Babar is so far ahead it's comical. No reason Pakistan can't win tests, 1 batsman can only do so much.

If Abid Ali had stayed not out he would have averaged over 300 lol.

On a serious note, impressing stats for Babar Azam.

If you consider that Azhar and Shan’s stats have been boosted up until this innings today and before today they have averaged very low. Shows how Babar has been on his own with no support

Not really.

But I partly agree: to me the Gold Standard for a Test batsman is the ratio of:

Percentage of Innings Under 20 to Percentage of Innings Of 20 or More.

This is because if you score 20, you've basically been part of a partnership of at least 40 and possibly 50.

Shan Masood Percentage of 2019 Innings Over 20: 7/11 = 64%.
Babar Azam Percentage of 2019 Innings Over 20: 8/11 = 73%
Asad Shafiq Percentage of 2019 Innings Over 20: 6/9 = 67%
Haris Sohail Percentage of 2019 Innings Over 20: 0/3 = 0%
Azhar Ali Percentage of 2019 Innings over 20: 3/11 = 27%

There is a very clear tale here.

Pakistan currently has four batsmen who are reliably scoring at least 20 each time they go to the crease.

Abid Ali
Shan Masood
Babar Azam
Asad Shafiq

They also have three batsmen who are consistently failing to reach 20 when they go in to bat.

Azhar Ali
Haris Sohail
Imam-ul-Haq

You can possibly make an argument for retaining Imam-ul-Haq on the basis of youth and potential.

But if, like Azhar Ali and Haris Sohail, you are on the wrong side of the age of 30 and are failing in 73% and 100% of your innings respectively, it's unethical for you to be retained in the squad.

Haris just turned 30.

Haris just turned 30.

Sadly that's wrong - he's 31 in 17 days' time, and we all know that a lousy diet and smoking have aged him far beyond his official age.

More to the point, Haris Sohail has played the following innings since 1 November 2019:

4 v Australia, T20i
6 v Australia, T20i
8 v Australia, T20i
18 v Australia A. FC
4 v Australia A, FC
1 v Australia, Test
8 v Australia, Test
9 v Sri Lanka, Test

58 runs in his last 8 innings, with a highest score of 18.

Why would you keep picking a guy with the following profile:

1. 31 years old
2. Chronically unfit
3. Lifetime total of 744 Test runs
4. Lifetime Test average of 35
5. Scores in his last 8 innings for his country of 4-6-8-18-4-2-1-9.

That's not a list of scores for a candidate for the Test team. That looks more like a phone number!

Because the replacement for Haris right now is Fawad Alam.

Haris is better than Fawad. Do you really think Fawad will be successful in England against Anderson and co with his technique?

Haris already went to England, he played beautifully in England, and his technique was never a cause for concern.

You’re wrong about Haris Sohail in Tests in England. Very wrong.

This is what Haris Sohail did in his six Test innings in the British Isles

31
7
39
39 not out
28
8

6 innings
152 runs
Top score 39 not out
Average 30.40

His red ball record over there is quite poor actually.

In the same 3 matches Shadab Khan scored 171 runs in 5 innings at an average of 42.75, with 3 fifties.

The question is, will Fawad do better than Haris?

Shadab should play, as should one of Faheem Ashraf or Yamin.

My team for England:

Shan Masood
Abid Ali
Haris Sohail
Babar Azam
Shafiq
Usman Salahuddin
Rizwan
Yamin
Shaheen
Abbas
Naseem

All we are doing is making assumptions. Don’t know until he actually plays. He played well in Australia, South Africa and did decent in England.

I wouldn’t play Fawad or Azhar or anyone else over 33.

Pakistan is already 3rd in the World Test Championship and I would field this team in England and New Zealand:

1 Abid Ali
2 Sami Aslam
3 Shan Masood (c)
4 Babar Azam
5 Asad Shafiq
6 Mohammad Rizwan (wk)
7 Shadab Khan
8 Faheem Ashraf
9 Naseem Shah
10 Mohammad Abbas
11 Shaheen Shah Afridi

The Australian and Indian teams will be well past their best by June 2021. But this team could do very well.

I just don't rate Shafiq. How can you rate him?

Rest I don't mind. Not a big Sami Aslam fan. He too is 30.

Don;t know his real age but his fitness and performance makes him 5 years older. Mentally he is not a good sportsman , not fitness conscious.

I did come across an article in October that had a complaint against him, sarfraz and Wahab. Stating that Wahab and Haris making excuses to skip training and sarfraz refusing to take responsibility.

so...who has bets that if we dont get any tests vs bangladesh that Misbah will put Fawad in the test eleven vs englang in england.

Another list that goes to show how Babar is on another level compared to the rest.

Azhar's numbers have surely been inflated by yesterday's innings and he still averages less than 22. He is literally being as bad as Sarfraz with the bat.

If Haris is to be dropped than irrespective of the next series Fawad will come into playing xi. You cant pick and choose which team and where you get to play against.

Pakistan playing only 6 tests a year is pretty bad, you need to play at least 10 - 12 Tests a year . PCB should look into this.

Pak team historically plays 7-8 tests are year with the exception of few years in between. However, I agree with the suggestion that Pak needs to play more matches like Aus, Eng and India. It would become easier once more teams start touring Pak.

i would bet on fawad not being part of the squad to england.
i would place a bigger bet on fawad being part of squad but not playing a single game in england.

Fawad wont be dropped without being given an opportunity. When that opportunity comes in is anybody's guess.
