Pakistan finish Day 1 at 59/2 after bowling New Zealand out for just 153

Not sure what NZ tailenders are trying to do. On this turning surface there'll be a ball with their name on it. You'd rather bat positively and get as close to 200 as possible than batting out time.
 
Probably Asad is the best slip fielder in contemporary world, or among top few. Asad, Rahne, Stokes, Ross, Smith, may be Amla and Williamson.

Excellent bowling team effort, now we need to bat really well in 1st inns and look for a very big 1st team total, we dont need to bat like snails like new zealand did as that caused pressure, go out and be positive without being wreckless.
 
Odd innings from Ajaz Patel.

NZ 153 all out - lost 7/42. Superb from Pakistan, need to press home the advantage with the bat.
 
What would be a realistic and desirable 1st innings total for Pakistan on this pitch ?

anything above 300 will a good score..ideally we need to bat once but I think if boult and co attack us we need to get a 150 run lead at least..

350+ would be good. I'd prefer 450 or something because 4th inning on this pitch would be difficult to play. So we should go to play for runs and inning victory.
 
Amir not being missed. Has a lot of work ahead of him to get back into this squad now that honeymoon phase was over.
 
New zealand were 111/3 at one point so shows that the wickets isnt a minefield. Bat positive and take all runs on offer, no snail like blockathons from Azhar just for sake of it.

I can see Kiwi bowlers testing Imam and Azhar out with short stuff in this inns.

All when hafeez bats he tries to be positive early on.
 
Judging by the start so far it looks like Hafeez will be scoring some good runs this series I hope selectors resist the temptation of selecting him for SA tour though he hasn't got technique to score runs in those conditions but he is good in UAE.

He is ROCK SOLID confirmed for SAF tour, and he won't retire either after WC.
 
Imam flashing outside off early in the innings again. Broad got him out in a similar fashion. Just needs to tighten himself up.
 
G'homme was swinging the ball and bringing it back in to left-handers, but still it was a poor shot. Imam's strength isn't stroke play, he should focus on to "Azhar Ali job" as Test opener - that's key to his success.
 
Any reason why Fakhar isn’t playing?

Imam is useless and Hafeez is not the solution long term. Have we really not got any other opening options?

Hafeez just had to survive the new ball and he would've scored a 150 here. Careless from the Pakistani openers here. Letting NZ back into the game needlessly.

I think, both "seniors" will play in 2020 WC.

Can't blame them entirely also - Arthur tried his luck, but youngsters disappointed him. If Imam wasn't nephew, by now one more youngster would have been out of squad, definitely from ODI squad. And, Asif Ali is hanging on to last straw, Talat/Farhan didn't look convincing either.

Man I miss Younis and Misbah. They weren't pretty to watch but they were the rock of our batting.
 
We are opening with 2 jobbers who are gonna get exposed further overseas. One has scoring shots but zero defense skills vs pace. The other has zero scoring shots and shoddy defense.

At least Azhar can hold up one end when he opened.
 
The role Hafeez has been pretending to play for like 35 years now, Haris could have been world class in that role by now, had he been picked at right time. 5-7 years too late and by that time, guy has grown unhealthy appetite, may be one WC is maximum left in him.
 
Already clear on this wicket if your positive with strokes you well get runs and if you just plod or poke you will get out.

Haris is at least putting the bad balls away so far.

I have started watching from 110/3 or so, since then it's like 9/80 :(, so can't tell much yet. But, don't think PAK would like to chase 150+ here.

That floating armer (last ball), will get many non Asian batsmen completely off guard, even Azhar survived with a hurried block.

I think the pitch will ease out tomorrow and will start to take further turn from day 4 only. if Pakistan get a 100 from any of the batmen they will be allright.
