Our batting is too fragile to benefit from doctored pitches. If we produce rank turners, it will backfire because our batsmen will fall like ninepins against any half decent spinner.

With Azhar our, this is going to be a crucial period of play.
 
Good innings by Azhar, especially since we lost early wickets.

Also, we can complain about his strike rate, but he has been striking at a higher rate than most of our other batsmen.
 
Lets see if lessons from 1st test have been learnt and see if we can get a big lead or make a dogs dinner of things again.

When he does play positively he scores runs, no brainer really!
 
Pakistan needs to bat half day into tomorrow. And then hope for the best.

There's a reason Azhar is the highest run scorer this series (outscoring the likes of KW and Ross Taylor).

we really need to have azhar in the ODI side instead of Imam. Overall he is our best test bat by miles and one of the best in the world. I dont get why people hate him so much. Its nonsensical.

I don't think he means producing rank turners, probably means we can produce pitches that suit our players.

Don't be fooled by his test performances.
He is good test player.
But no where near to modern of bat.
 
Finally a 100 for Shafiq, His been below par every since younis and misbah retired.

I disagree. He is a player who has skills and can blunt some of the best attacks out there. Give him a clear role and he can do great for us ala the CT. Plus he can play under pressure. He should be in the ODI squad. This modern batsman bakwaas is just that. There is only one modern batsman and his name is kohli..
 
Hopefully he can carry on from here, He really struggled after MissYou retired and found himself unable to take the extra responsibility.

Shafiq always loses concentration as if his work is done after reaching a ton. This is the reason why his top score is just 137

Shafiq highest score is 109 i think, never made a big 100.
 
Asad shafique gets out on 0 he receives criticism and he scores a 100 he still receives criticism. That is how life works guys.

There are 33 overs left. In worst case scenario Pakistan even if Pakistan loses all 5 wickets, I am sure they will eat away 25 overs, that is another minimum 50-60 runs.

100 Run lead is not bad at all.
 
if either of these gets out, the other batsmen needs to bat alot better with tail then previously.
 
There's 2 ways Pakistan can go about business here. Either try to get a huge lead of around 250 and try to bat once. That may be difficult given this is the last recognized batting pair. Second is try to get a lead of 150 as quickly as possible and get NZ in again leaving yourself enough time to chase whatever target you have for the fourth innings.
 
Unless Yasir bowls them out fr 90 again brace yourselfs for another final day 140 run chase calamity.

Again I come back to the opening issue. When you have two non-performing openers then the wickets of your middle-order batsmen become more damaging than usual.

Imagine how useful even an extra 30-40 from Imam and Hafeez would be here.
 
110-130 lead minimum to compete and not be blown away in 4th innings. 150+ and we’ll be in business.
 
Sarfaraz really wants lead around 100 and this is making him play an un natural game. Dont remember last time he scored 5 of 29 balls.

He should play naturally and that style of play would also be a best strategy at this stage.
