Here are some things that the anti PCB brigade will put a blind eye over:

1. The PCB hired EY to do a valuation assessment of the current franchises and the PSL brand in order to present the valuation for the current owners to buy at a 25% on top rate…first right of buy goes to the current owners and if they refuse, the franchise goes into auction.

-EY have been trying to get in touch with Ali Tareen/Multan Sultans to get accounts and Data relevant to their assessment so that they can finish their process.

+Multan Sultans/Ali Tareen has not responded to any of EY’s calls or emails. They even tried different numbers to call from to see if Tareen and Co. Respond….all efforts unsuccessful.

-whilst knowing that EY are on the case of all Franchises, Ali Tareen instead has been going on all of these talk shows, Twitter, podcasts etc. and has been making all sorts of disrespectful comments towards the PCB/PSL committee.

Insiders believe that Ali Tareen is doing his best to devalue the league+Franchises as much as he can so that the EY valuation is far less than what it should be, and therefore he has a complete free shot at purchasing a below value Multan Franchise. Plain and simple!

The PCB can see through this charade and have therefore simply decided to part ways with Tareen. They will put the Sultan’s franchise up for sale at the market value determined by EY using whatever data they have through the PSL committee and other franchises.

What are Sultans hiding in their accounts?!! Why are they not sharing them???

PCB is now considering doing away with payments of Franchise Fees and Salaries in USD and switching to PKR. Pakistani Franchise owners will definitely be happy with this, not sure about the foreign players and staff.

AI translation of the Urdu release on Twitter

“Only eligible teams from the current ones will be able to participate in the new bidding”

This part basically means Tareens will not be included

Well I think one thing is for sure. The PCB don’t look like a modern professional outfit that can resolve disputes the proper way and Ali Tareen is an investor that just can’t work with the current lot. It’s just got to be a parting of ways plain and simple but the PCB needs to get its act together

So it sounds like the lease system will remain.

Honestly, it blows my mind that this system exists and will continue to exist. Why would any owner invest money into the team if you are just going to be a care taker at the end of the day and PCB can take it away from you if they don't like you or what you have to say. I don't think PSL will ever see true growth until this leasing system is removed.

Why would foreign players and staff feel otherwise?

They will get paid each year whatever amount is setup for that year's PSL

Tareen continues

That’s not important. It’s not about individual investors or the administrators. That’s exactly the blame game that should be avoided. Conflict like this in public undermines PSL as a whole. If you say Tareen wishes to undermine the PCB then they are giving him exactly what he wants. In actual fact the PCB should have systems in place that increase brand value and minimise conflict.

Salman Naseer latest interview regarding the PSL. He is being interviewed by the General Manager Hijab Zahid i.e. his subordinate. Why not bring in a tough neutral sports reporter who will ask independent questions to do the interview?
Still Salman answered well.

Given the circumstances and what Pakistan Cricket and the country has went through this past decade. I think Salman has done a decent job with PSL.

I think he could have done a lot better. The PCB and PSL administration has to answer for the declining crowd attendance in Karachi and even in Punjab, the shambolic draft, the lack of marketing/hype, plans to compete with competing T-20 leagues, the stagnation that is happening in the league, no interviews or press conferences have been given in this regards. The PSL administration needs a full time independent CEO who can dedicate himself full time to the PSL affairs.

Ali Tareen behaved like a goon but PCB is the bigger goon and needs to be aligned. In this fight I am supporting the small goon.

I’ve always found Ali Tareen a bit of a clown at times and have often criticized him for going overboard with his Twitter and social media posts. But to be fair, I’ve always had respect for Multan Sultans as a franchise. They’ve consistently been one of the top teams in the PSL over the years, supported quality coaching staff, given opportunities to female coaches, and genuinely tried to promote the league in a positive way.

On the other hand, the PCB continues to be an absolute joke of an organization. Sending a legal notice to one of the PSL team owners is a ridiculous way to handle things. Naqvi’s ego is out of control, he behaves like a dictator who can’t stand criticism and will go to any length to punish those who don’t fall in line. He expects everyone to suck up to him and treat him as if he’s above the players, owners, or anyone else associated with the board.

This legal notice shouldn’t have been sent. There were better, more professional ways to deal with the situation. The whole episode makes the PSL look bad, imagine an owner being threatened or terminated just for speaking out against the PCB’s poor decisions. I’m fully siding with Ali Tareen here, or honestly, with anyone who has the courage to call out this farcical board for what it really is.

Multan Sultans golden run in the PSL had nothing to do with Ali Tareen and more to do with his late uncle Alamgir Tareen. The two seasons where Ali Tareen played a key role, Multan Sultans have had their worst seasons.

Story probably as old as time. Selfish interests of ego- fuelled fools collide, and are presented as matters of principle.

While some of us feel compelled to take sides.

And who knows there may even be something good to emerge at the end.

