Afghanistan have gone past Sri Lanka to No.8 in the T20I rankings, where Pakistan are still the top team.

Pakistan maintain four-point lead in updated T20I table.England, who last topped the ODI rankings in January 2013 have gained eight points and moved to 125 points.India, who were at the top before the update, have lost a solitary point and are in second place with a total of 122 points. South Africa, who were second, have dropped down to third place after losing four points, from 117 to 113, leaving them nine points.

England have overtaken India to seize the top spot in the MRF Tyres ICC ODI Team Rankings following the annual update while Nepal have rejoined the T20I ratings but will need to play one more match before they are ranked on the MRF Tyres ICC T20I Rankings.

England’s rise up the table is largely because of a forgettable 2014-15 season which saw them winning only seven out of 25 ODIs against other Full Members. The 2014-15 season has been dropped from the latest calculations while those from the 2015-16 and 2016-17 seasons are weighted at 50 per cent.

India have lost one point and are in the second place with 122 points

England, who last topped the ODI rankings in January 2013 have gained eight points and moved to 125 points. India, who were at the top before the update, have lost a solitary point and are in second place with a total of 122 points. South Africa, who were second, have dropped down to third place after losing four points, from 117 to 113, leaving them nine points adrift of India and only one point ahead of fourth- placed New Zealand.

The remaining places remain unchanged, meaning that the current top 10 ranked sides are the ones who will be playing in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019. However, there have been some significant changes in points.

World champions Australia have lost eight points to go down to 104 in fifth position and are only two points ahead of ICC Champions Trophy 2017 winners Pakistan, who have gained six points.

In other changes, Bangladesh (93 points) have gained three points, Sri Lanka (77) have lost seven points, the Windies (69) have lost five points, Afghanistan (63) have gained five points, Zimbabwe (55) have gained four points and 12th-placed Ireland (38) have lost three points.

In the T20I rankings led by Pakistan, there is no change in the top seven places but Afghanistan are now ahead of Sri Lanka in eighth slot.

Pakistan (130) and Australia (126) remain in the first two positions without a change in their points total while India have gained two points to reach 123. New Zealand (116) are unchanged on points while England (115) have gained a solitary point.

Other significant changes on the T20I table see South Africa (114) and the Windies (114) both gain three points with the former ahead on decimals in sixth position, Sri Lanka (85, ninth position) lose four points, Zimbabwe (58, 12th) lose three points, the Netherlands (53, 13th) gain four points, Hong Kong (42, 15th) lose four points and Ireland (33, 17th) lose three points.

So we are basically only two points below Australia in the ranking. Amazing turnaround in ODIs.

Upcoming ODIs against England would be a good contest. Shame there's only 3 matches though because for once there'd be more context to a bilateral ODI series. Top two limited overs side going against each other in the run up to the world cup.

Should be an even contest if Indian selectors get adventurous and jettison the deadwood.

We need to beat Australia and NewZealand this year to leapfrog them by the end of this year in ODIs. I don't give a toss about T20s or it's rankings - They are as pointless as it gets!

Also these upcoming three tests are mightly important because if we somehow erk 2 wins out of three, we'll get a bit of breathing space to gun for a top 5 position by next year hopefully!

Brilliant and a matter of some pride, as Pakistan was'nt in a great situation as back as 2016
when Azhar Ali was captain. Soime of the credit should be given to Sarfaraz Ahmed and Mickey Arthur for moulding and improving this team, as well as the talent in the country that has stood against huge challenges like near isolation and no international cricket at home.

The bulk of the problems are still with the selection and PCB management. No Pakistan A tours, very few odis. Pakistan should've been on 4th or 5th if there were more ODI matches in the past 6 months.

This ranking system is bizarre to say the least, ICC needs to review the points system so the wider public apart from themselves can understand how it works, absolute shambles of a system in my opinion.

Google it. They have very good explanation online. More weightage is given to last two years compared to years before. As the time goes on, the oldest data gets discarded.

Those rankings seem like a fair reflection of where the teams stand. Though as a poster mentioned before T20 rankings are a bit less hard-and-fast as most major teams don't take bilateral T20's very seriously.

blank zim 5-0 and pray eng beat oz 4-1 atleast and we'll be in top 5 IA.. this is pretty much possible considering the likes of smith and warner are missing.. they have won just 2 out of last 11 odis in 2017-18 period..

Woah we were at 89 points in 2016 and also in danger of losing a 8th position to w.i at that time .this is one of the best turn around for us in odis hopefully we will improve further in odis

Happy with our T20 rankings. Inshallah we improve our ODI and test rankings.

Sure aunty g.
How hard is it to give credit where due?

About time England surpassed India in the rankings. They have the best batting lineup in the world and no other team can rival them. Bowling is definitely not as good as some other teams like Pakistan and Australia but they have a decent bunch of all-rounders that'll definitely help them in the world cup next year.

