There has been a lot of talk about the performance of Pakistani batting vs Pakistani bowling.

A few of posters thought, we lost the series vs England because of our bowling. Other thought it was our batting - especially Babar's snails paced batting between 80-100 runs (for 20 runs) during that dreaded loss at Nottingham in 2nd ODI.

So I thought, let's keep track of our batting and bowling in this WC - as compared to other teams.

Just before Pak vs SL WC match:

It's too early in the tournament to make any definitive conclusions about either, but in between the last World Cup and this one, batting has definitely been Pakistan's stronger suit while bowling only really peaked during CT17; it's largely been a struggle besides that.

Would love to see how our bowling fares as the tournament progresses.

Right now - we are hoping that our batting will give us big scores to defend. Lets hope the final stats say that

Or ......... Some of the fans are hoping that our bowling will defend a reasonably good total that our batting will give us.

According to stats below (at the end of the day - June 8th), Batting S/R is 2nd best in the tournament.... but the bowling E/R is the worst.

In statistical terms;

On the average, our batting S/R rate of 99.30 will fetch us a team total of: 298 runs in 50 overs.
On the average, our bowling E/R rate of 6.84 will give away a team total of: 342 runs in 50 overs.

So ...... wonder what the common sense approach should be:

Does our batting needs to score 342 runs in an inning so our bowling could defend it - given our batting S/R is already 2nd best in the tournament?

or

Does our bowling needs to bowl economically to be able to defend a score of 298 - given out bowling E/R is the worst in the tournament?

Get ur runs on the board and take it from there. 2 games is not a sample set , where u are setting 298, one game we got bowled out in 20 overs ***!!

Our bowling used to be our strong point and helped us compete against other teams, now our bowling can no longer guarantee results

In the last 4 years, our bowling has declined and our batting has improved.

We have gone from a
weak batting/strong bowling line up
to
decent batting/decent bowling line up.

In conclusion
Our bowlers can no longer win us games when our batting fails.
We require both our batters and bowlers to perform decently, to be able to win games!
This you can argue is normality, both batters and bowlers have to peform and is the reason we are no longer unpredictable or mercurial. Which is a good thing!

It makes sense, batting has become easier and bowling has regressed in cricket due to the nature of the game now.

Pakistan needs a specialist spinner. Shadab is not a fully evolved spinner. Especially to wrest initiative in the middle overs like Shahid afridi or Ajmal used to do.

That is correct but then you measure your bowling or batting as compared to how other teams are doing. So far in the WC, our batting is at #2 but bowling is dead last.

Sri Lanka and Afghanistan are still batting at a Misbah-like S/R of 72/73.
