What's new

Pakistan smash Australia by 373 runs in the 2nd Test as Mohammad Abbas takes ten-wicket haul

Here's an idea. Get the offspinner on.

Ok this is a bit of a joke now

Asif has not bowled all morning while we persist with the useless Yasir

Abbas is rocking here. What a bowler! Doesn't have a competent partner

Asif has finally worked out he needs to bowl quicker on this slow surface.

what a mistake it was not to bowl Abbas in the morning session of 5th day last test and we can thank hafeez for that.

Meaning?

Whilst we should win game and series from here, we will need huge improvements in the black cap series.

Man, if only we hadn't delayed the declaration and batted so slowly yesterday we might have a chance of winning this test.
.

:))) Certain "fans" always have something to complain about.

Abbas is one of his nicknames apparently.

Oh yes, I remember now. The performance analyst wrote an article about it when AB retired. Thanks.

Well done Pakistan, should have won series 2-0 instead won 1-0.

A lot of improvements will be needed to beat new zealand when they are here.

Abbas you absolute beauty. Dont understand why some fans keep crying about Asif, he is done, not coming back and dare I to say that Abbas is even better than Asif.

Should have been 2-0 tbh, but I’ll take this utter domination here. Australia have been played off the park. Hopefully this young team now has this experience to kick-start domination of visiting teams in the UAE.

Abbas for MoTM and MoTS. No doubt whatsoever. Brilliant find, really happy for the lad.

Great win.
Abbas the stand out performer.

Completely outplayed Aussies over each session of the series barring one.

Could have won the first game had it not been for the pitch.

Abbas you legend!

First fastbowler in the history of cricket to get a 10-wicket haul in UAE.

Pakistan win by 373 runs.

i think it must be biggest win vs Aus for Pak in terms of Runs,??? and this match has very similar pattern to that famous karachi test,,, where we were 39/6 and the match ended with pak winning by 341 runs, the biggest victory margin vs India for Pak, this is that level of turn around , one of the most amazing turn arounds. Well played.

Asif probably had a bit more zip in his bowling but Abbas has been brilliant

Asif and Abbas opening up with the new ball would be a treat

We don't both bowling from both ends, even this aged Asif is better than all other options we have or tried, specially on South african pitches.

Yasir brings average down below 30 again.

Abbas has to be the MoS. 17 wickets in 2 Tests on this heartless venues are one of the best performance in UAE by any type of bowler.

Just for the aesthetics ;-)

Mir Hamza should've bowled more. Yasir was overbowled. Not good captaincy. Will be okay if Mir plays the next coming test match too. Captain to blame if he is dropped.

Big relief for Sarfraz. This victory will at least keep the wolves at bay. Great stuff from Abbas. Hope he performs well in South Africa and remain injury free. Just a little worried about the lack of batting resistance from our lower order batting. That’s a key factor in deciding the winners and losers of high profile test series.

Unpopular opinion, but Sarfaraz should have been man of the match.

Abbas should have been man of the series.

3 back to back Man-of-the-series awards for Abbas, has this ever happened before? Ireland series was a 1 test match and Abbas was a Man-of-the-match as well as series.

Hope we will manage to keep Abbas away from T20, but he will be very good addition to ODI team now.

Yes amazing victory..I was hoping it wuld have matched karachi 2006 and it almost followed the same pattern but that Indian lineup was a billion times better than this bakwaas Aus lineup. Very impressed with Abbas. What other gems a re toiling away in FC cricket? Tabish? Sadaf? maybe Mickey needs to give one of these bowlers a chance and see how they perform?

the batting was fine, good to see Haris getting a hundred and Babar also bedding in. Also great to see my man Sarfi firing again. And also Hafeez getting some runs as a good Hafeez is important to have in your Squad when he's making runs in the UAE.

the cons for me was the second or third pacer. Now abroad we have faheem , amir and abbas with yasir and shadab as the spinners. But what do we do at home? Amir is defunct at home at the moment and needs to work hard to get back to form. Faheem is sacrificed for a spinner which is understandable and shadab for a batsman. What do we do??

Cons in the batting are the worry that panic sets in if we lose a few quick wickets. Also the openers and Azhar. Azhar seems to have found some form as we really need him for NZ who will have a legendary bowling attack. Also Shafiq is again looking up and down..Can this team hold on and not panic if Boult runs through our top order?