ENG bowling <<< IND bowling

Yeah but T20 internationals are considered international cricket, arent they? and part of ICC schedule, other teams not taking it seriously is a pretty odd statement as whenever you are going to select or represent your team at international level stakes are pretty.

Yes new players are tried at T20 level, so what Pak has also groomed almost every youngster in the current team by trying him in international T20s furst, if bench strength of other teams is weak and they play with non serious attitude (According to you) it doesnt make T20 internationals any less important than ODIs.

There was a time when England didnt take ODIs seriously, what difference did it make and now they realize that they were wrong.

We thrashed SA 5-1 away still dropped points in the new cycle!

As the cycle shifts some wins in previous time period become less weighted and so less score if in that period India would have performed well and combining that with the recent results it generated pretty good points.

However, like each year cycle is re adjusted to give the series played closer to today more weighted score than the series played for example last year.

I think it's fair. Pakistan takes T20 more seriously than any other team and hence deserves the place.

So you mean to say other teams just roll over?

The PAK team has come a long way since Sarfaraz took over / since 2016. Prior to that we were terrible under a more so terrible captain (afridi). With the ulitmate low points during the WT20 and Asia cup 2016. Its only after Afridi finally retired and sarfaraz took over we went up in the rankings.

Maybe you and aunty should do some research before posting stuff like PAK takea T20 more serious.

Same goes for the ODI team but that takes more time and we are going into the right direction in LOIs.

It just hurts certain posters / people seeing PAK at the top in T20s (basically the future of cricket no matter people like it or not).

To say other teams dont take it serious is such a stupid statement.

Finally after a good few years we are competing again in T20s. So that whole logic doesnt make sense anyways...

I think you guys misunderstood me. Yes, Pakistan being number 1 in T20 is a reflection of how well we've beaten the teams in front of us, but for most cricket purists and top-teams themselves it's lower in the list as a reflection of the teams. I think this was aptly illustrated during the Nidahas trophy in Sri Lanka, where India played a team that was between their B-C team even though it was a significant multi-team tournament. That doesn't mean that we shouldn't be proud of the achievement, it's just that it's a 3rd in the hierarchy after Tests/ODI. What does matter however is World Cups.

What we are working towards is another World T20 win; one of my biggest regrets was not winning more of those in that 2007-2012 period where we easily were the best T20 side going. Gul and Ajmal were the best T20 bowlers around apart from Malinga so there's a sense of regret that I hope we can correct. This might also be the spark we need to improve our ODI results and rankings leading into the World Cup next year.

That aside, I believe even if every team put out their full-strength T20 squads, we'd be up there as one of the top 3 along with England/India, and easily have the most balanced team taking into account our bowling attack. Good times ahead :)

COMPETITION FOR TOP SPOT IN T20I TEAM RANKINGS

Top-ranked Pakistan, second-ranked Australia and third-ranked India will all be seen in action in upcoming matches as the uppermost tiers of the MRF Tyres ICC T20I Team Rankings have the potential to change over the next two weeks.

Pakistan, who lead the table with 131 points, will be the favourites in the upcoming Zimbabwe Tri-Series to be played in Harare from 1-8 July but the presence of Australia in the competition spices up the contests as the reigning ICC Cricket World Cup champions are only five points behind Pakistan and with a good chance to overtake them.

Irrespective of the result of Australia’s one-off match against England ahead of the tournament, they can overtake Pakistan in the double-league if they win all their four matches against Pakistan and Zimbabwe. In such a scenario, they will move ahead of Pakistan even if the latter win both their matches against Zimbabwe.

Australia can go up to 137 points if they beat England, win their four league matches and beat Pakistan in the final, while Pakistan will similarly reach 136 points if they win all their four league matches and the final against Australia. Zimbabwe, currently placed 12th, will overtake Scotland on the points table even with a solitary win in the tournament.

India have the potential of reaching 127 points by winning their five matches – two against Ireland and three against England. On the other hand, England could go up to 126 points if they beat Australia and then defeat India 3-0. India or England could reach the top spot if Zimbabwe are able to pull off a couple of upsets in the Tri-Series and depending on other results, Australia and Pakistan could be restricted to below those numbers.

Ireland, placed 17th on the points table, will overtake Oman if they win one match against India and will move to 15th position, also ahead of Hong Kong, if they pull off a 2-0 series win.

In the MRF Tyres ICC T20I Player Rankings, Pakistan’s Babar Azam heads the list of batsmen while the Australia pair of Glenn Maxwell and Aaron Finch are in third and fourth positions. India captain Virat Kohli, a former top-ranked batsman will be looking to claw back from his eighth position while England’s Jos Buttler would be looking to continue his ODI form and better his 26th position in T20Is.

Wrist-spinners Shadab Khan of Pakistan (2nd) and Yuzvendra Chahal of India (3rd) will be the leading bowlers seen in upcoming matches while Zimbabwe’s Hamilton Masakadza (10th among batsmen) and Ireland’s George Dockrell (19th among bowlers) will be the others looking to better their positions.
