Azhar should retire but as usual OTT opinions by some about Babar's spin playing ability. He is decent enough against spin.

Looks like these days
On spin tracks batsmen planning is to attack spinners rather than defending
As we saw with mayank root and many others
And right now with babar

Congratulations to Azhar Ali on reaching his fifth-century

Even against Bangladesh, he is struggling to score runs playing at a snail pace..

Came in played maidens after maidens, broke the rhythm for Abid and he is gone..

Hope he doesnt get a 50 like this, more painful to see an experienced test batsman to play like this when there is nothing in the pitch and no penetration from bowlers..

It is the same delivery Babar nudged a single on the offside, Azhar ali got hit on the helmet and this guy has played 100+ deliveries still cant judge the bounce on this pitch..

Azhar is finished he's batting like there are hand grenades being thrown at him. Age has caught up and sooner he goes the better. That he's babar's friend doesn't help

Really poor and he will need to consider his future.

I agree he is a very frustrating batsman to watch. But he has pretty much always been like this, as far as I can remember. Yet he somehow still manages to get runs.

I think he should be phased out of the team now and we can start giving some others a go e.g., Saud Shakeel

Everyone is Babar's friend. Azhar Ali is only playing ecause the selectors selected him as the main batsman. Babar had no say in selection couple years ago when Azhar should have retired.

Well at least pakistan won the toss and will get to bat for a bit

Bangladesh have been terrible with the bat throughout this tour. Hoping for Pakistan to bat once only in this game

After Tea:

BD were asked to bowl with spinners

They refused and said we will bowl pacers

Pak batters refused offer and went off!

What a pathetic reason to delay a Test match. Why are Bangladesh insisting on bowling pace and delaying the game?

It petty stuff like this from bangladesh that ensures they won't progress as a team.

You haven't bowled pacers all day. You weren't going to bowl them in this session.

Bunch of chickens.

Bangladesh would be happy to escape with a Draw here. They have been winless all series.

Pakistan would lose points due to Draw.

But now he does have a say in playing 11. As far as i know both imam and azhar are close to babar

But it works both ways

Pakistan were offered the light, they decided to take it. They could have just dealt with it and let the umpires make the call

Bad light stopped play has got to be the most frustrating thing about test cricket. Infuriating.

Maybe in 50 years we won't see it happen any more.

Update:

First day of second test match has been called off due to the bad light.

For next four days starting time of the play is 9:30 am.

Babar was finally looking good and was heading towards a much awaited century and again bad light stopped the play. Same happened in England.

Hopefully he doesn't get out tomorrow early in the morning.

Batsmen (Pakistan) have no say in the matter,

umpires says light is too bad for pacers, does the bowling team want to bowl spinners, bowling team says no off they go.

Same situation was in india game, NZ (batsmen) wanted to go off, but india said we will bowl spinners and umpires were fine with it.

History shows that Babar struggles at the start of the next day. Will he again miss out or has he learnt from his mistakes

Pakistan ended the opening day of their second Test against Bangladesh at 161/2, with bad light forcing abandonment of the final session in Dhaka.

Babar Azam, the captain, had scored a breezy 60* by stumps, and was accompanied by Azhar Ali (36*) when the umpires decided that stumps had to be drawn.

Pakistan opted to bat and had gotten off to a good start, with Abid Ali and Abdullah Shafique putting on 59 runs for the first wicket. The duo was untroubled by the Bangladesh pacers, with Ebadot Hossain and Khaled Ahmed struggling to threaten the duo.

Abid and Shafique brought up a 50-run partnership after a solid first hour, but the momentum slowly dried up when spin was introduced. The pressure yielded wickets, with Shafique being cleaned up by Taijul Islam, the left-arm spinner, for a 50-ball 25.

Abid didn’t last much longer – Taijul skidded one through, and Abid was cramped, chopping on for an 81-ball 39. Bangladesh had regained momentum, and the two new batters, Azam and Azhar, were under the pump. The duo held on till Lunch, but the first hour of the second session was a grind as well.

They held firm under overcast skies, but after a brief rain break, the tables turned. Azam was more fluent thereafter, and the momentum seemed to have been drained from the Bangladesh bowlers.

Azam played his shots – he was fortunate to be dropped by Khaled Ahmed in the deep – and Azhar used the sweep a couple of times as Pakistan broke free from Bangladesh’s shackles. They were just gaining a grip on the innings when the clouds regathered around tea.

The light was deemed insufficient for play to continue for the day, and Bangladesh will hope for a better start to the second morning.