Relieved that we're back to winning ways in the UAE after four Tests without a win.

Mohammad Abbas has been sensational. Whatever doubts as to whether he could be a threat in UAE conditions operating at his pace have been extinguished. His Asif-esque relentless accuracy, movement, and stump-to-stump bowling combined with bowling INTELLIGENCE (take note Wahab and Rahat) has been most impressive. The challenge is how he adapts to batsmen who will do their homework against him now.

This was a massive Test for Sarfraz Ahmed. Ever since his appointment as captain his batting has gone downhill. After the Asia Cup debacle and drawn first Test where his tactics were under fire - his captaincy was under scrutiny too. But his carefree batting despite coming in at 57-5 reminded me of his golden run in 2014/15 where he had license to play these counterattacking innings at #7.

Fakhar Zaman has also made an outstanding start to his Test career, adding much needed impetus to a one paced batting lineup. Azhar Ali and Babar Azam scoring fifties in the 2nd Innings was also crucial given their poor Test form.

A downside for me was Yasir Shah's ineffectiveness against Australia's top six - averaging 74 against them according to CricViz - his worst figures against the top six of a Test batting lineup since his horrid 2016 tour of Australia. Also Mohammad Hafeez needs to given his long overdue goodbye.

NZ will be a tougher challenge but this series win gives everyone a lift.

Just a point on Yasir, he hasn't played for a year. Lets give him a few more matches..

MoS is a recent concept, therefore many olden greats missing out.

Imran probably was MoS 4 in a row - not sure if MoS was awarded that time, but he was head & shoulder above best player in 1980-82 for 4 Series - AUS-PAK, ENG-PAK, PAK-SRL & PAK-IND.

In olden days, Sir Don would have been MoS in almost every series had it been awarded that time - may be only his 1st series 1928-29 (Hammond was best player), 1932-33 (Larwood) & 1948 (almost everyone for AUS) he won't have won it, while 1938 is 50-50. Keith Miller was best player for 3 back to back 5 Test series in mid 50s, but not recognized. Viv Scored almost 2000 runs in a calendar year against IND, ENG and later PAK next year - could have been as well. Warne was MoS for almost his entire career against Poms:(

Sobers, definitely was best players for few consecutive series in 1960s.

Even further, Syd Barnes took 7/Test & Lohmann 6/Test at an average of 10-12, and Tom Richardson 88 in 15 Tests ...they were like MoM in every Test :).

Take Sadaf Hossain in your test team. He is the best pacer in Pakistan over the years. Performance of Abbas tells that Sadaf will also deliver.

Good win but let's not get carried away. This is UAE.

Batting is not that strong. It lacks both quality and depth. Fakhar should be a permanent fixture in tests as well, Babar is steady but Haris is over-rated imo. The same batting line-up will get exposed against SA in SA and against the current mediocre Aussies in Aus. And don't forget when Smith and Warner are finally back, Australia will be a much stronger side. Let's see how Abbas's career progresses over the next 12 months or so esp. in places such as South Africa and Australia

And Wahab should never again be selected for tests

We had a much longer batting line up that made a major difference in the match. Sarfaraz batting at number 7 is absolutely the right place for him to be. Let it be clear that he should never bat from 4 to 6, he's not good enough to occupy those spots. These places should be reserved for our best batters like Haris, Babar and Shafiq or anyone who replaces them. The bowling is looking solid as well, Yasir's return gives us further reason to be optimistic for future Tests. With the likes of Amir, Hassan, Junaid and Shinwari not playing there is plenty on the bench if we need to make some changes. True that we won in favourable UAE conditions that is not to undermine the performance at all. We are not the only side in the world who plays at "home". Bring on the Kiwis.

Very happy with the win. Feels good to beat a team like Australia, yes it's not their strongest squad but still a great feeling to beat a good cricketing nation like them.

Congratulations to Pakistan on series win. Well dobe guys, Mohammad Abbas was absolutely amazing. I couldn't catch live action but saw the highlights everyday, Abbas was amazing. Get him and Yasir in the ODI team too, at least try them out before the World Cup.

Hopefully with Fakhar performing tou guys will drop Hafeez and go with Imam and Fakhar as openers in tests too.
