Logic dictates that you win the toss and you bowl...But I'm a little concerned about the wet outfield...It could be a good toss to lose...

Time will tell...

Weather update from NW7 (15/20 mins drive from Lords)

Hello kids! I'm at the ground, eating kebabs with biryani to follow, as promised! Weather so gloomy but holding up, overcast but I don't think it will rain for a while. Can see afridi up in the balcony, awesome! Just saw Ijaz Ahmed bowling Vattey to butt in the nets! Inshallah it play will start at some point and it will be fantastic!

I hope the match starts soon and you have a good time in the ground!
Keep us updated!

Good to see. .. pakistanis went to see the match...

this live updates here are really good .. :)

I hope PAk are aware that they actually could beat this Aus side - full of inexperienced

new cuptaan, new line up, new players, new coaches...I am sure our players dont think highly of themselves at this moment.

another question...If you pick a specialist spinner on top of a spinning allrounder, then surely you're setting yourself up to bat first?

They turned up to the right ground and on time. More updates when we get them

Are you sure mate. This is Pak we're talking about!

i would never ever bowl first on any sort of pitch..We cant chase anything in 4th inns..Even if we post less than a200 ,I would still give my team a chance to win the test but batting second,NO WAY!

10.40am Oh dear. This is not great news. The inspection we've just had has yielded nothing but another inspection at 11.15am.

Well in subcontinental pitches batting second isn't ideal, but If the wicket doesn't change that much (which might be te case here) it is not end of the world if you bat second.

But the problem with Pakistan is that even though they bowl first and get 2-3 early wickets, then at least two of the Australians (hussey one of them) will occupy the crease and at the end of day they will still be able to put 300+ on the board, and that is where Paksitan will struggle batting second.

If u r talking about AFridi and kaneria... AAFRIDI is just making a comeback in test match arena after 4 years.. relying on afridi spin will be too much...with 3 or even 4 pacers at lords wickets... over cast coditions are temporary... next day or 2.. u ll get the different weather..

Pak should bat first .. even if its overcast ..lords will be flat .. and except johnson ..all other bowlers are very inexperiecned.

just remember ITS A FLAT PITCH

When's the last time 3 leg spinners played in a test match ???

According to sky it last happened in 1987.

Btw salam everybody.

Even though I know Pakistan have very little chance against the Aussies, I couldnt sleep and stayed up all night waiting. i hate the rain.

any news about if Pakistani players are wearing traditional baggy test caps ??? or crap baseball stuff ???

Grr, I'm so annoyed

I canceled my plans so that I could catch the opening session of the match and I get this!

I don't get why they don't just have the toss right now while everyone is waiting, instead of waiting for these 'inspections' to happen? We could get started right after a successful inspection then

with your negativity, you should be sitting with your head somewhere the sun doesnt shine to stop that kinda sh1t comin out ur mouth.

Last week was absolute gorgeous and today it feels like a dull cold autumn day stupid english weather!

CAN PAKISTAN TOP ORDER SURVIVE if we bat first.... ? under these over cast conditions. on a fresh pitch?

Because that would be unfair. The toss should and does happen only when start of play is imminent and 10 minutes away. Otherwise, whole day could be washed out today - why do toss and make a decision today when conditions tomorrow or later could be completely different? That would impact not just decision after toss but team selection.

Hence, much fairer to delay both till play start is confirmed, in the umpires' view.

it gives unfair advantage of giving possible extra preparation for the match based on toss. I asked the same on cricinfo once.

Just to clear things up for a few people - its not rain, its the bad light thats causing the delay

Guyz cricinfo is making us fool, the field is Ok now but the match delayed due to Bad light.

Your arguement is valid for other subscontinental teams not for Pakistan though..Remember what happened in Sydney 6 months ago and in dunedin 7 mnnths ago..WE SIMPLY CANT CHASE ANYTHING!

That makes sense. Thanks for the clarification

mm thats a long time

IIRC, four leg spinners played the Sydney test between Pakistan and Australia when we went there in 2005 or 06. Warne, Macgill, Kaneria and Afridi

Weather update from NW7 (15/20 mins drive from Lords!)

still very overcast and dark...no rain though...

Can't see any breaks in the clouds so god knows when the light will improve!
