The wicket-keeper batsman in Pakistan's last T20I series was Mohammad Rizwan. He hasn't gotten a game in the PSL so far and struggled in recent T20Is. Clearly not ideal for the format.

Then, we have the other potential Pakistani wicket-keepers in this season of the PSL so far:

PlayerMatInnsNORunsHSAveBFSR1005004s6s
The most impressive one is a 40-year-old who has played one knock of note. The rest have been between mediocre and poor. Some people were mentioning Rohail Nazir, who is another batsman who doesn't seem suited to the format. And he hasn't been utilized by Multan Sultans either.

So who should Pakistan take to the T20 World Cup?

As much as I like Rizwan, T20s clearly isn't his format. Not interested in discussing Sarfraz as am opition as he isn't good enough.

Kamran Akmal has done well, but he is 40 and doesn't have a long term future. Also he has performed in domestic cricket before than flopped at international level.

We have a really difficult decision. I'm not really sure who to go for if I'm honest.

I'll never take Kamran Akmal as a wicket keeper. Even if he is picked, he should be picked only as a batsman.

As of now, I am left with Sarfaraz Ahmed as my choice. At the end of PSL, a clearer picture will be visible.

Azam and Khushdil havent kept in PSL so not sure about their keeping skills. Azam definitely has shown some impressive skills with bat but his lack of domestic experience and not keeping in PSL will come into play.

We already have Babar and Malik(Probably) to anchor the innings so what is needed is someone who can hit the ball.

While Zeeshan Ashraf havent played any big innings but I think he has some potential with the bat and looks to be a natural timer of the ball. Also atleast we have seen his keeping and looks pretty decent behind the stumps.

The only other option who can hit the ball is Kamran but his keeping skills and age do raise a few questions.

If Malik is gonna be in middle order I dont see how Sarfaraz or Rizwan will add much value in T20s but its not like we have a lot of options. Still target should be to have players who can enable Pak to score around 170 in most matches and I am not sure having 3,4 anchors will do the job.

Please can we remove Azam Khan from all lists going forward? (A guy averaging 13 in domestic should never ever be an option)

Take a chance with kamran akmal, it is a no brainer for me to be honest.

Rizwan is our best choice imo. Not the best player I know.

I know Fakhar’s only a part-time keeper but any chances of him keeping in WT20? We could definitely fill the middle order with another good batsman.

Kamran Akmal should be the keeper. If not, then recall Sarfaraz.

Rizwan doesn't seem good for T20.

It all depends if Pakistan take hafeez and malik if they do then il have to pick either kamran,Ashraf or azam

If only one if hafeez and Malik go then il take sarfraz

If hafeez and Malik go we cant have Sarfraz and they take time to get going and 3 players of similar strike rates wont win or get to semi

So some people want Kami, hasn't he been recalled many times before and how did that end. I would rather go for someone like Zeeshan, rather than this has been.

Kami is the most useless keeper there has ever been and should never play for Pakistan again.

Pakistan doesn't seem to be blessed with good keeper/batsmen and that has been the case for quite a while now.

All I'm asking for is a Pakistani version of Gilchrist.

Tough choice.

Some who are poor keepers.
Some who are poor batsmen.
Some who are a poor keeper and poor batsman.

No complete package at the moment.

Let me put you on the spot then . . World cup is coming up in 6 months. I have 2 questions for you:

Who is your pick?
and where in the batting order should he bat?

Maybe we can also have a poll . .

Other teams have at least 2 keepers in their playing XI and Pakistan struggling to select one even in the squad.

It is fairly obvious that Fakhar Zaman is unfit to play for Pakistan at the moment. Which means we need an opener as well as a wicket keeper. As much as it pains me to say this but the only person that fits the bill is Kamran Akmal. Rizwan and Sarfraz are both useless batsmen in t20s. And I don’t see any other option domestically that can step up to the highest level.

Kamran but if bhai Jann doesn’t play then he won’t play either ..... haha
Sarfraz is the only option l, with Babar being the less experience captain sarfraz can be useful at times. Play sarfraz at #4 and he will be fine

if it were up to me, i would let zeeshan ashraf have a crack at it... so far decent at keeping, can hit and has good potential, age is on his side and can at the least be groomed... i will have his quickfire 20-30 and him getting exp than an akmal... but its misbah we r talking about, expect something from way over left field and stupid....

Kamran has dropped multiple catches in this PSL and is simply a rubbish wicketkeeper.

They might have to settle for Sarfraz or Rizwan.

Sarfraz is the best option taking into account both keeping and batting. Kamran is better with the bat, but light years behind in terms of keeping. Can't go into the World Cup with a keeper who'll drop catches left and right.

..

Kami all the way!

Rizwan doesn't seem good for T20.

Not much to choose from. I’d pick Kamran Akmal

Welcome to the club. :najam

Exactly what I'd been trying to explain on PP:

Ultimately, it's a relative thing. We have to pick someone. And we can only pick from the available options in PAK.

It's either Rizwan, Sarfraz, or Kami. We cannot force Jos Buttler or some other keeper from a different country to play for PK.