Really poor and he will need to consider his future.

That's not gonna happen. Our players don't have any shame or dignity. Azhar will occupy spot most likely at least another 3-4 before get injured.

I dont see an issue there. He does need to preform though. In our test side we do not stability

Imam is in none of the teams even if he is a friend, Abdullah has been selected above him, and Azhar is playing before Babar had say, so eith Azhar flops completely for couple series or retires then Babar cannot and will not remove a senior batsman who has served Pakistan well in past, albeit he is blocking players who are better than him at this stage of his career. Dilemma is Azhar keeps producing atleast one goodish inning each series.

Pakistan in commanding position runs on the board always handy #atharalikhan

Azhar Ali ruining his reputation & losing fans since 2018 , abh bass kar yaar .. koi sharam hoti hai koi haya hoti hai… age old problem with Pakistani cricketers just not willing to accept the end

Everyone is waiting for the day Azhar retires or is booted out of the team for Saud/Ghulam and it can't come soon enough.

Just an awful player to watch even when he manages to do well.

Nice to see the new opening combo of Abid & Abdullah giving the team some actual starts instead of the usual 30/3 we were often seeing.

Miraz admitted that the pacers couldn't put Pakistan under enough pressure amid the overcast condition

The first day of the second and final Test of the series between hosts Bangladesh and Pakistan at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium Saturday encountered gloomy weather, an effect of the cyclonic storm Jawad over the west-central Bay of Bengal.

The third session of the day got abandoned due to bad light and the game earlier was briefly interrupted with rain.

On-field umpire Sharfouddola flicked the bails off after the third inspection to indicate close of play on day one.

This had broken up the game which was looking to get settled with a brief spell from the Bangladesh spinners putting Pakistan in trouble.

Pakistan choosing to bat first were thankful to two partnerships between Abid Ali and Abdullah Shafique of 59 for the first wicket and then another one of unbroken 91 between Azhar Ali and Babar Azam for the third wicket.

Bangladesh on the day could pick up only two wickets while Pakistan posted 161 runs in 57 overs of play.

There are discussions going around as to why Bangladesh pacers Ebadat Hossain and Khaled Ahmed were not able to make the best use of the weather early in the game.

Off-spinner Mehedi Hasan Miraz while speaking to the media at the end of the day admitted the matter and emphasized on the importance of having a bowling partnership.

In the first session, left-arm spinners Taijul Islam and Shakib al Hasan created pressure from both ends and this resulted in Taijul bagging two wickets.

“It is important to take early wickets in Test cricket and if there is no fall of wicket then you need to check the runs. We were not being able to take early wickets. In the first session, we were bowling wicket taking deliveries, we were in a good position but not ahead of them. It would have been better for us if we had taken a few more wickets in the second session. We could have taken at least two wickets more if we had utilized the best of the weather condition," said Miraz.

"At the end of the day, their batters batted well, they were in an attacking mode and managed the good deliveries well. I think a lot of the game is left, we played only two sessions in the first day. We still have four days left so there are a lot of scenarios to come.

“Taijul bhai got us a very good start. He was in a good shape even in the last Test took the most wickets for us. Partnership is important in Test cricket. If the pacers could have managed to put pressure from both ends then it would have been a different game for us. The two wickets we got was because Taijul bhai and Shakib bhai both had created pressure from two ends. We missed creating pressure in the second session for which they were able to dominate us."

The play on day two will start 30 minutes early with the aim of 98 overs to be bowled.

Miraz informed that the focus of the team is on bowling – to contain the runs and get 10 wickets in the first innings as quickly as possible.

“Both the departments [batting and bowling] have to do well for a team to win a Test match. In the end of the day you have to score both runs and take 20 wickets. I think the job will be easy for us if the bowlers can hold on to their performance and check the runs and the batters can score. Right now we are bowling so our focus should be on that. We first need to take the 10 wickets and following that the batters can go to the middle with a good plan,” said Miraz.

And this is why Bangladesh has such a terrible record and has not improved. This is a test match they need to win to draw the series. Their pace bowlers are awful. Their spin attack has been their main wicket taking threat. The next 3 days will have lots of bad weather and their only chance of a result is to utilise every minute available. The weather is overcast. The light is not ideal for batting. They are told they must use spinners in the conditions available. They are playing on their beloved home turf - a spinners paradise where the ball was turning square from session 1.

AND ---------- THEY REFUSED!!!!!!!!!!!!

Unbelievable. This is why Bangladesh are rubbish at cricket
