What's new

Pakistan v West Indies | 1st Test (D/N) | Dubai (DSC) | Oct 13-17, 2016 | Day 1

Azhar has looked to be more aggressive since his hundred, Pakistans team score should be atleast 300 by close of play

Sami didn't look that great out there, needs to start building up his confidence now or he will get hammered in Australia.

Batted very slow

Literally no attacking shots

Definitely a bit on the slow side, but he's very mature for his age and has great technique. Thought he attacked the spinners well at times. I'm sure with time he will improve his strike rate and make these starts count, in shaa Allah.

Ofcourse not complaining

I'd take this over the clowns we have had

Also if he can give us solid starts and hold one end up in Australia like he did in 3rd test in England then that would be awesome

Hasn't really been much in the pitch for the spinners, will be interesting to see how yasir and nawaz go when they bowl

These days the tests against windies are making for really poor viewing. And even during the Ind - WI series it felt like a drag although India did try to spruce things by giving up their wickets easily. But in general there seems to be very little fight from the windies in test matches.

The intensity seems to be lacking and hence it makes for poor one sided borefests. You can almost predict that these guys are gonna lose the match before it even gets underway.Hence imho there shouldn't be more than 2 games in a series regarding the WI.

And it's not like I have a thing against Pak but in general if there is no fight then not only it is boring for neutrals but it becomes a drag for the two sides' participating fans as well.

Pakistan 228/1 should be aiming for 500+ here on 1st inns

Asad looking to be very aggressive here with some of his shots

True. Any Shehzad, Hafeez or Khurram can score in these conditions, which is why I rate Sami based on his excellence against the new ball in England. It should be clear to all neutral observers that the aforementioned hacks wouldn't stand a chance against the new ball in England with their nonexistent techniques.

Azhar Ali was playing pretty quick after his ton but seems to have gone into a block now after the cramps. Looks like he's looking to be not out by the end of the day and get a double hundred tomorrow.

Azhar misses out on two long hops from bishoo, then slashes one past the slips

It's not about condition, it's about approach towards game - About of cricket you play.

AUS are ruthless, which I'm afraid we aren't.

More pace on Australian pitches where ball comes onto bat nicely. We showed at The Oval on a surface with pace and bounce we could bat at a good rate.

These UAE wickets are so slow so timing the ball isn't as easy.

Curator could've helped protect it more with some live grass. This is such an abrasive surface.

The areas surrounding the pitch are pretty lush though. At Sharjah, which probably has a more abrasive pitch and outfield, last week apparantly it was worse, with the ball scuffing up badly by the 40/50th over.

It's funny how with all the money and technology in the game they still can't come up with a decent ball that can be used in conditions like these.

DAMNNN This outfield is SOOO SLOWWWW!!

It took an age to get to the boundary and Asad slashed it with all his might lol. In England these were racing to the boundary

True, however, RR also goes down if batsmen don't show any intend to play shots and make runs. Which we've seen all day today.

Yeah he is, but his technique is soo good. :moyo :shafiq

I know you are being sarcastic but his technique IS good. And he's quite good to watch if you know anything about batting aesthetics.

I actually look forward to watching him bat whenever Pakistan bats. This is smthing you don't say about many Pak batters.

Naa I wasn't being sarcastic. I like watching Shafiq bat too.

Lol cue Bangla fans descending down with anger on Rameez raha

Pakistan must rise above and totally dominate IMO. Against opposition like the windies when you are in a good position you must play positively and kill the game totally so that the opposition is totally demoralized.

I was just thinking along those lines. We need a quick scoring batsman in our middle order. Babar is one. Umar can be another if he can sort his issues out.
What's the point of a 25(25) in a test match?

I hope we end up with sth 650/2 and then declare and win by innings??

BTW have we ever won by an innings under Misbah?

The outfield on this ground is pathetically slow, new ball can be taken now 249/1

I believe after the England series this should have been a cake walk for pak but they seem to be respecting windies bowling attack more than necessary.

Ramiz with possibly the lamest joke of the year #strawberry

First day of series with first pink ball and first day night test

No harm in being a bit cautious to begin with

Got to give it to you boys for watching such a dull match. It's hard to maintain interest when the stadium is near empty.

It's a fascinating test match

I've watched more overs today then I did in the whole one day and t20 series put together

You guys have already enough on the board. Lol these hacks won't even be able to score this many in two innings.

This idiots are not even smart enough to learn - they are bowling with same length & now has put a sweeper cover with 2nd ball!!!!

Why does this pink ball look more shiny than the red ball ever did?

Like even near the end there was shine whereas red ball loses it in 15-20 overs max

I don't know if you can call it fascinating tbh. There doesn't seem to be enuf class in the opposition lineup to really challenge you lot. Maybe from a stats perspective or enjoying the batting but that's it tbh.

Pakistan needs to improve running between the wickets, azhar is awful at times

Noticed it almost all day today whenever I watched. Their length is not troubling at all.

I'm enjoying it being under lights and pink ball

Prolly novelty aspect

And tbh it's not every day that you see Pak 250 odd for loss of just one wicket

I know it has become a cliche to say so but I think Umar is a better batsman than that or he can be.

Yes but he should only be recalled if there is some basis for it (sustained domestic performance)

Not because posters feel like it

Well that's certainly there but wish it was against a more worthy opponent.
