What's new

Pakistan vs Zimbabwe | 4th ODI | Faisalabad | 30/01/08 |

An analysis by Cricinfo writer, sums up our captain supremo perfectly:

Faras ponders aloud: "Surprising how Malik is persisting with himself and Afridi instead of trying his new bowlers, something he has repeatedly talked about throughout the series."

That's exactly right, why would you bowl Afridi when he has gone for 47 in his 8 overs, why don't you try Sohail and see what he can do with old ball. That's pretty stupid from Malik, he should stop bowling and give Sohail a few overs.

Sohail Khan to Price, OUT, Ah! here comes the yorker. It is full, fast and swings in late. The bat is late in coming down and the off stump is pegged back. Never mind the speed gun that showed it as 112 kmph, surely you must be kidding me? Peach of a yorker. Keeping up with the great Pakistan tradition.
RW Price b Sohail Khan 7 (8b 0x4 0x6) SR: 87.50

Here is the first one for Sohail, hopefully there are many more to come.
Got his first wicket off a yorker and looks like speed gun is faulty so his pace on a slow wicket could wel be more than what speed gun has shown so far:D

Malik you STUPID captain, why did you try to be smart and decided to bowl the 50th over yourself???

49.4 Shoaib Malik to Dabengwa, SIX
49.3 Shoaib Malik to Dabengwa, 2 runs, Where does this one go? It has been slog-swept to wide midwicket region
49.2 Shoaib Malik to Dabengwa, SIX, Now the big hit down the ground. He charged down the track, got under the ball nicely and swung it over long-on.
49.1 Shoaib Malik to Dabengwa, FOUR, slow through the air, down the leg side and is swept fine to the boundary

18 runs off the first 4 balls

This should teach Malik a lesson that he is no Saqlain!

49.4 Shoaib Malik to Dabengwa, SIX, Another one that disappears over the boundary. Malik went round the stumps but sends down a long hop and he pulled it over the ropes. Good late charge by the Zimbabweans

Dabengwa runout as Zimbs finish with a decent score of 244

Good challenging total to chase so hopefully our young batsmen can all score a few runs.

You dont get it do you.

200 or less wouldnt have been enough to test our batting, even 250 isnt enough. Malik needed to do something to help get the target up as high as possible. Bowling himself was a master stroke!!

Tanvir and Kamran both had overs left, one of them should have bowled the last over.

Malik did this purposely, just so that the youngsters can test themselves, and have a good score to chase!

Selfish Malik must have thought that he could pick up another wicket because Zimbabwe didn't have any hitters, so they will just slog blindly. Well, Debangwa had a surprise for him.

whats the obsession with speed???

i can name 10 bowlers presently playing who regster higher speeds and have done so since their debut....in fact each of the major test playing nations possess atleast one faster bowler in their line-ups...india have pathan who is is already faster...

at present s.khan looks like a 135-140kph bowler
I couldn't give 2 shits about speed; Asif is my favorite bowler at the moment, a true joy to watch. All I'm saying is that the local speed guns aren't accurate and that coupled with the deathly slow wickets understate Sohail Khan's speed. If he was bowling in South Africa I would have no doubt that his speed is closer to the 145+ range.

excellent decision, even if it was unintentional!

agreed...there does seem to be a problem with the speed gun

well honestly , it shouldnt be a good run chase... it should be an easy run chase and they can make a match out of this than thats just sad.

Jamshed gone to a blinder of a catch!

18/1 - gone for 11

Malik sends himself in surprise surprise, would he do this against australia?

Well, perhaps if you knew a little history of racial abuse in England then you'll understand why the word is offensive.

Waqar talks about a fiery spell by Marshall on this very ground. "I was so scared to go and face him that in my nervous tension I held the bat too tightly and kept banging it so hard while taking strike. And the bat broke!"

Again, he's a little unlucky! Not sure what else he could have done with that ball...maybe play it a bit straighter around the midwicket region?

Looks like Khalid Latif has told himself that he's not going to get out no matter what happens. Would be nice if he could look to rotate the strike a bit.