“I’m giving you breaking news: Multan Sultans haven’t paid their fees, so the PCB is terminating their contract.
This goes back to 2018 when a friend told me about it. I reached out to other sources and found out that the owners were stunned by the hefty fees. They had bought the team in a rush for $5.2 million annually, but now they realized it was a massive loss-making deal. So, they wanted to back out. I contacted an official from the Sultans, and their response confirmed the news was accurate, though it seemed they didn’t want it publicized at that moment or perhaps wanted to spin it their way. Anyway, I didn’t hold back and broke the news, which caused a storm in cricket circles. The board immediately issued a press release announcing the termination of the contract. After that, a new party bought the team, and things got back on track. I learned from my sources that Multan Sultans’ contract is about to be terminated again, and the PCB has already issued a notice. I broke the news, and what happened next is in front of you. The real damage from this controversy is to the PSL and Pakistan cricket, and the board’s shortcomings are also to blame. They need to make serious efforts to make the league a big brand. The flaws that have come to light should be addressed. They should create a permanent PSL team that isn’t affected by changes in the board, and operations should continue seamlessly. Initially, this fight seemed staged, but now it’s clear it’s not. The question now is, with six franchises in the PSL, why is it always Multan Sultans that faces a crisis? The main reason is the exorbitant fees. If you combine the fees of the other four existing franchises, they barely match Multan’s. But the question arises: why didn’t the Tareen family learn from the Shaun Properties case? How did they buy a team deemed a terrible mistake at $5.2 million for $6.35 million? Thank goodness former chairman Ramiz Raja locked the dollar rate at 170.5 a few years ago. Imagine what would’ve happened if they had to pay at today’s rate of 283. Even if someone has the wealth of Qarun, they spend money wisely. If you have a billionaire friend, try asking them for a loan of a few lakh rupees—they’ll tell you such a sob story about their own crises that you’ll feel sad and think about giving *them* money instead. Why would a big businessman make a loss-making deal? In the case of Multan Sultans, it might have been about ego initially. Rumors started circulating in the market that another party also wanted to buy the team, possibly a rival. At that time, they decided to acquire the team at any cost. Later, they realized they played the wrong shot. As long as Alamgir Tareen was alive, things kept moving. Initially, Ali was with his uncle, but later some issues arose, and the matter escalated. He then distanced himself from the franchise. After Alamgir Tareen’s passing, Ali Tareen became the owner again. Before the tenth edition, he started saying things about the PSL that the authorities didn’t like. The issue escalated from a podcast to tweets. His relationship with CEO Salman Naseer doesn’t seem cordial either. They also hired an official who was previously associated with Multan Sultans, which further soured relations. The PSL bore the brunt of these issues. Matters that should’ve been discussed in a conference room were being aired on public platforms. If you look at the reality, some of Ali Tareen’s points weren’t wrong. Truly, 1/2

The league's affairs are facing delays, and there is significant room for improvement as well. However, as stakeholders, they should have used the appropriate platform. At times, the choice of words was not befitting either. It would have been better if these suggestions were given in meetings. If the shortcomings had been pointed out behind closed doors, the matter would not have escalated to this point. At a time when the PSL's valuation was ongoing, franchise agreements were about to be renewed, two new teams were to be added, and new sponsorship and broadcast deals were in the works, you have devalued the PSL yourself and spared no effort in bringing it down to the level of the Bangladesh and Sri Lanka leagues. The board says that the Sultans' intention was precisely this, so they could reacquire the team at a lower fee during rebidding, but was it necessary to create such a spectacle for this? Ali Tareen says that the board should invite him for tea and discuss matters, while sarcastically tearing up the notice. If it were Najam Sethi or Zaka Ashraf in front of him, perhaps the tactic might have worked, but can they pressure someone as powerful as Mohsin Naqvi in this manner? Some people say that Ali Tareen did not gain as much fame from the PSL as he has from this controversy. His video has already been viewed by millions. Before the next election, his political profile has been established, but our public's memory is weak—will they even remember all this by then? Look at the coverage by Indian media; it has defamed Pakistan by reporting on this conflict extensively. Now, if the Sultans' agreement is terminated and Ali Tareen is banned, he will present himself as a messiah of Pakistan cricket who has been wronged. However, the real issue is about the fees. Let's see whether the conflict escalates further or if influential political figures mediate a resolution. I tried to contact Ali Tareen to understand his perspective beyond the videos and tweets, but he did not respond to the message. He believes the board leaked the news through me, otherwise, no one would have known about the notice for a month. Interestingly, a few days ago, when I pointed out the delays and shortcomings in PSL affairs, a top league official said that Ali Tareen had planted that news. Well, now let's see which way the camel sits. By tearing up the notice in Shah Rukh Khan's style, Ali Tareen may have increased his followers, but he has certainly closed the doors for a comeback. Now, only a heavyweight figure can break open the door to facilitate his re-entry. 2/2”

Dont know if Ali Tareen is right or not however I am sure PCB is not right in any of the decisions that they have taken for the past 2 years or so. They are running the affairs like clowns

Cant take sides. Both are acting as clowns in their own places.
How have the PCB or PSL committee acted like clowns can you elaborate?

You are placing Tareen and PCB on equal footing. So what has the PCB done in comparison to Tareen for this equality in your perspective?

A bigger problem can arise if PCB terminates MS contract. Tareen family can take them to court and it may affect PSL in coming years

Courts in a establishment and PDM controlled judicial system in Pakistan? Do you seriously think that will work out in Ali Tareens favour?

True, but its a clash of egos, nothing more, saying that PCB/PSL has more to lose, legally they might get a decision in their favor but at what cost, if this goes down this path, Ali Tareen will probably take a big hit financially, but I believe PSL brand would lose more in terms of their credibility/reputation with their fans and international markets, and with the rebidding coming up soon, those valuations will also take a hit

Sultans are apparently threatening the PCB with dire consequences via negative media and social media campaigns against the PCB, PSL if the PCB terminates their franchise and that this firefight will result in devaluing the league.
