Pakistan thrash Cricket Australia XI by 196 runs in tour match

Good ol Malik, looks in good form. If he can play at a decent strike rate he will be an important player for Pak against the real Aus XI

Only if Malik had received better coaching, he'd be a gun middle order player for us. Constructs innings effortlessly when in his comfort zone.

Lost a lot of development time when he started as a specialist bowler (entire youth + first 4-5 years of domestic cricket).

He was 22-23 (if age is correct) when he made the switch.

Steve Smith is a rare example of someone who managed it well. Azhar Ali is iffy as he's very limited with his strokeplay after making the switch.

He performed best under Bob Woolmer

More down to lack of qualified coaches than anything else.

Agreed.

Used to be my favorite player in the team back then. He was electric in the field, humble, and an underrated allrounder making a name for himself.

Looked fantastic among the stars (i.e. Yousuf, Younis, Inzi, Afridi, Akhtar) as he was low key and well spoken.

Sadly never developed past that point.

If Shehzad or azhar ali were going at a strike rate of 60, everyone would be calling for their necks.

But its important for Babar to makes some runs to get some confidence after that horror show in the test series.

Good to see Shafiq fail. Well played Sharjeel. Azam in poor form, but fighting. At least he didn't get out. Malik as always feasting on noobs. Need to score quicker though.

Disappointing to see Babar play so many dots but at the very least, he is rotating the strike.

What's Babar's ODI SR again and what's theirs?

Yeah an in form Umar Akmal is what's needed in the modern ODI game.

If Akmal can come good, I think our batting will be in good shape.

I'm more worried about the bowling right now.
A lot rideable on Muhammad Amir and he hasn't delivered with wickets yet.

I have written before that I think Umar Akmal will feel challenged by the rise of his cousin Babar Azam, and will finally knuckle down and bat properly.

If that happens, Pakistan acquires two world class batsmen.

Is it a List A match, or like those jokes with 15 playing - 11 to bat, bowl & field?

I wish I could believe that Umar has anything that's about ego, status co, challenge, comparison with peer/cousin ..... self respect.

Hope you are right - because he is one of very few who proved me wrong.

We always lose wickets in clusters.. that's going to make it almost impossible to put up 300+ scores.
Can't keep taking time off to consolidate innings.

If we score 320 against these guys, we will score 280 against Aussie team. Hopefully we can bowl well.

Thornton has been impressive. Who's this guy? Convict @elipsism Looks a good prospect. He's been coached well.

CA XI actually have played a trick - they should have batted first. Even if PAK posts 400 & wins by 150, it doesn't prove anything. Any significance would have been CA XI posting 250 & PAK winning it inside 35-38 overs, with couple of batsmen retired not out.

No, century from top 4 after everyone settled, is a big issue. However, Umar was sent at 5 - that's 2 slots promotion in 3 years - at this rate, he'll definitely open in 2023 WC (If PAK still makes the final stage :()

Would rather have Babar open with Sharjeel in the future with Umar at 4. Haris at 3
