Pakistan defeat Zimbabwe by an innings and 147 runs in the 2nd Test and win series by a 2-0 margin

Theres still so much time left in this match..Pakistan could have batted for a couple of sessions and played it safe. I hope Zimbabwe don't end up getting a lead here and Pakistan have to bat on the final day.

Zero subr, chill out after these guys it's nobody to come.

I don’t know why hasan ali is getting so excited after these performances vs Zimbabwe. His over the top celebration after getting these unknown Zimbabwean players out is just embarrassing and cringe. Maybe if he was getting top class players out you’d understand why he’s pumped up but this is Zimbabwe for gods sake. When he starts getting tonked around vs better teams and comes back like this we’ll find out exactly what level he’s at. Yes he’s done well but everyone’s hyping him up as if he’s performed vs Aus in aus or vs eng in eng. Any other team would’ve rested hasan after his performance in the first test to give a chance to the younger guys in the squad so they know their bench strength but this management is so clueless and incompetent. After the first test an innings victory is on the cards for the 2nd test so why not try out the younger guys. They’d still win comfortably with Shaheen and the spinners and they could try out their options for future combination planning and backups in case of injuries. I’m afraid all this coward Misbah management wants is thumping victories vs Zimbabwe so they don’t get criticised one bit and fans forget the terrible performance from Pakistan in the t20is.

Pretty much agreed..we have gonr backwards. We dont look an international team. I guess misbah must be proud of the unbeaten run this year...

Good to see some fightback fro. Zimbabwe and sensible batting. This is also good for Pakistani bowlers experience to learn to fight out tougher sessions.

Pakistan won't have to bat again, but at least Zimbabwe are injecting some excitement into this game.

Lol! Hasan’s face while run up to ball at Jongwe deserves a smiley of its own.

Hassan really getting riled up by Zimbabwean Test debutant Luke Jongwe....

Certain posters want players to tone down excitement of playing test cricket because opposition is Zimbabwe. If the guys are enjoying their sport, not sure whats wrong with it.

My guess is the new generation of fans are not used to it.

This has always been part of Test cricket. If anything this was the norm 20 years ago, it’s only toned down recently because of 20/20 cricket where all the players mingle with each other and want to be buddies.

Another wicket for Baba.

This will easily end by Lunch time tomorrow.

Brilliant catch. Not sure why he is celebrating though, as its Zimbabwe (One of the only 12 test cricket playing nations of the world), everyone should be a statue on the field. :smith

Wow, Imran Butt really is a gun slip fielder.

Pretty much and its an important part of any sport as far as it is in limits. Sports are meant to create that adrenaline rush for the players as well as the viewers and bit of mini contests and aggression on the field just adds to it.

Anyone who has played any sort of sport realizes that when you are into the game, you heart rate is up its natural to have that adrenaline rush going. It doesnt matter who the opposition is, a fast bowler running in and bowling will have that natural rush going and at that moment its all about that mini battle rather than thinking about the player and opposition.

You always play Baba on the front foot, poor from Tripano.

Nauman has a chance for his 2nd test 5fer here

That was Nauman’s 300th FC wicket. As I was typing he gets a 5fer and 301st test wicket

Nauman has responded really well to getting hit during that Taylor-Chakabva partnership. Good bowling.

Bowled a crap ball which got rightfully hit for a boundary and then has the nerve to show aakar

If he is not allowed to show aakar after having 5, 5, 4, 5, 5 wickets in his past innings because he was hit for a boundary than nobody ever deserves to show aakar. :smith

Good comeback from Nauman after getting spanked by Taylor and Chakabva earlier in the day.

Extension of Misbah's contracted will be another 3 years coming up.

Stumps can’t believe it, Zimbabwe should’ve just gifted the last wicket. This will be over in 5 mins tomorrow I bet.

Not watching live but seems strange they wouldn't continue until conclusion unless the light was bad.

Yea light was bad, but had I been Zimbabwe I would’ve just deliberately given my wicket away. No sense coming back tomorrow for a game that is more or less concluded, 10 mins and tomorrow is finished.

Really upset for Tabish, honestly wanted him to do well.

Umpires extended the game for half an hour and Babar was asked to bowl spinners from both ends until it was too dark. Sunset was 20 minutes away when they called it a day.

Five-wicket hauls from Hasan Ali and Nauman Ali in each innings, along with Shaheen Afridi's four-for, helped Pakistan to the brink of a series win against Zimbabwe on Sunday (9 May).

Pakistan's bowling attack overwhelmed the Zimbabwe batters who narrowly avoided getting bowled out twice on the same day. They went into stumps at 220/9 in their second innings, a deficit of 158, with Pakistan needing just a wicket on the fourth morning to secure the series victory.

