying big things for the current situation.

"as a batter you fail more than you succeed"

I would rather guys haunt us after scoring against South Africa in South Africa than by filling their boots against Zimbabwe (Khurram Manzoor) or Sri Lanka (Hafeez)

I think the clear swap is Fakhar for Harris. Masood opens and Harris at 3

Fakhar is worth the investment especially given the fact he's the only opener who bats at a good tempo. Dropping him after one bad game is cruel after such a good debut test.

In Asia he's a certainty given that he is the best Pakistani against spin.

Props on those who spotted Shan playing well in the first innings

Amazing what a little bit of intent does.

Haris’s test career is toast

Shan looks a diff player, has he been scoring heavily in domestics? Like with Amir it’s good to see to the improvement..

Not stating a view as to who should be dropped, but FYI both Imam and Shan have batted at a better tempo than Fakhar this test.

I was amazed to see Shan Masood in the 1st Innings. Looks a totally different batsman now. No wonder his list A runs weren't fluke

Fakhar has a 60+ SR in FC cricket and has the best stats of all the openers.

If i have a choice i will drop Shafiq and put Fakhar at # 6.

Have seen enough of Asad and he has disappointed 90% of the time.

Realistically then they should play the same team or have Fakhar bat at 5/6 once Shafiq is dropped.
