Pakistan finish Day 3 on 137/8 against England, lead by 244 runs

Would be criminal to let them get to 200. Not saying that’s what we are doing, just want this wrapped so we get to bat under the sun a bit.

it was cause of his opening spell we applied pressure.
Its not always about the number of wickets. Sometimes you add presure by not letting them score runs and keep the ball moving.

Shaheen didnt get the wickets, but he was wonderful.

Missed some in between but not surprising, Pak at average plays 7-8 tests per year pretty much like NZ, SA, WI and Srl. Yes there is probably a year in every 5 years or so with more matches. Only big 3 plays 10 or more each year.

He wasnt much better in urdu either AFAICR. I would second Mamoons point here, its always surprised me that someone with his knowledge, experience, skill of the game has almost no technical insight to offer on the match situation.. Even when hes not reading the scorecard, he only stating the most obvious things about the match situation.
 
I was surprised to see that Yasir Shah averages 30 in Test cricket. Probably because of me following cricket a bit less nowadays and my general ignorance. Whenever he has played against England he has looked superb. (We of course can’t play legspin lol which never helps!)

Really? Hmm, I have only seen him on a few shows like Game on Hai etc or Youtube channels, and he seems to be OK. But he’s not someone who can think graphically with the tech and prompt TV people to use certain graphics for him to make his point, I agree.

There have been a few elite sportsmen who have excelled in their sports without really knowing how. They just did the right thing naturally.

Wasim is probably among those sportsmen.
 
Poor captaincy this time. Shaheen looked tired already yet Azhar brought him in.

Should have been Shadab or Abbas. before Naseem got the final spell.

That's exactly why not every legendary player is a great coach or manager as well.
 
Time for Mamoon to come with with his excuses and theories to downplay Pakistan performance so far.
Went into hiding yesterday and became active again when Butler and Pope were going as he was expecting a big partnership. Won't be surprised he goes into hiding again

That’s history. It should not be relevant to the present.

If Pakistan becomes an elite team and Australia becomes a minnow, would our embarrassing record in Australia have any bearing? Most likely not.

Pakistan is ranked 7th for a reason. We are a genuinely poor side, and we should not be backed to win against a team - in their backyard - that is ranked 3 places above us.

If we do win, well good job, but predictions are not based on what happens afterwards. They are called predictions and not post-dictions.
 
Azhar has given Shadab a life time opportunity - two tailenders in bat swinging mood, I hope he cashed on it.
 
Broad seems to have got his mojo back with the bat this year.

I think theyre both like that.. Truckloads of natural talent and good intuition. Wasim tho had a much better brain whem it came to setting batsmen up with a plan. Also a much better captain.
Which also makes one wonder how Waqar fits into the role of a coach. Someone who was God gifted mostly, i dont know how good is he imparting skill to the newer generation.

Fair enough, but free runs are free runs. Had SSA not bowled a long one we could have used him to bowl yorkers but maybe NS time? Maybe even MA. Just want to maximise the lead, cannot take any runs for granted or the good enough mentality bro :)
 
Wasim’s great insight: Azhar has to decide which fast bowler should bowl now.

But then predicting is very easy! Just look at the past record!

Rather, you don’t really make predictions — you barely ever factor in recent form, the possibility that certain players can improve, or the idea that a Pakistani might actually be a half decent player