Congrats Pak..Khalid Latif...hmm..looks like u got what u've been praying for all this while..
a right handed version of salman butt..

This is why Mailk should always bat at 3; he naturally looks to go after the bowling.

i have to agree it suits him to bat at 3.....he can build a innings by starting off nicely

Well lets see if he bats number 3 v Aussies!

This is zimbo we are playing!

if u remember bob woolmer expermented with him at 3 in the asia cup...he was a sucess but after a bit he had an injury. and once he came back his position at 3 was taken by younus

He's batting at 3 only because Younis isnt playing, if Younis plays vs the Aussies then he wont.

Sikandar Bakht criticized Latif for his cross batted lofted shot over Mid On (2 overs ago)...I don't see too much improvement in his technique after 3-4 years; he is still a hit everything to leg side player, from what I have seen so far!

If the ball is on off stump, he just defends it!

Sikandar is right in saying that an opener should play as straight as possible in the first 10-15 overs...where can we find a decent opener; Sikandar did say positive things about Khurram Manzoor who was on the field with drinks since he is the 12th man

isnt that mushy?

I don't think Latif has scored a single run on the off side. All of his runs have been of flicks or cross-batted swipes.

Mushy is the one with Beard...Sikandar is the skinny Pak commentator; only thing skinny about Mushy is probably his 'Angreizi' :P

Just as I typed my post about Latif; he played a cross batted flick on the lg and Sikandar again criticized him for playing such a poor shot!

Against a good in-swing bowler, Latif will be a walking wicket!

Latif...is not too promising..Nxt player pls!..

Pak's real find of the series have to be Sohail Khan and Jamshed so far

there was alot of talk of him...im surprised....LOL and hes out. just as i was typing about him

Fitting that he gets out to an ugly swipe. Looks out of his depth, I'm afraid to say.

Seems like khalid latif is more suited for Test matches. he has good technique and he can stay long. Not enough shots though

And here is the proof, he goes for a lofter Leg Side swap...gets caught and Sikandar rightly asks why he played the shot especially when he already was given a life earlier!

Pak, please play Khurram Manzoor in the last game instead of this hit all on leg side idiot!

14.1 Mpofu to Khalid Latif, OUT, The cross batted swipe has done him in. Sikander Bakht sighs in the commentary box! It was full and outside off stump and Latif swiped it across the line and straight to deep midwicket.
Khalid Latif c Williams b Mpofu 19 (42b 2x4 0x6) SR: 45.23

So, what do you say now about Latif the Mighty Giant Opener? :P

As predicted, he is a hit everything on leg player a la Naved Lateef

Monsee,

Its his 1st odi at this level am willing to see if he can improve as a player before righting him off!

With afaq raheem and khurram mazoor doing well option postions are up for grabs!

Test player?????I thought his technique is dodgy given the way he played on the offside ,I think he best suited to FC cricket thats all.
and this will remain same even if he score a ton in the next match.

In all likelihood, Nasir will be dropped for Manzoor instead.

aj, knowing the league you play in, have you ever played on such a flat track, and moreover, irrespective of faulty speed gun at the ground, surely even you have played against more intimidiating bowlers!! listen even i would back myself to survive against such mediocrity and on such a track...

I can predict, after watching him play and after listening to Sikandar's comments...that he does not want to learn at all; he is still at the same level he was in the U19 WC!

Just as I type this, even Zaheer Abbas says the same about his shot selection!

You can give him 100 chances, but if he has no shots except just hit everything to leg and defend everything on the off...he will fail big time under testing conditions and against stronger oppositions

Ditto, couldn't have said it any better!

and rightly so...any coach at even decent club level in uk would kick such a player out until he learns his lesson...

Immy,

I agree 100% that on such a flat track he should have faired better however, Pakistan players tend to be under-developed when they come into the team. Players in pakistan sadly need to be coached and improved. Why discard a player after 1 match?

Wouldnt it be better to see if he could be coached to improve?

Or should we recall hafeez, Farhat again?
