What's new

Pakistan end Day 3 on a second innings score of 129/6, with a lead of 200

Not a bad recovery. Pak should just open with Babar and Azhar, add Kamran and Saud in the middle order

Bit of trouble here,

Desperately need a hundred run Partnership.

Babar out to Maharaj, LBW again.

Same repetitive mistake, not watching the ball from the hand, and not committing to the front foot, allowing the ball to move past the bat.

He needs to get to the pitch of the ball, his technique against RA off spinners is fine but against LA off spinners, he needs to be mindful of the straighter one.

Younis Khan has a job to do.

Fawad, Azhar, Rizwan, and Rizwan will have to churn out the runs. The tail will have to fight.

This is where Fawad needs to step up and justify his selection.

I don't understand. They have YK has batting coach but still struggling against spin. Babar is turning into KP of the modern game, unable to play left arm spin

A lot of our middle order batsmen over the years have their fair share of struggles against SLAs. Babar needs to work on this issue of playing with the bat not coming in front of the pad.

46/3 another poor batting effort so far. Someone needs to get a 100 here.

Once again babar falls after an interval. Guy is most overrated player like sarfraz... making maharaj look like warney.... maharaj hi Ki jai ho...

Maharaj possibly clapping for someone in the backroom staff after Babar’s dismissal

I've grown up playing a lot of spin bowling, and I had the same issue as Babar when a few of my friends who bowled LA spin used to do the exact same thing to me.

I'm nowhere near as good as Babar, but it might help in changing the technique against spin. If you're too straight on, the ball spins past the bat, but if you're too angled, the straighter one will be difficult. What I do is try and pat the ball down the second it lands.

However, that's just from personal experience.

The thing with Babar is that he's not pressing forward, he's not committing to the shot. You have to commit to the shot, you have to go to the pitch of the ball. The second you don't reach the pitch of the ball, your edge and your pads are exposed, so it's a technical flaw. Younis Khan used to reach out to meet the ball, because you don't need to worry about a stumping when you've pressed the ball by reaching out. The training Younis Khan gave Babar with the wet tennis ball might have worked temporarily, but it requires a technical shot IMO, either develop the sweep shot or start reaching out for the ball.

You either get properly right forward or stay back. And bat and pad together is dangerous now with DRS.

Needs to work with YK in the nets.

Babars foot movement, use of angles in crease is pretty poor. Planting ur foot in the line of the ball and just poking bat infront is always asking for trouble. YK has a lot of work to do with babar here.

Babar seems to have a kink and a problem against Left Armers. Like KP.
May be talk to Younus or Younus can get him to talk to Rahul Dravid.
Rahul helped KP with this.

Even Ajaz Patel ran through our lineup in UAE. There are enough decent SLAs in Pak but, our batsmen somehow still struggle against them

Yes definitely issues. Babar should be the one taking the initiative by accepting the shortcoming first and talking to Younis and others for the adjustments required.

Pakistan are always having to compensate for a bad selection.

Imran Butt should never have even played. The obvious solution was to promote Azhar Ali to open and introduce Saud Shakeel at 3, which would've helped counter the left arm spinner.

46/3 in 25 overs. If they can't score at 3 RPO in home conditions, then God help these batsmen. Time and again, nobody has the guts to stamp their authority and ultimately they decide they are going block everything until they get out.

Had said earlier that the biggest culprit of the 1st innings was Babar Azam. By virtue of being the best batsman in the team, it was his responsibility to score a big hundred and put SA out of the match there. He didn't as he invariably doesn't in Test cricket. He's clearly a second tier batsman in test cricket. Let's not kid ourselves and think he's part of the big 4.

Only God knows when Fawad will score his next run

We are so, so negative and we deserve all the pressure that is applied on us

Called this out the day before the First Test match began when people were asking for dustbowls.

PAK’s best batsman is not a good player of spin.

Child-like in ability against this stuff now.

Said it when PAK were 30/4 in the First Test, will say it again. PAK’s best batsmen for the conditions are at the helm.

Hope these guys rescue PAK for PAK’s sake.

Less than 200 in 3rd innings and we will loss it. We are poor in every sports except delusion.

Pak batting is just a mess. I can't remember the last time they have taken advantage of a first innings lead against a decent team.

SA shouldn't have a sniff of leveling this series but due to the pathetic batsmen in the team, SA are right back into this.

Cut out the negativity for God’s sake.

We are leading by 120-3.

Not 20-3

Test cricket is a patience game.

We need to get to close of play just 3 wickets some how, need to score runs. Just blocking wont help.

Openers are poor we all know this. But Babar is responsible for this mess. Why you will always out to a half decent spinner.

What he will do against Jadeja?

Almost, Azhar lucky to survive here. Poor shot by someone of his experience against bowler bowling his first ball of the innings

Do us a favour - just copy and paste Mamoon's posts and save your fingers because all you do is parrot his narrative.

Top order is rubbish but our fans so quick to enter wrist slitting mode.

Its definitely not looking easy out there now against spinners now.

Also remember pak tail will struggle this time. SA know they can unsettle the tail with short pitch bowling as none of them looked capable of facing short pitch bowling

Should have been 220-3. Also it was the time top order had delivered. Won't be easy for batsmen to come.

How have SA always had a sub fielder in at silly point/short leg throughout? Who’s been off the field?

I must say one thing though...there is no rough..no spin yet they have played very negative...azar when moving his feet doesnt have a clue looks so ugly..

Paks batting has been poor all test, saving grace is SA have been even worse

Pak should put up a 300 total minimum. As our fielders and DRS will allow two lives to SA batsmen. To be honest SA will not not go down easily if target is anything around 200.

More wickets have been falling with each passing day.

Yep, our openers are useless. Also Babar not capitalizing the momentum has hurt us.

The lead was only 70 odd thanks to our pathetic batsmen in the first innings when we should have put up a good score. Now SA are well in this game. That's why we need a big partnership to have a fight.