Zimbabwe began the day at 52/4 in their first innings, but were shot out for 132, with Hasan Ali returning a career-best 5/27.

Hasan had the overnight Tendai Chisoro snuffed out in the very first over of the day. The wicket triggered an implosion, and Zimbabwe’s lower middle-order scrapped to push the total to 132, thanks largely to 23 and 19 from Donald Tiripano and Luke Jongwo respectively.

Zimbabwe were asked to bat again after the break, with Pakistan boasting a lead of 378. The hosts put up a better batting display this time around, although they got off to an unfortunate start, losing Tarisai Musakanda (8).

The hosts decided to take on a more aggressive approach thereafter, mindful that being bogged down in defence only helped Pakistan build pressure. Zimbabwe purposefully counter-attacked thereafter, and had their best spell of the match.

Kevin Kasuza and Chakabva stitched together a 50-run partnership for the second wicket, although they failed to build on that start – Nauman Ali knocked over Kasuza’s middle stump to send him back for 22.

Despite that, Zimbabwe powered on. They scored 98 runs in 27 overs in the second session, losing two wickets in the process. Chakabva and captain Brendan Taylor had resisted Pakistan in the latter half of the afternoon.

The pair revived the Zimbabwe innings with Taylor taking an aggressive approach. The aerial route was one that was frequented as Chakabva and Taylor stitched together a 79-run partnership off just 90 deliveries.

Taylor fell a run short of a half-century, however, although his attacking knock – at a blazing strike rate of 158.06 – had given Zimbabwe something to build on.

Chakabva looked to nurse the innings back to health after Taylor's fall, and fought his way to a 137-ball 80 – however, there was to be no century as Nauman got his second of the innings. There ended Pakistan's resistance.

From 170-3, the hosts were reduced to 205/9, losing six wickets for just 35 runs. Nauman and Afridi skittled out the middle and lower order, sharing nine wickets between them, and despite the session being extended, play was only stopped when the umpires adjudged the shadows had grown too long.

Jongwe, battling on an unbeaten 31*, had delayed Pakistan their final, series-clinching wicket, but the visitors will be hopeful of wrapping it up early on the fourth morning.

Like I said yesterday Zimbabwe were doomed once Pak went past 400.

It will be over by tomorrow but a good chance it could be today.

Zimbabwe were doomed before the game even started. We should have given a chance to Saud Shakeel.

PAK 510/8 d
ZIM 132 & 231 (f/o)
Pakistan won by an innings and 147 runs

Brendan Taylor | Zimbabwe captain:
I would have liked a few more positives. We were a little bit off the mark, particularly with the batting. I can't fault the guys's effort, it's a young side. They are very disciplined bowling side, I tried to take the attack to them.

Hasan Ali | Man of the Series:
It's been a good tour for me. The pitch wasn't good to bowl. The plan was simple, keep bowling stump to stump. I want to thank others bowlers too who supported me. Shaheen and Nauman bowled well. I am very happy, I worked hard in the last one year. Looking forward to win more matches for my team.

Abid Ali, Man of the Match:
My plan was to initially to have a partnership with Azhar bhai. The wicket was a little slow and we decided we need to take our time. I was committed to stay till the end. I have been practicing very hard for the last two three months. Obviously, it means a lot for me and family to get a double ton. I worked hard with the coaches at NHPC. I wanted to score long. I had some self belief after getting a fifty in the first Test.

Dominant Pakistan crush Zimbabwe to sweep Test series 2-0

Shaheen Afridi completed his five-for as Pakistan dominated the Zimbabwe tour with a sweeping Test series victory.

Scorecard

Trailing behind by 158 runs, Zimbabwe’s final pair, Luke Jongwe, and Blessing Muzarabani resisted 61 deliveries. Only one wicket away, Babar Azam deployed Shaheen Afridi, who was famished for the final wicket to complete his five-wicket haul. Shaheen snared the prized wicket of Jongwe (37) as the batter edged the ball to the keeper.

Exploits from the Pakistan bowlers on the third day that cemented the foundations saw the fall of 15 wickets across the two Zimbabwe innings, brought the visitors on the brink of a sweeping series victory ahead of day four.

Pakistan win the series 2-0

They pick up the final wicket of Luke Jongwe to register a victory by an innings and 147 runs against Zimbabwe in the second Test.

The visitors created a record in the process, it was the first instance for three bowlers to pick up a five-for each in the same Test for Pakistan. The visitors clinched the series comprehensively with a 2-0 win – defeating Zimbabwe by an innings on both occasions. Abid Ali was awarded Player of the Match for his double ton while Hasan Ali was graced with Player of the Series for picking 14 wickets and two five-wicket hauls across the two Tests.

Well played guys, an efficient job. A shame about a couple of the selections which sadly underline a lack of planning and vision but outclassed a weak opponent like we should.

