Thats not true, herath got more spin earlier on in the game. Herath's economy rate was lower too. Ajmal has had a poor innings so far.

61 overs left in the day, 1st session belonged to SL, if we don't get 2-3 wickets in the 1st hour after lunch, this match will be a lost cause...SL looking set to draw which will be equivalent to a win for them! need a magical spell from someone :junaid
 
Does Pakistan have the mettle to produce something magical to win this match
 
Flat Pitches are not an excuse, Pakistan were in the driving seat, i expected a lot better from Gul atleast. We dont have the bowlers who make the batsman **** themselves.
 
Why blame Shafiq? He wasnt picked for the test matches in Zimbabwe, he has been forced to play for himself, he knows at the back of his mind this is the only chance he will get and hence he must make the most of it.
 
need to get them out in the next session to have an outside chance. I know that we cant chase 170 in 29 overs. :(
 
Hafeez should be made to walk back to Dubai for his pathetic fielding, has taken certain victory from Pakistan.
 
I think Ajmal has to take a certain amount of the blame here, pretty poor stuff from him.

Bowlers have already bowled 10 wicket taking deliveries in this heat. 5 catches dropped. Prasana jayawerdene's catch was the easiest one and we can't hold onto such catch we deserve this.

Hafeez dropped Thirimanne twice on 40-odd, who didn't go on to make too many more runs. You can't blame it on that, maybe if he got out then jayawardene would have gotten settled instead of getting out for 4?

Bowling has not been consistent and tight enough second innings to get wickets on such a flat wicket. Only Gul and Junaid have bowled well throughout.
 
The biggest drop was Jaya (Wicketkeeper) at the back end of the inns yesterday. To have a new batsmen facing the new ball with only 3-4 overs to go was vital.
 
Nobody blaming the batsman? The slow run rate in pak innings is helping lanka greater than those drop catches.

Pak scored their runs at 2.92 runs an over. SL scored first innings at 2.65, and so far in the second innings at 2.80 runs an over. Apart from asad's little innings (and even then I understand his initial approach a bit) we can't blindly blame our batsmen who scored over runs 500 runs for the loss of 5-6 wickets. The pitch is slow, outfield is slow, and ground is large. Not easy to score.

yeah.... 5 is too many. Sanga and those catches is nearly taking the match away from pakistan. Though had the run rate a little bit more in pak innings, lanka would have need to survive a much longer time and with the lead pak had, it would have been a strong winning position. I hate to see a team coming so close and then become a draw.... (i am for lanka but still.... Pak played beautifully, outplayed lanka and deserves to win this).

No.. Batsmen did there role perfectly. You have to play according to your strengths and weaknesses. Pak bat line up is not very stable and experienced and had they gone to up the rate, it could easily crumble as well. They ensured no such collapse and were enough time left on the match for the bowlers. Still, they can win.
 
If Pakistan can't snare either batsmen after an hour, it's game over I feel.

osse bhai, let's look from this perspective. Lanka scored at 2.65 but they couldn't even bat 1 full day. So that is out of the equation (from time reference). Now, lanka 1st innings was only 197.... Not even 200.... So a more positive approach would have ensured that lanka has to bat more for a longer time and with the lead pak had, it would have been a piece of cake.... Pak took too much time to declare or to make that lead.

agreed upto an extent. Pak has solid middle order with misbah leading from the front. So i feel a little bit aggresive approach should have been there as lanka's 1st innings score was only 197.... Even if it crumbles, pak would have no problem crossing this mark....
 
Pak need to be a little douche-y sometimes. Talk a little crap to the batsmen, let the umpire know he effed up, etc.

Junaid and Gul are both less tired and more threatening, why aren't they on??
 
One thing is for sure, however calm misbah may be. He is not looking to take wickets and not developing pressure by giving away free singles.
 
Ajmal just leaking runs. Not looking threatening at all on a day 5 pitch.