We have to select Kami, not because he's the best in the world, but he's several leagues above Rizwan and Sarfraz as a WK/bat in T20 cricket. No spinners either in AUS.

It's a game of who's less mediocre, and who can smash the bowlers, give us quick starts.

Only Kami has that ability. He -can- do it, but others can't do it at all. We have to take a gamble on someone who is capable of it.

Even though it's a gamble. There's no guarantee Kami will hit a 50 or 100 in every match. But if he does fire, he'll win us matches.

Others can't do it even on their good days. And Kami's recent form is also pretty good, as shown in the OP.

I'd rather have Rizwan coming in at #8 then have Fat Akmal dropping 2 catches a game.

If Kami doesn't make it, then I'd hope that Rizwan stays away.

Sarfraz is better than Rizwan in T20 cricket any day of the week.

Again, we're talking relative terms here. Compared to international standards, Sarfraz is hopeless in LOIs.

Rizwan can continue to play ODIs and Tests for now.

I'd rather have Rizwan coming in at #8 then have Fat Akmal dropping 2 catches a game.

That is very exaggerated. Anyone can have a bad day, and they do. He has held onto very good catches.

20 overs, no rocket science, highly improbable that any catch will be dropped. Besides, a rare dropped catch isn't a huge deal, as long as Kami is able to give us quick starts.

Those quick starts have a lot more value.

As I said above, Rizwan is NO NO for T20 cricket. If Kami doesn't make it, Sarfraz is an option.

Even Zeeshan is an option, though has been very inconsistent.

I say we try Zeeshan. He’d be our opener alongside Babar. This gives us an option of adding someone else lower order.

The situation looks very bleak. There are no real options available. It would have been good if Zeeshan scored runs and pushed for the spot, he has failed, barring the fifty.

Out of the options, i'd pick Sarfaraz. I know, he is not amazing, but his keeping is better than Kamran's. Also, Kamran's batting is not good enough to compensate for his appalling keeping.

Has to be Sarfraz, only guy who can keep and averages more than 20. Kamran don't want to see him with the gloves ever again, only as a batsman if he returns. Wish Rizwan got more games to prove himself, but if he isn't even good enough to get into Karachi Kings, we can't select him.

They're all poor. Kamran's stats are padded due to that one innings, otherwise his average in 5/6 games is as bad as the others and his keepering skills we all know. His T20 average and SR is even worse than Sarfaraz's. Might as well take someone new.

Dropping someone like Glenn Maxwell, Ross Taylor, or Andre Russel will hurt the teams chances a lot more than any runs Akmal can make will benefit the team.

Akmal is hardly better than Sarfraz with the bat, but Sarfraz is easily 5 times the keeper. My pick as of now is Sarfraz. Shove him down the order at #8.

Spot on. Sarfaraz as bad he has been averages 28 vs 21 and has a SR of 128 vs 121 against Akmal. And is a much better keeper. I mean we aren't exactly spoilt for choice but there is no comparison with the 2. Both will probably fail us with their batting but only one will cost us when we are bowling too by dropping needless catches.

The way I see it is that regardless of who we pick as a WK/Batsman at this point in time, they ain’t gonna score runs against decent attacks in Aus. Hence, we’re better off going with the best keeper, which is Rizwan.

I seriously think the only young wicket keeper/batsman with great potential to become a very good T20 player is under 19 player Mohd Haris. Very aggressive batsman but don't know his keeping skills. If not for T20 WC, I'm sure he is someone to keep an eye on.

Its so sad Rohail Nazir is not playing PSL, being benched, but he is better than Sarfraz, Kami and Zeeshan . Zeeshan is the most useless.

Zeeshan Ashraf played in the 2nd XI edition of the tournament, where he was the man of the tournament.

He made 395 runs in 7 matches at an average of 66 and SR of 175 with 1 hundred and 3 fifties.

Kudshdil Shah for me. In 20/20, you wont get many overs to bat as a keeper so have to hit big when you have the chance. Shah is a capable six hitter & surely a better keeper than Kami?

Wow. How on earth can anyone name Khushdil, Bismillah?

They are duds. Can't bat. 130kph unsettles them. No offside game.

I hate it say it but besides Kami there is no other option at the moment. On a positive note, Kami can play short ball really well and we know SENA bowlers will pepper our barbies with short stuff.

Kamran Cant hold a ball in these tracks and people expect him to catch one in Australalia.

He should not even be in contention. Its between sarfraz and rizwan and the latter has no psl performanes.

Personally would stick with Rizwan or try Zeeshan Ashraf but he's not having a great continuation of the tournament. But would stick with Rizwan overall.

With the basic chances Kami is missing, he shouldn’t even be in contention for the keeper slot.

It’s between Sarfraz and Zeeshan. If Zeeshan pulls out that one innings in the remaining game, he’s in.

