What's new

Pakistan end Day 1 of the 2nd Test on 207/4 with Azhar Ali (81) and Haris Sohail (81*)

Well if you take this amount of time to get set then you have a responsibility to go on to score a hundred.

The problem with playing so slow is that in UAE, when one wicket falls it is usually followed by another. So 150/2 could very quickly be 150/4 or 150/5 and then you're nowhere.

English batsmen in Sri Lanka hardly had a partnership of more than 30 overs but they played quickly which meant a score of 300 oor more every time.

*we will not repeat the mistakes made in the 1st test*

These players making these statements is an insult to people watching the game.

All you need now is Sarfraz getting out to the sweep, Bilal playing across the line and Hasan ali slogging it straight to the only boundary rider

Dont explain clear logic to some posters on here they wont understand. Its fine to bat at snails pace and lose a few wickets. Its "test cricket" as some moderators have posted here.

Azhar's fault. Haris would have been gone if he had responded to the call. The ball raced to Sothee.

Azhar is a poor runner. 3 time in 3 matches now.

Losing wickets through runouts in tests multiple times on cruicial occasions is an unpardonable offense

One of the most pathetic team I have ever seen, useless batsman, I will rather take current afridi over some of these, bored to death and then get out.
Bored to death
Out
Repeat

Azhar will never learn because he is too old to teach basic as a batsman. He keep same mistake again and again.

Our batting line is rotten!!! Keep 1 or 2 player and do wholesome change. Start with Azhar.

This team will be whitewashd by SA in 3 days. Tuktuking in fast bowling pitch will not work at all. Our players will score 50 in 30 overs loosing 4-5 wickets.

When you have two batsmen at the top of the order not pulling their weight, then losing Azhar or any of these middle-order batsmen becomes more damaging.

Haris needs to kick on and score a hundred, with fifties at least from Shafiq and Babar.

Are they playing for draw?

They somehow want to reach 350 - 400 mark around somewhere in the 2nd day and then get NZ out max around 300 by the mid- end of 3rd day. Then bat around day or so and adding around 250 runs and then leaving it for the last 90-120 odd overs to get the NZ batting unit out. That turned out to be a draw against aussies in 1st match.

So unless we get NZ out for 200 odd after getting 300 odd, this might again be a race against time finish for Pak if Pak has the upperhand and they want to win it.

Thats some smart batting by Asad, knew it would be slightly fuller as before he bowled a loose short ball.

Such overs can be created by batsmen if they try disrupting the length of the spinners. Using your feet, making bowlers bowl a little back the getting back in the crease. Younus used to do it for fun, those mind games with spinners.

Groundhog Day openers useless Azar can’t construct a innings to save his life Shafiq quick 30 then will gift his wckt away, Sarfaraz & tail useless.

These guys have played thatv1 test match over & over again.

Sarfaraz’s partnership with Fakhar in 2nd test against Aussies was a match winning one. Babar is also there.

60 of 211 balls? Yes wicket isnt easy to bat on but atleast 40-50 SR should be managed on the first day on any wicket.

Wont mind it if he coverts it into a big score and up the anti a bit for those runs.

Decent score. I think the boys should defend for the rest of the day and get to 190-3, tomorrow if they bat sensibly they could conservatively cross the psychological mark of 300.

Need a couple of decent partnerships for 300. Theoretically very much should be on cards but considering the recent collapses of Aussies, NZ and Pakistan, cant say anything for sure.

Now looks like we need someone else to grind it with haris and get to a decent score

Why do our batters have the most brain farts.

That Shafiq shot was truely inexcusable

The run out and then this mindless slog

asad 'king of soft runs' shafiq. this guy will never win you a test match on his own even if he gets to play a 100 tests

Poor batting by Harris too slow as if it was day 5

I agree but then again looking at the way pitch is behaving, some turning, some not and some bouncing it isnt easy to score especially when bowl is also coming pretty slow though SR of 40 to 50 should still be managed.

Pathetic team that cant pace individual or team inns together. Time for cancerous seniors + imam to get boot from the team.

No seniors no imam and no Haris as he according to many batting like a no 11 batsmen would mean we will have to change all the batsmen except Babar. And of course need to get rid of the awful wicketkeeper batsman as well. Seems like good plan! (Replying to AJ)

Pretty brainlessvby Shafiq.

Intent was to put Ajaz under pressure though too late for putting any pressure considering it was the end of the day while the execution was also horrible.

Fakhar is needed for the tests in UAE especially with Hafeez not firing wgo atleast bats with decent pace. Fakhar if he would have batted 50, 60 overs could have scored a lot more runs and such sessions in UAE make a bug difference.

One question for Asad Shafiq when are "we" going to score hundreds and 150s again?

Again? Asad has never scored a 150 himself :najam

Well in his last interview he said the reason for defeat is that "we" aren't scoring hundreds and 150s like we used to. Hence the follow up question after today's innings.

Haris and Babar are two most complete batsmen we have in the team. If we can get one more player of their calibre and all 3 can bat for a couple of years in tests and ODIs we will be looking at an impressive batting unit in couple lt years.

Yes I know and that is why I find this irony to be funny. He himself is yet to score 150 after playing tons of matches and only Azhar and Hafeez have those 150 above scores in the team while others like Babar, Haris and Imam are new. What was he expecting?

Our team management is probably the worst. Babar Azam has been the best test batsman for Pakistan this year. 50 average. And he's sent at number 6. He should be batting at 4 all day long. It's incredible how poor our team management is.

We really need educated people who can critically think in our team setup. Sarfraz still thinks he's playing in Nazimabad.

Lol epic tuk tuk today. Batsmen should dedicate this one to Misbah.

That is where a selector’s and coach’s eye need to come in, there is a gulf of difference in the class of Babar, Haris and the rest of the lot.

They need to go to the first class matches to find such potential. Stats cant tell you that.

Babar looking in goos touch, am sure he will be run out at somepoint as usual.

Then they will only see classy players like Shafiq, Amin who choke when things get difficult while gritty 50+ averaging players like Fawad Alam, Saad Ali get ignored

Yeah pretty ridiculous babar is batting so long. Yes he has not really delivered yet in Test but he is arguably our most talented batter since Mohammed yousuf and needs to be batting higher

This thread has been a pleasure to follow just for the wrist slitting mania from Amjid Javed :))) :)))

Babar averaged in high 20s in FC when he debuted for Pak. Yes his test record isnt great as of now but you can already see the potential.

Babar was pathetic at #3, but ever since he's been playing at 5-6, he's played really well.

I think the management is right to play Babar at 6. He batted at 3 in Australia and failed miserably . By batting him at 6 he is now getting more accustomed to test cricket. He is yet to score a 100 but his confidence is now much more higher in test cricket than it was after the Australia tour , so if he does get promoted again hopefully he will be “mentally “ ready .
