You know that the first four Pakistani batters all made 50 plus, right?

:))) :)))

Yup that pretty much sums up the pitch right there. Especially considering the first three batsman were named Butt, Farhat and Iqbal. :))

People are thinking too far ahead, we are still effectively 30 for 3 which is really a not a good position to be in, if you see it in the overall circumstances

and with such a brittle line up, anything can happen within a matter of minutes so it is highly important that pak plays risk free cricket

we are not out of the wood at all. These two need to stay thru the end of the day

right, 3 of them got out in 60's so next time omar needs to skip 60 and directly to 70's
Omar can go from 59 to 61 in two deliveries.

But honestly any time Pakistan top four score 50 each, it has to be the deadest of tracks.

At the end of 116 overs;

NZ were 378/6 @ 3.25
Pak are 278/3 @ 2.39
Similarly at the end of the 66th over:

NZ were 149/5 @ 2.25
Pak were 151/2 @ 2.28

NZ were chasing a low total so they had the confidence to accelate (plus it was Vettori and McCullum then), whereas Pak had Faisal and Yousuf and they are never going to play fast, plus they were still well behind NZ.

and we have won the match too. May be our bowlers are good on flat track

Can't rely on Akmal to be a dependable test batsman...better fit for the shorter version of the game...against good bowling sides UA would be exposed big time...

That's the way to play. If you get a ball to hit, hit it. And play with bat. Play with intentions to score on every ball. Play like Ponting. Play like Umar.

UA?

People are too quick to write NZ off. If we lose these umar/yousuf wickets, we will be ending at 100 AO which NZ will cruise at.

Umar needs to realize that he's no permanent fixture in the playing XI. He has to play according to the situation and at the moment we only need about 4 runs an over which can be achieved via singles and the odd four off the loose balls.

Look the way Pakistan have been batting, Had they always been this determined, shows our team can bat!

I think he should play his natural game

Yep, they have upper hand until we build 150 lead with no more than 4 wkts down. Only advantage we have is they will be getting tired soon.

I'd say on merit he is the only permanent fixture in the team. Not in the 'seniority' culture prevalent in our team though.

We have to bat very sensibly till one hour start of play tomorrow. Then we can think about exploding and scoring like there is no tomorrow.

Yousuf has to bat all the way. He has to score a double if he wants any respect earned from this series.

If you give them a dead pitch ... of course they can bat. Only problem is that Darryl Tuffey can bat too!

The difference between Umar and say a Malik or a Misbah is that Umar looks to score, and the latter too don't. They are too defensive and timid.

akmal man, hes hitting it in ALL the gaps!

wonderful!PURE control over his shots and a REAL gem

Spot on ... he can't play like someone he isn't. He's flamboyant and thats whats made him successful so far. Its the exuberance of youth. He can bat like Misbah when he gets to that age!

Spot on - people think test's are all about playing defensively BUT its not. Its about playing each balll as it deserves to be, if a ball is there to be hit then just hit the damn thing

Seriously though, Tuffey was out at least two times before the innings ended. Had some catches been taken it could have been 3+ times, not to mention how many close calls he had in the first 20 odd runs of his innings.

3/50 at the moment with Butt, Farhat and Iqbal out ... I would have settled with that most times!