Who's your pick? :babar

It seems like Rizwan will go for T20 world cup without playing a single match, all other so called keepers are getting exposed in PSL right now

You can't take Akmal he will cost you so many games and I am not referring to his drop catches I'm also referring to his batting he won't do well on the international stage and this is a proven fact. It's a shame because when he started his career he looked very solid as a batsman and some shots he played were pure gold but he doesn't have it and his keeping is garbage as well. Some were saying he should be selected as a batsman only but we saw how Kamran the fielder was too during pak tour of West Indies he dropped a lot of catches their too

Pak need to go with Zeeshan Ashraf need to take a risk the rest are not suitable for t20 format

Zeeshan Ashraf is also failing consistently.

Looks like only one viable option left!

:kakmal

Try Sarfaraz Kamran and any one of the remaining one from the list, give them some international games to prove themselves,if we do not have much T20 games left before WC then go for Sarfaraz give him confidence and some International games before WC

Interesting scenario re Rizwan at KK. They re-signed him and he's still not getting a game.

Dark forces at work? When you've got powerful Akmal and Safaraz lobbies at play i wouldn't be surprised if there's something dodgy about keeping Rizwan on the bench.

And, Rohail Nazir warming the benches at MS, and the pathetic Zeeshan is kept playing. Hope after today;s horrible inning against IU in a 9 over a side game , he will be shown the door.

Best option is to just give Ben Dunk citizenship along with Sammy, then pick him for the World Cup.

I was looking for answers for the potential keeper spot for the T20 20/20 World Cup but I am more confused now.

Kamran Akmal

We need some batting support for our bowlers to defend something, our batting line is a mess:ssa

If you go by the stats then it is clear none other than Kamran Akmal even though he is 40 but it doesn't seem bad as its a shorter version and you don't need to stick long with the same squad.

Kamran Akmal had good batting record in Australia too otherwise go with Zeeshan Ashraf.

Would have said Kamran akmal but i am terribly afraid of his butter fingers.

The Great Rizwan also dropped a sitter yesterday in the field.

Kami is a no-brainer.

The little we have seen of him at the international level was not convincing at all.

Ad to that the fact he isn't a first choice in a domestic league like PSL. It is enough to not select him for at least this year's world cup.

As anyone, you should prove you merit a place in the team and by not playing in the PSL he hasn't done any thing to convince us.

If you can’t field then you should stay out of the squad. Kamran dropped so many catches in that one match vs NZ in WC 2011 that it was borderline fixing.

How do we know for sure Kamran hasn't fixed matches? He was dropping catches in the famous 2010 series but I guess no video proof was found against him so he was given a pass. Also, besides dropping catches he was missing run out chances, stumping opportunities. He single handedly finished kanerias career. People here don't realize how much damage he did to Pakistan cricket.

He dropped Ross Taylor in 2011 world Cup who ended up scoring a match winning innings for his country. The guy should have some shame and at least apologize to the nation.

Take a punt and go with Kamran Akmal but at the expense of a Hafeez being dropped.

Can’t have 3 players who are 40 years old in a T20 side

Hafeez
Malik
Kamran

Can someone find Dunk’s long lost cuzzy somewhere in Pakistan, it will surely help fast track his citizenship

Anyone who has watched the Sydney test match knows Kamran Akmal is dodgy. Anyone can drop catches, and he can hide behind the excuse of not being good enough.

But what happened in Sydney, is blatantly obvious. For example the way he collected the ball and then didn’t break the stumps for an obvious run out.

I challenge even Hawkeye to say that wasn’t dodgy.

Some journalist posted Pakkstan Cup One day team squads

Sarfraz's personal trainer is selected in the squad(shehzar mohammad). Don't want to see Sarfraz play for Pakistan again

Very Tough choice Kami is good bat but his keeping is pathetic, Sarfraz is Ok keeper but batting is mediocre wrt T20 Rizwan is good keeper but pathetic T20 bat so very tough.

Rest are too risky

Kami is dodgy no doubt, but the example you gave, in the heat of the moment minds can get scrambled, the same happened in a womens game once, English player could have run out the lady but threw the ball to the other end without anyone in the frame are we saying that was match fixing aswell? without concrete evidence we cannot make accusations like this.

Interesting scenario re Rizwan at KK. They re-signed him and he's still not getting a game.

He dropped a sitter yesterday and lost the game for Karachi as a substitute. Seems to have stage fright and gets nervous on big occasions

That’s very different. Making a poor conscious decision happens in the heat of the game.

If you watch the incident, kami collects the ball and his natural motion is about to break the stumps. However he stops himself and avoids breaking the stumps. Every player, especially the keeper, practises this so much that you see them always whipping off the bails even when it’s unnecessary because it’s muscle memory.

So for Kamran to collect the ball and avoid the stumps is not a brain fade. Its a deliberate attempt to not break the stumps.

This isn’t a match fixing accusation. I’m simply saying that anyone who watches enough cricket can tell that this particular incident does not happen by accident.

Personally we need a good wicket keeper batsman someone who's better behind the stumps with the gloves more so than bat. I would love to have seen Rohail Nazir play.

I would have gone with Kamran Akmal but since he said Mickey Arthur has created this "fitness" problem in Pakistan and dismissed this fitness culture as akin to destroying the game in the country, I don't want him anywhere near the international team . . Ideally, I would want all young players/aspirants to be kept away from such opinions too! Toxic, backwards, jealous and downright unprofessional!
