I should have give more clarification, since ODI scoring rules/trends have changed lot since 1975. 187 in 30 overs doesn't look that tough when the per score is 300 (that means you are 113/3 after 20 overs.

Rather, what I have seen is teams can't accelerate more than 1.5 times of 1st 20 overs including PP. That's if you are 100/3 after 20 (at 5), max you can expect to reach is 325 (225 in last 30 at 7.5), while chasing this will be a bit lower.

Here 80/3 after 20 is like 4.00, next 30 overs in chase, expectation should be 180 (@ 6 max), which still 7 short. I think, PAK has to reach 89-91/3 at least to chase this target; 80/3 won't work.

This equation now changes to like 96-98/4 after 20. I actually plotted about 200 such scores in a linear program and ran a quarry for the curve - optimum point after 4 wickets came around 1.2 times (120%) of scoring rate after 20 overs, if you are 4 down. A similar index they use for DWL (& WASP), which is quite reliable.
