Anyone can dab and run but that is risky and it will not get you 8-9 an over. Are you really saying Wasim Junior, Nawaz, Shadab, Shaheen can consistency place 6 out of 6 balls in an over in the gaps to score 2s and 3s? I don’t think so. They could maybe get 4-6 runs an over but certainly not 8-12!
Proper strike rotation is finding gaps and angles that will give you at least a few 2s and 3s in an over. But you need to understand field positions really well, place it very precisely, then judge the runs well, and run hard and smartly. Those angles are not easy to judge and the tail specially struggles with this.
It’s easier to clear your leg and swing for leather, whether it clears the boundary is another matter altogether.
In Pak’s team currently, only Babar, Rizwan and Shan seem to be able to get those 2s and 3s easily enough to accumulate 8-9 an over. specially Shan Masood.
I wouldn’t even include Cachu, Nawaz. Haris and Shadab to this list.
I don’t disagree with the strategy at the back-end in the MCG should have been 2s and 3s. I am just casting doubt on whether the personnel that were there in that situation had the skills to execute it. I really don’t think so. Maybe Shan could have had he stayed till the end.
