Pakistan recover well to reach 212/4 at Stumps on Day 1 of the 2nd Test against the West Indies

Embarrassing over rate for the first day especially when there were no weather related interruptions. 16 overs short

Nahi bhai we shouldn’t set our expectations low. A batsmen of his calibre, he should have at least scored a 100 here.

You sound like the Indian parents on a sketch show i saw lol with them yelling at their son getting a B when he's only 6 lol.

Honestly try sticking it out for 30 mins out there, you'd pass out with that heat.

Lol, nah but it was a good comeback from 2-3 regardless.

It's a very good comeback in my view, if your openers aren't doing the business then i think putting on a 150+ partnership is more than satisfactory lol.

The pitch looked easier to bat compared to the last match . Expect Windies to bat well too. Pakistan will have to push for a win in this test as WI would be happier with a draw and win the series.

If they continue to miss 15 over everyday then at the end of the day 70-75 overs would be wasted which is like more than 2 sessions.

Babar Azam is the most soft test batsman I have watched. When was the last time he played a game changing innings ? NEVER

Clueless post.

If coming in at 2/3 and scoring 75 and putting a 150+ partnership isn't a game-changing innings then there will never be one.

Yes....he could have gone for a bigger score but you can't call this innings as soft.

There’s plenty of time, can’t say anything until both sides have batted.

A little less grass on the pitch has hampered any movement.

It was a hot day so you can’t really blame both teams, probably time for them to invest in ice collars.

Mighty impressed with fawad Alam. such a strong mentality he has. Hope he can resume his innings after being hurt

Less grass and hot weather will help the pitch break up. I think there'll be more turn as the game progresses. If we put up a good total then the 4th innings will be difficult out there.

Yep, it’ll also diminish that grass as well. Tomorrow is ideal for batting so Pak have to take advantage and post a large 1st innings total. Numan was an excellent selection.

Babar Azam:

Earlier in the day, the bowlers were getting help from the pitch but after the first three wickets fell early, Fawad Alam came in and gave me his full support to help us recover.

I Fawad told that a good partnership would be needed to get the team out of trouble and we both had decided that it was necessary to stay on the crease for a long time to score runs

During the partnership, Fawad and I set goals for runs on a session by session basis

Our target is to score 300-350 in the first innings and with Mohammad Rizwan and Faheem Ashraf at the crease, hopefully we will achieve the target on Day 2

I am working hard to improve my performance in the long format cricket and I am happy that my hard work is bearing fruit

Fawad Alam is in excellent form, he is playing great - we all need to learn from the way Fawad Alam plays his cricket at difficult times.

Fawad Alam suffered cramps while batting and is being treated by the team doctor and physio he will come in to bat tomorrow

After reeling at 2/3 in the early stages, a fightback from captain Babar Azam and Fawad Alam has lifted Pakistan to 212/4 at the end of day one in Jamaica.

Azam and left-hander Alam prevented a disastrous collapse, putting on 158 and blunting the home barrage before Alam succumbed to injury.

Winning the toss and electing to field, Kraigg Brathwaite’s decision seemed a smart one, with Kemar Roach dismissing Abid Ali in the first over for one.

The slip cordon was busy in the early overs, as Roach and new-ball partner Jayden Seales found their rhythm. Roach found Azhar Ali’s outside edge as he was caught by Joshua da Silva for a duck, while Seales joined in the celebrations after a successful review to dismiss Imran Butt.

Azam and Alam calmed proceedings, nursing Pakistan to 62/3 when lunch was called after 25 overs. Seeing off the barrage from Roach and Seales, the pair played out four maidens against Kyle Mayers and Jason Holder, who came on in spurts of four and six overs respectively.

Seeing off the shine in the first session gave Pakistan freedom after lunch, with both members of the partnership reaching half centuries. Azam brought up his 18th Test fifty with a trademark back-foot drive for four, while Alam also brought up his half-century with a boundary, Pulling Alzarri Joseph to the fence.

The hot and humid Jamaican conditions play a part in proceedings, with Jahmar Hamilton taking the keeping gloves from Joshua da Silva, struggling from cramps. The batting side were not immune either, with Alam, feeling the same effects, struggling to bat.

Alam retired hurt on 76 after overtaking his partner in the runs column, and Azam fell soon after for 75, edging to Jason Holder, taking a good catch low at second slip.

The wicket put the brakes on Pakistan’s fightback, though Faheem Ashraf and Mohammad Rizwan quashed any potential of a collapse, pushing the score past 200 before the light was called 74 overs into the day.

Rizwan (22*) and Ashraf (23*) will resume tomorrow, with Alam likely to return at the fall of day two’s first wicket.

I think this is a 375 runs vs 375 runs wicket and Windies will escape with a draw here to win the series.

A day where you had to see off the new ball and then bat all day.

Awful performance from the top 3 once again.

If 15 overs is lost every day due to bad light then this is ending a draw. Considering the batting conditions to be very good now, pakistan might just bat out an entire day

Babar and Fawad have managed to paper over the cracks.

We simply cannot afford to play Imran B and Abid A in the side...
Azhar Ali seems to have declined too so we need to make the changes.
Can't keep playing the same three hoping for different results

Although I’m not an Azhar fan you’ve gotta have one experienced guy in the team and besides he’s had an exceptional year with the bat.

Its a pity players like Asad Shafiq kept Fawad out of the side for so long...every one of Fawad's run has made a difference unlike about-to-lose 100s from Shafiq.

I know its unlikely to happen because we hardly play any test cricket (or so the excuse goes)...but the following top 6 can be tried to make best use of resources available.

Imam
Azhar (keep him there till he retires)
Saud
Babar
Fawad
Rizwan

....the likes of Abid, Imran, Shan, Fakhar can be judged based on their performances in first class cricket.

And...for the umpteenth time can we ask Abdullah Shafique to play some first class cricket please ...hopefully he could eventually pair up with Imam as a long term solution.
