What's new

Pakistan South Africa | 2nd Test | Cape Town | 14/2/13 | Day 1

it would have been better if we would have lost 2 wickets till lunch

i agree he should have had played positively rather than playing the waiting game but that was the game plan by coach and captain.

PP meme alert:

Every mistake by a Pakistan player is the fault of team management, coach or captain.
Unless it is the captain in which case everything is his fault.

Pak 60/4 if we can get to 200 somehow from here it will be a miracle.

We r not saying this..but jamshed ko kehna chaiye go play ur game kiddo. I was watching saeed anwar 100 against SA in SA in 1997. He was being himself backing his natural ability, thats what our batsmen r lacking.

Lol. If he attacks. He will make 20 off 10 or 13 balls and still edge one attacking.

This is what you don't get.

There is a huge difference between playing attacking cricket by selecting your shots and just going out and bashing every ball.

Pakistani batsmen don't know how to attack.

and Pakistani fans are in love with Afridiesque style batting.

Hence we are awful at batting.

R u for real, who has mentioned afridi batting style here. As a opening you have to play shots in SA, you wont last long if u try and play for drawing mentality. Pakistan openers were v defensive we r 4 down now, had we attacked who knows may be we would have been 2 down for 70 odd runs. U r missing da point that we want pak openrrs to be agressive but in a sensible way.

Because of T20 every one thinks attacking cricket is hitting every ball for a boundary.... Attacking cricket is positive cricket moving around at the crease to disrupt the line and length of the bowler and pushing singles and twos with the odd boundary here and there.

Well, after some bigotry, let's get back to this game.

I feel wicket of Jamshed was the key here. The management is wasting him by putting him at the opening slot. He is a free flowing player, but doesn't have the technique to be an opener. He would've been much handy now, when the ball is not seaming that much.

Anyway, I still feel that SA have broken the back of Pakistan batting here. Anything less then 300 will mean trouble for Pakistan.

Younis to score 100* and Shafique 75 then Tanvir to score a quickfire 40 and gul 35 pak finishing 300/all out

So we are chasing the game by session 1 in trying to get a par score......60/4 and after one wicket its tail so 120-130 looks realistic....but 250 will be very good......

Why don't you guys replace Hafeez with Farhat? He won't do any worse, and the way he plays he just might be able to score some runs...

It will be slightly easier to bat lunch onwards which makes this partnership and any lower order contributions very crucial. I would honestly take 200 from here..anything more than that is a plus.

Then unleash the giant.

Fine. But for disrupting the line and length of a bowler, a batsman needs confidence in his own abilities. If moving around the crease were so easy, we would've seen every other batsmen attempting that with success.

The fact is that, most Pakistani/sub continental batsmen have a mental blockage against swinging/seaming/bouncing ball. To remove that, they need to play more in those conditions.

Its his debut match vs best batting line-up possible in world cricket :yk

So I'd keep my hopes down.

[Wish we had 'traitors' right now :asif/:amir]

Sick and tired of seeing people bag Mohammad Amir, the kid has already suffered enough. He has been sitting on the sidelines for 3 years watching his team mates play like this just sitting there helplessly knowing he can't do a thing, this series especially must be killing him.

Let's take out 2 decent bowlers from NZ line-up and see what they talk about... (each time they lose :P)

Oh wait, NZ ain't got any decent bowler :yk

The thing is people will never stop talking about Amir!

Haha yeah i know..generally with this team my hopes tend to stay down.

Just excited to see what sort of impact Irfan will have on these pitches. If he gets in rhythm and hits good areas..he can cause damage.

I would get umar akmal in asap and razzaq for that matter as well. Get both in for next test. Both r gud players

I'm not bagging the guy, he's a great player and I'd love to see him back. I'm just sick and tired of seeing people on the forums bag him time and time again.

Good stuff from Shafiq. Playing towards mid on rather towards his favourite square leg region.

I like younus's mind set. He clearly has a plan to attack certain bowlers, and its a plan asad is aware of.
Expecting big from younus. Inshallah he'll deliver.

i find it disgusting that the 3rd umpire and match referee are listening in to the TV commentary. This definately had an influence in the last test.... and goodness only knows what sort of decisions billy is going to. ake after all this pandering from the commies.

Ajmal could come to good effect in the 4th innings, if pakistan manage to score some runs of course.

I think the broadcasters turn off the commentary when the decision is referred upstairs. I am not sure though.

Need to build a partmership until the second new ball, after which they should be settled enough to leave balls than to jump out at every single one.

Asad is playing well, just needs to cut out the shots where hes playing with an open blade square of the wicket,

Asad Shafiq must have one of the broadest cricket bats.

even if it is turned off... still not acceptable in my view. commentary has an effect in umpires mind. all the things being said and all the action, can influence the mind.

you can see it in the match thread too, where people will unwittingly just parrot what commentators are saying even though it might not be the reality.

umpire should just concentrate on game, why do they need to be distracted with commentary from biased people?

Apart from Tanvir ahmed who is very handy with the bat and should come in next we dont have very much batting left here!
