ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has decided to invite former Indian Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh to inaugurate the historic Kartarpur Corridor on the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Sahib celebrations in November.
In a video statement on Monday, Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi said Islamabad has decided to invite Manmohan Singh after consultations with all stakeholders.
The foreign minister underscored that the Kartarpur Corridor opening was a special occasion and Pakistan wanted the former Indian prime minister to be part of the historic moment.
A formal invitation will be extended to the Congress leader as well, said FM Qureshi.
Kartarpur will be the first visa-free corridor between Pakistan and India.
It will provide millions of Sikhs and others the opportunity to visit the shrine of Baba Guru Nanak, located on the Pakistani side. The corridor is being opened despite current tensions between Pakistan and India over the Kashmir dispute.