Should of course wipe the floor with them at full strength so unfortunate that they were missing 3 first choice batsmen, but you can only deal with what’s put in front of you,

Clinical performances , t20 had some problems more to do with the slow wicket and large boundaries batsmen were unable to time it.

But other than that alongside the South african tour this has been a successful tour of Africa and team has performed well both in South africa and zimbabwe both with red ball and white ball.

Pakistan Cricket Board has congratulated the Pakistan men’s cricket team on their sixth consecutive series win and Babar Azam, who has become the first Pakistan captain to win his opening four Tests.

Pakistan defeated South Africa in Tests and T20Is at home earlier this year and then won the T20I and ODI series in the return series before wrapping up the African safari with T20I and Test series wins in Harare.

This is the sixth time when Pakistan have won six or more series on the trot. Pakistan won 13 straight series in 2011-12, nine consecutive series in 2015-16, eight successive series in 2001-02 and six straight series in 1993-94 and 2017-18.

Babar followed his two home Test wins against South Africa with victories by innings margins in Harare. The number-one ranked ODI batsman will now have a chance to get back to his run-scoring form in red-ball cricket when he captains Pakistan against the West Indies (two Tests) and Bangladesh (two Tests) in August and September, respectively.

The tour to Africa also brought the curtains down on the side’s 2020-21 international commitments during which they played nine Tests, six ODIs and 19 T20Is in the 10-month period under unprecedented Covid-19 restrictions and protocols.

During this period, Pakistan has climbed to fifth in the ICC Test Team Rankings, their highest since 2017; presently occupies second place behind England on the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Super League; and has retained fourth position in the T20Is.

PCB Chairman Ehsan Mani congratulated the side on the successful Africa tour and also thanked the players and support staff for enduring the tough and demanding Covid-19 protocols to fulfill their Future Tours Programme commitments that ensured the fans remained connected with the sport.

Ehsan Mani said: “On behalf of the Pakistan cricket fans, I want to congratulate the Pakistan men’s cricket team on completing successful tours of South Africa and Zimbabwe.

“The young and talented side through their performances under a blossoming and skillful captain and a committed and knowledgeable backroom staff have shown they are heading in the right direction. Nonetheless, a lot of work still needs to be done if they have to achieve their objective of featuring in the top-three across all formats by 2023.

“Winning six straight series during the Covid-19 pandemic only for the sixth time in our proud cricket history is a huge achievement and reflects how challenging and difficult it has been to perform consistently at the highest level. But, if we aspire to become world-beaters and want to match our great sides of the past, then we have to continuously raise the quality of our cricket so that we can excel and succeed against all oppositions and, more importantly, against the leading sides on their turfs.

“I want to especially thank each and every member of the squad for standing up to the rigours and demands of the unprecedented Covid-19 restrictions. It has not been easy for the players to remain in confinements away from their families and friends for extended periods and yet expected to perform each time they have stepped on to the field.

“We have recently seen the impact of bio-secure environments on some international cricketers, but our players have shown tremendous resilience, mental toughness and focus during the past 10 months in which they clearly developed team unity and harmony that also helped them in their on-field performances.

“I have always emphasised and highlighted on the importance of uninterrupted development and growth of this great sport. In this context, I am pleased that our side has been a front-runner in the past 12 months by showing that cricket can thrive and progress even in these difficult and unusual times. Our tours to South Africa and Zimbabwe are a case in point.

“As one successful season ends, a quest for the next begins. I hope our team will be able to successfully translate their learning and experiences in the coming season, which will be more challenging with higher expectations but bigger rewards.”

Pakistan’s next international assignment is three Super League ODIs and three T20Is against England from 8-20 July, followed by the tour to the West Indies.

Zimbabwe captain Brendan Taylor has received an official reprimand for breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct during the third day of the second Test against Pakistan in Harare.

Taylor was found to have breached Article 2.8 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to “showing dissent at an Umpire’s decision during an International Match.”

In addition to this, one demerit point has been added to the disciplinary record of Taylor, for whom it was the second offence in a 24-month period, taking his cumulative demerit points to two.

The incident occurred in the 37th over of Zimbabwe’s second innings on Sunday, when Taylor, on being adjudged caught behind, showed dissent at the umpire’s decision by pointing to his thigh pad and holding his head.

Taylor admitted the offence and accepted the sanction proposed by Andy Pycroft of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees and ratified by the ICC Cricket Operations department as per the COVID-19 interim playing regulations. There was no need for a formal hearing.

On-field umpires Marais Erasmus and Langton Rusere, third umpire Iknow Chabi and fourth official Forster Mutizwa levelled the charge.
Level 1 breaches carry a minimum penalty of an official reprimand, a maximum penalty of 50 per cent of a player’s match fee, and one or two demerit points.
