What's new

Pakistan finish Day 1 at 59/2 after bowling New Zealand out for just 153

Genuinely impressed with how Neil Wagner has made a career out of bowling exclusively short pitched stuff, not the tallest or quickest bloke either

Azhar needs to stop being used at number 3, just kills all positive intent with our batting

I think the pitch will ease out tomorrow and will start to take further turn from day 4 only. if Pakistan get a 100 from any of the batmen they will be allright.

Kiwis will give their all-out effort tomorrow morning with semi old ball - if PAK goes to lunch with 4 or less down, should reach 300, 5-6 down by lunch and it's an open game.

Have to give credit to Y. Shah. Not sure many mentioned it here but he lost his mother few weeks ago. Its been a difficult time for him.

That floating armer (last ball), will get many non Asian batsmen completely off guard, even Azhar survived with a hurried block.

Yeah he's bowling very well now. That ball to haris was a peach as well.

Azhar doing a great NWM's job, but if this continues tmro morning, it will add another 50 with NZ's 154.

I pulled an all nighter for a cricket match, first time in a long time.

Can we keep this one thread active for entire game? Day specific thread doesn't keep all the dramas of a test match together.

Lol

What happened here?

Can anyone tell how's the pitch, and why NZ got all out so early?

Not watching.

Combination of quality reverse swing and our spinners bowled well on a pitch that's offering appreciable turn on Day 1.

Bro we do that for matches which dont have so much interest.

In Pakistan games, when threads run into many pages, they become difficult to moderate and also take longer to load.

I see. Technical issues must be considered.

In that case, is it possible to merge 5 threads together with the game ending notes after the end of the Test?

Yooo Hasan123 MMHS SarfiBabarHaris , what's your assessment?

There's reverse swing on offer . Should spin later in the game. If we bat for tomorrow and most of day 3 , we should win.

kindly see pakistan's record in new zealand before making such claims.

You are right. The previous generations did pretty well. But I am taliking about the present generations my dear. PskistanTour of New Zealand 2016: in tests Pakistan lost 2-0 by big margin. In ODIs Pakistan lost 2-0, in T20 Pakistan lost 2-1. Pakistan tour of New Zealand 2018: lost ODIs 5-0, won T20 2-1. There were no tests .

What is a pakistan? A certain Asian paper tiger just lost a test AT HOME vs Zimbabwe:shhh

PAK drew last 2 series IN ENG.
India also has done well in SA.

What I mean is, New Zealand is performing in the same way what Pakistan has performed in NewZealand in last 2 years. Just recall the results of Pakistan tour of New Zealand in 2016 and 2018. If I combine all the results of those tours the results are: Tests- Pakistan lost 0-2, in ODIs- Pakistan lost 0-7 , in T20s its - draw 3-3 . Most of the games Pakisan lost were one sided affairs.
Pakistan didn't win a single test in Australia since 1995( 23 years), never won a single test in SA, didn't win a series in England since 1996. If these are good results for you then I shall say it a minnow mentality

You sure? seem to recall a couple of wins.

Pakistan bowled well rather than NZ playing awful. Every bowler chipped in.

Pitch and reverse swing assisted us a bit. Fielding and captaincy was great too apart from one dropped catch by Yasir.

How bad is Sarfraz that he drop Mir Hamza after only 1 test? Do you agree that he is one of the worst captain for youngsters?

How many youngsters have debuted under Sarfraz and given a long rope like Asif despite not being upto the mark?

Even players like Babar have established themselves under him and Haris will soon too..

And i wont even name Faheems and Fakhars and Shadabs and Hasans and Shaheens and Usmans etc etc

Rahi baat aj ki to it was the correct decision to play Hasan. Reverse swing was key here and Hasan got wickets in last odi with reverse swing and found his form back.

Pakistan have not played at Home since 2009. Out of the ODI series played against NZ since 2009 the majority have been played in NZ. But we have lost two and won one of the last three series played in NZ.

As for Australia, yes we haven't beaten them in a test since 1995 but again we only play them every four years and that is extremely difficult for us.

We have won two test matches in SA and have also drawn a test series there. We were also the fisrt Asian team to beat SA in SA in a ODI series. Come back when you have done something similar.

As for England, they haven't beaten us in a series since 2010. They haven't beaten us away from home since 2001 and they haven't beaten us at home since 2010. This when they had one of the best teams in the world.

omg we lost 1 series in nz. losing in nz this pretty much standard for the rest. sure, we may have lost a few odi series recently, but that is hardly relevant during a test match thread.

results in 1 format do not have a bearing on results in other formats.

PS. get your facts right, pakistan has won 2 tests in south africa, port elizabeth 2007 and durban1998.

Yeah there isnt any better offie than Bilal at the moment. He gets good turn but his pace is a bit low for my liking.

Sarfraz is right now saying the same what you said. Aik jaga ko pakar lai beta :p

And yes Zafar and Irfan (leggie) should also be in the mix.

Your point about Bilal's pace is a valid one.

UAE pitches are unusual in that even though they turn, typically it is slow turn (as compared to say subcontinental pitches). This means finger spinners are always in the game as they tend to bowl quicker than their wristspinning counterparts; we saw this in the Asia Cup where for once it was the finger spinners dominating in the ODIs rather than the wristspinners. All off this would make you think the pitches would suit Bilal. Counter-intuitively, they don't; even though Bilal is an offspinner he is unconventional in that he uses his wrists more than his fingers to spin the ball and tends to flight it more in the longer format.

What I have noticed in tests is he does vary his pace but it seems he is yet to work out his "stock" pace in the UAE. I have seen him bowl in the shorter format (at domestic level) and he tends to bowls a little quicker and the release point is slightly different, which helps him get drift and decent turn (but he doesn't get the ball to drop as much). It might be worth him bowling more like that in the UAE (given the slowness of the pitches) and that has the added advantage of him having more control as that is what he used to bowling (given most of his cricket has been in the shorter format).

Agree with you on Zafar and Irfan.

Don't take it on heart bro, leave these insecure Pakistanis who love to tonk Bangladesh. I as a Pakistani respect BD as a cricketing nation, they are constantly improving in all the formats. You are a good poster , thumbs up to you.

Woah, reverse swing, the good ol' tool of Pak bowlers. It must've been pretty significant if y'all are claiming it was reversing.

Rough grass, pitch, or just some good 'technique'? :sarf

Thanks.

Sorry ,I was wrong about Pakistan's test performance in South Africa. I just forgot that Pakistan won two test matches. But overall Pakistan's record isn't that good against SA. They only won one test series against SA.

Your point about playing every 4 years seems to be valid to me. 4 years is a long long gap. It only reflects failures of PCB to arrange regular tours to Australia. Whatever chances Pakistan got, performed much inferiorly to India though.India has been the best touring subcontinent team to Australia.

As for England it was prestigious indeed to level test series there. But a team of Calibre of Pakistan shouldn't be content with their last series win there back in 1996.

About us, well, BD hasn't reached a level yet to be compared to Pakistan about overall achievement. Hands up

I don't mind at all now about somebody tonking us just to get some cheap pleasure. Let them get it. It happens in a public forum. It's part and parcel of it. Overall PP is a fantastic site for cricket discussion.

Hands up again about that 2 wins in SA. I was wrong about it. I should have recalled it as a follower of Pak cricket .

Azhar played at snail's pace, Even with such a strong position for Pak batsmen they don't seem to have confidence to play a natural game on merit. This ghost of batting collapses is haunting them for 2 decades now. A psycholgist help is needed
