What's new

Pakistan v West Indies | 1st Test (D/N) | Dubai (DSC) | Oct 13-17, 2016 | Day 3

That compilation shows why Sohail is a must for English and New Zealand tours, bowls ideal length for those conditions.

Following the match on cricinfo, seems that Sohail's last over comprised 6 short balls. The ball is 72 overs old; was it merely lobbing up after pitching or was there some semblance of threat to the tactic?

Looked like some good bouncers to me.

I don't think you can give that out, not enough clear evidence.

I think that has hit pad first but there is not enough evidence is there to overturn the infield decision

Yasir has been hit for fours 2nd most times out of all of the bowlers of both teams. That's something really alarming. He really needs to get his line and length right and start turning the ball consistently.

Plus they had to back up the on-field Jobberpire's decision, what would be interesting though; what would the 3rd umpire have decided had the on-field decision been out

Yup true! That would have made things interesting.

In theory it should have remained out, however, the decision tends to go in the batsmens favour in such 50/50 instances.

Yup - and IMO that's the very reason we should have kept batting & declared half way through Day 3.

Anyway - we are half way through day 3 now and in the last 20 mins or so both Yasir and the seamers seem to be getting some help from this ball and this pitch. There's still plenty of time left in this game - let's see how things go.

If we declared Halfway through day 3 then that would've been a draw for sure. The pitch isn't going to turn into some minefield on day 4 and 5 magically. It's a road and will remain a road with maybe a few cracks. It's good they declared when they did because wickets are going to come slowly here with a combination of perseverance and batsmen making mistakes.

Nope, the pitch will break up more in day 4 and further more in day 5.

Not about becoming a mind field - it's about the pitch offering something to the bowlers at all!

In the last half hour or so we have started seeing Yasir getting a bit more spin from the pitch which makes him a bit more prone to picking up Wickets.

Yesterday night and this morning we gave WI a chance to score 150 odd runs easily on a flat track.

At this rate the game is likely to end in a draw as I said in my last post. If WI bat for another day, we will find both teams playing for a draw, with no chance of a follow on. However, if Pak Israh made it impossible that they will need to bat again in this game, we would have had a better chance to force a result IMO.

Supper time.

Pakistan need at least 2-3 more wickets tonight to have a chance of enforcing a result on a placid track.

Another edge and no second slip, this has happened many times.

I know Misbah is a great captain but this is baffling.

However, I would love to see the backbone of the WI batting broken today with them being 5-6 down by stumps.

hopefully the new ball can bring a couple of wickets. and Yasir to sort out the lower order.

Almost guaranteed to be a draw. May as well call the match off right now.

Windies should target another 150 runs without losing more than 2 wickets. They can take the game towards a draw from that point. Misbah n co will be hoping for a collapse.

There are still 210 overs left in this match.

Only 2 hours left of day three. Only three wickets down in the second innings like they were in the first. Would be amazed if Pak won, Windies have no chance of victory.

None of the Pakistani bowlers can swing the ball both ways atm.

There are 2 whole days left - the pitch will scuff up and deteriorate, batting can only get harder from here.

They are likely to draw unless pitch starts turning dramatically

2 days left.

Do you remember Abu Dhabi last year ? That was even flatter and we almost had a result if it wasn't for bad light.

I think Amir should try to unsettled Bravo by firing a bouncer like he hit him in ODI, because he's playing without any bother atm.

Feel like Darren Bravo's potential is being wasted at the Test level, he'd thrive in a better set up with a professional cricket board.

His wicket is always the key for me and at times Marlons to, Bravo is the Misbah of the WI's batting line up; the glue which is holding them together and many a time it's just not enough unfortunately.

The guy averages 50+ away from home. He should really be up there with the likes of Smith, Root and Williamson but his home record lets him down.

I tuned in to see Kohli feast on placid wickets

Expected reply from you. If you have watched last 2 series of WI against us and England you would understand why I said Blackwood is an aggressive player. You carry on with your anti Indian rants.

I guess you're not watching the game.

Sohail has swung it and Amir has done in the afternoon and doing it now too.

Read my post again.

Yes they can swing the ball in one direction but not in the other direction.
