i dunno, I like this asad shafiq.. from what i've seen of his innings today (brief as it was) he has a good technique and seems to have a decent head aswell... imo, better opinion technique than umar amin!

Fair point - but we would castigate Butt because (i) Butt has been playing cricket for 7 years at the top level, under the world's best coaches...he has no excuse for not knowing any better! ... and (ii) he is a serial offender.

As Umar is just a newbie, and one who has no track record in silly or pathetic run-outs, it would be harsh to be similarly critical of him just yet.

At most, it was a mistake by Umar; but very unfortunate that the unsporting and pathetic conduct of the Bangladeshis turned the mistake into a dismissal.

I agree with everything in your post, but the bolded part.

You are making international cricket to be some form of defect-free contest. Yet, people like Sanga (remember not given Afridi a runner less than a week ago?) exist, and this is part and parcel of the game.

knowing how the pcb works I doubt we will see him again considering his not on the England tour. The series a fter is against SA will they still remember him?

Your Salman Butt comparison isn't valid.
That was a case where he was OUT of his crease and in danger being runout. India had every right to have a shy at the stumps. In this case, Amin had made his ground and was IN when Bangladesh made their appeal. If Butt was in the same situation I don't think that many people would have a go at him.

This was Salman in 2007, T20 WC analogy, which was mentioned earlier in this thread.

Harsh on Yousuf he was perfect at nudging singles around at this time of the innings just as Younis was.
That's a myth, especially as far as Moyo is concerned, who was very BAD in terms of wasting balls.

YK was better than Moyo but he was always a very bad starter and always wasted balls early on. But he sometimes made up for it, Moyo almost never did.

I am glad neither is in the limited over teams.

Yeah, realised I mis-read. Was distracted by the wicket lol.

Can't remember the game you're referring to though.

I think it was Bangla game aswell - I think I may have typed India by mistake aswell.

There's a video in one of Monsee's threads. :butt

From Cricinfo

Shakib might be bowling well, but Miraz is not happy with that run-out. He draws a contrast with Mohammad Rafique. Miraz writes: "This is shameful and against the spirit of the game. Shakib should be penalised by the Bangladesh team management for this deceitful act. Remember Mohammad Rafique? He was a true sportsman and called back Umar Gul when whipping off the bail could have resulted in Bangladesh's first Test win at Multan, Pakistan. True sportsman seems to be a rarity now a days.

He was one of our better ODI bats we have had and I for one would love someone to replicate what he has done for Pakistan cricket. Although I do agree he was quite lazy in terms of running etc

Afridi has stripped his game down against the spinners. Effective so far though.

Ramiz saying the 'finished product' will be shown in 6-8months! :)))

I can't explain it but there's something not just right in Waqar Younis's combination of shorts, sleeveless shirt, and white longish socks.

Whts with Akmal and this compulsive sweeping?

If he had done this much sweeping in his locality, it'd be sparkling clean by now :P

its good that all the pakistani batsmen have got starts, but disappointing that they have given their wickets after that. This is what the team needs to rectify, to carry on after getting a start!

Afridi really has stepped it up as a batsmen in this tourney which is great to see! :14:

Bangladeshi Officials will not take any action against this. Because, Bangladeshi officials always feel happy when they see some injustice happening against the Pakistanis.

Very Sad but True... :po:

If these two are in at end Pakistan could create some real carnage!
