Pakistan finish Day 3 on 137/8 against England, lead by 244 runs

There is a clear bias on who gets praise and who gets criticism on PP. not a single mention of how well Azhar Ali has captained so far?

I think he has been spot on
 
We've been poor since the restart. Need to go back to patient, probing bowling. Hard to do when Yasir is releasing the pressure.
 
50 overs bowled and still no Shadab. What's he in the team for?
 
I dont understand this. Yasir bowling with 3 fielders in the deep so early in his spell
 
Yasir is finished..yet we are playing 2 spinners...i think.shado should have a go they are milking us now so easily

I mean most of the flak he gets is because of his batting
 
Another 30 overs before the new ball, Eng should look to score heavily before then. Take your chances.
 
YS neeeeeds to keep it tight. Pointless to not bowl Shadab assuming he’s been brought in as an all-rounder. SSA needs to have a breather I feel.

That is why it might not be bad idea to rest Naseem for the 2nd test and see how Sohail/Wahab do. Gives you more options as well. He can then come back for the third and key test match.

I am afraid if Naseem keeps playing every test he will get injured for a longer period.
 
The likes of bess, Woakes and Broad will all get 20s and 30s here to take England very close to pak score

His fluke wicket of root means yasir will play the rest of the series and save eng from the pressure created by the seamers
 
Pretty good session of cricket.

Both teams will be okay with their play.

Pakistan needs a couple of quick wickets in the next session and England would want to add another 50-60 runs.
 
Since Jos Buttler was recalled to the Test team, Joe Root is the only England batsman to have faced 100+ balls in an innings more than Buttler.

The only players in the world to pass 100+ balls more often are: Babar, Kohli, Rahane, Pujara, and Root.

Since he's been recalled to the Test team, Jos Buttler averages exactly 50.00 against spin.
 
Should've given Shaheen rest about 20 mins ago, he's struggling now was excellent in 1st hour & half of next hour.
 
24 overs, 67 runs and 1 wicket this session.

Would have been nice to have 2 wickets, will need to bowl really well in the next session to try and get this over.
 
That ends an excellent session of Test cricket - England have added 67 runs for the loss of Ollie Pope. Joe Root will be the happier of the two captains after that, but Pakistan are still in the van.

Didn't Jofra Archer say yesterday that it wasn't a pitch for fast bowling? He reckoned Pakistan bowlers would also struggle on it and looks like he was right.

Could be fatigue as they did bowl a fair bit in the warm up games too among themselves. 17 overs in 2 sessions is a lot too which is not good by the team.

Our players fitness levels are still not as good as professional athletes would be.

Best captaincy by a Pakistan captain in a long time. Very positive cricket. I hope he finds form with the bat though.

Quite surprised by how well England have resisted this morning. Thought they would fold like a deck of cards to be honest. Almost no false strokes played in the entire session. It was only Pope who lost his wicket and that one was more down to the bowler.

He can go upto 145kph and onwards but the thing is you cant have two pacers who are only gonna ball 4 overs or so spells. You cant oush them too much as well as they are still very young. Shaheen’s role is probably to ball decent lines and lengths, swing it and bowl 6-7 overs in a go when required. If it would have been an ODI or T20 you would have seen him pressing more gas.
 
England tail isn't dud. Woakes has a proper AR batting ability. He's just not in form. And Bess, Archer and Broad are all better than Shaheen, Abbas and Naseem with the bat combined. I expect to see at least 70 runs from England's no. 7 to no. 11.

For some reason Buttler always does well against Pakistan.
 
England need to keep the 1st innings Pakistan lead under 50 to stay in the game. Honestly though I think a lead of 100-120 is still much more likely.

Buttler in this situation is the key for Eng, he likes playing against Pak and with tail can try and score quick runs.

Also a big downfall for Pakistan is having 3 seamers in the team, which means that they will be bowling more than 4 over spells at a time maybe sometimes 6-7 in a go. Abbas can bowl 6 in a go but Shaheen and Naseem struggle as they are 85-88mph bowlers.

Lacking a full fast bowling all rounder is hurting Pakistan.
 
No point in having 5th bowler if he isnt gonna ball a single over in first 52 overs of the innings. He could have easily bowled alongside Yasir or Naseem when Shaheen was given a second spell.
 
Buttler has been terrific over the last two innings. That is why you have to keep faith in incredible talents like him.
 
Getting Buttler out will be extremely difficult as he is settled. They need to get Woakes asap to put some pressure on england. Shadab should be given the ball instead of yasir

Same like Shan Masood I guess. Three centuries in a row is not a cheap feat. What is your opinion on his innings?
 
Pakistan should definitely try any other spinner in test from now on. I think Shahdab is good enough for SENA countries but we definitely need another one for tests in Asia & WI

Yup poor captaincy, it is not like as if Yasir is bowling like Warne

Yes fast bowling all rounder could have definitely helped as Pak is more inclined towards bowling pacers and Shadab is yet to ball a single over. Naseem at this pace is only gonna ball 4 overs or so in one go so the other two pacers will have to share the workload which at this age is obviously not easy for Shaheen to do that at full throttle. I think he should keep in late 130s more often but cant blame him for managing his gears.
 
Spinners need to settle down to get the rhythm.. Yasir will eventually get that.. need to be patient. One thing azhar should do is to set fields where batsmen can only score boundaries and no singles can be given.

Good hard fought session of test cricket....wow -need this after all this depressing virus stuff....
somewhow, i see that unless its a session of absolute diamond madness of wickets galore or runs in plenty, its gonna be a draw...will be interesting to watch tthough...
 
I hope England eat the same lunch which they ate yesterday and the day before. :)))
 
Zafar is the ideal option, he can be a decent no 8 for Pakistan as well. Yasir has been pile of garbage so far, infact any domestic performer will be a better option than Yasir
