Pakistan reach 103/0 at stumps on Day 1 of the 1st Test after bowling out Zimbabwe for 176

Why is Wesley Madhevere not in the Zim test squad? Yes he has gotten 3 ducks in 3 innings at test level but, everyone can see he has the potential.
 
Faheem looking decent in slips so far. If he can do anything as close to Imran Butt at this position, Pak will atlast have a decent slip cordon.
 
Have to say it was a solid move by Babar. Nauman got the wicket, Babar sensed the opportunity and replaced Faheem with Hassan.
 
Big chance for our batters to make some good runs here. Total dismantling so far.
 
Quite saddening to see how bad Zimbabwe have become.

I remember the days of the Flower brothers, the Strang brothers, Streak, Houghton, Goodwin etc.
 
That dropped catch is going to cost us. At this level of cricket you can't afford that. And that is why Pakistan can never be a top side. Rookie mistakes like that.
 
Sajid's action seems to make it hard for him to bowl a consistent line.

A single drop catch is no excuse. Its part of cricket. India dropped a more than dozen catches in Australia and still won

Nonsensical selection...Azhar Ali should had made way for saud Shakeel and agha Salman should had been played instead of fawad Alam..
Isn't this the right time to introduce newcomers?
I mean Pakistan will never be match winners anymore ..they are just short of confidence...MISBAH syndrome.

I had to look up who Roy Kaia is and apparently he made debut vs Pakistan 4-5 years back. In fact a lot of Zim players seem to have made debuts vs Pakistan. How often have these teams played :))

there is nothing in the wicket for them but yes not impressed with them so far

Reminds me of shoaib akhtar taking a big chunk off the ball with his thumb when the pace attack looked docile back on the 2002 Zimbabwe tour. Clive Lloyd just warned him I think.

Zimbabwe has played around 30 matches in last decade and had 46 debutants.
 
Pak fielding has been good. Spin bowling been fairly good. Spinners do not come into the match till later on in the match. Shaheen has also bowled well. Fahim and Hasan Ali been OK too. It is a batting friendly pitch, with Zimbos playing home you expect them to score atleast 200+

Pretty much. Slip catching could have been slightly better from Babar but, others have been decent.

That was uncalled for comment, nothing on view suggested Hasan digging seam.
 
Good to see Hasan Ali bowling with a method.He would be a damn good bowler if he can increase his pace again.
 
Hopefully Hassan can remain injury free now just like Shami has been since his initial few back injuries as both didnt have that early back injury breakdowns rather around that mid 20s mark.
 
Sajid looks like has good tools, he is much more threatening than Nauman, though later more economical.
 
Shaheen's skills with the old ball fail to impress me continuously.

In the period where the ball is not new enough to swing, and not old enough to reverse, his bowling is atrocious.

He needs to come up with better plans, either a short-ball barrage or needs to block one side of the field and bowl to it.

He is still developing at this level, needs to improve on the art of reverse swing as that is the key with the old ball in test cricket. Also needs to keep on working on his setting up of batsmen. He is 21 will get better as he gains more experience as he didnt have much FC experience to start with.

Celebration is hardly responsible for that.

Maybe he needs to get a small break before bowling again.

He needs to play the next season of FC cricket, but given that it happens near the T20WC, he will probably go another season without playing FC.
 
Sajid did not impress so far on his debut.

Nauman should be brought back.

The issue with Sajid is his inconsistency in bowling one line with his action.
 
Shaheen searching for his 50th and Sajid searching for his first. Will have to see who gets to his individual milestone first

He is on debut so there will naturally be nerves and not to forget its first day of the test and spinners rarely come into play. Will be able to better judge in the 2nd innings of Zim as the wicket will have more on offer for spinners.

Yea, just a little nerves. Pakistan should look to bat Zimbabwe out of this now.

It doesn't only matter what's on offer.

When conditions don't suit spinners, they need to pick a line and stick to it to dry up the runs.

That's what Indian spinners did in Australia and look at the result. Our spinners need to do better.

We not playing Aus, nor we are under pressure, so naturally Sajid has been trying to get wickets. It is his first match after all.

Ashwin had over 300 test wickets and tons of experience. This is Sajid’s first match.

Washington Sundar debuted in that series and had an economy of 3.45 and average of 42.

Yes Sajid hasnt created impact so far but, as said its too early to judge. Irrespective of the opposition, first day is tough for spinners generally and he has gone at around 3.4 which isnt that bad.

Not impressed with Sajod's bowling action. Too chest on and hardly any use of non-bowling arm. No rotation at all
 
Will be interesting to see the batting. It's Zimbabwes bowling they will be up against, the first innings score is not too big. So take your time and bat big.
 
Muzarabani will be the key for Zim but, with Pak batting you never know who wins the lottery. Pak will have to bat well especially the top order.
 
Am sure both pakistan openers will be out for a team score of less than 20 as usual.
 
What is the thinking behind filling the squad with veterans on a tour like this.

Veterans with very few tests under their belts like Fawad, Nauman, Abid etc.

Surely need to be looking longer term than 35 year olds.
