Karachi, Feb 19 (PTI) Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Ehsan Mani on Wednesday indicated that the country might give up its hosting rights for the Asia Cup T20 tournament this year.

Speaking at the launch of the Pakistan Super League trophy at the National Stadium, Mani said that venue of the Asia Cup would be decided after taking into account the majority view of all the stake-holders in the Asian Cricket Council.

"We have to ensure that earnings of the associate members are not affected. It is not so much about the full members but about the associate members," Mani said.

The ACC is due to meet in first week of March where Mani said venues and other details of the Asia Cup would be finalised.

Mani''s statement comes in the backdrop of India''s refusal to travel to Pakistan for the tournament and insistence on playing its share of matches at a neutral venue.

India has not toured Pakistan since 2008 while it has also not played a full Test bilateral series with Pakistan since 2007 due to strained political and diplomatic relations. Pakistan did visit India in 2012 to play a short limited-overs series.

Wasim Khan, the Chief Executive Officer of the PCB, also indicated that Pakistan would be willing to forego its hosting rights if it can''t hold the full tournament at home.

He said most a neutral venue acceptable to all teams would be finalised.

Why can't they host just India matches in Dubai and the rest in Pakistan?

Karachi: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Ehsan Mani believes that Pakistan have now full potential to host an International Cricket Council (ICC) event in the 2023-2031 events cycle.

Mani while talking to media after the trophy unveiling ceremony along with Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchise owners stated that they will bid aggressively for an ICC tournament.

“Such a big event taking place in Pakistan after the 2008 Asia Cup. It’s important for Pakistan cricket as we are preparing to bid for ICC events during the 2023-31 event cycle,” he said.

“We want to show the cricket world that Pakistan has the full capability with full depth to host ICC events,” he added.

Chairman was also grateful to the squash legend Jahangir Khan on bringing the PSL trophy today in the ceremony and thinks that it is our duty to recognized other sportsmen of the country.

“We are grateful to him (Jahangir) for his massive support for the PSL and the spirit of the game also allows us to recognize and give respect to other sportsmen,” he maintained.

He also fulfilled his promise that Peshawar will host matches from next year. “Today, we are going to fulfill our promise that the whole effort is to host matches in Peshawar in next season of PSL,” he added.

“PSL will benefit the people of Karachi, there has never been such a big event in Pakistan as more than 2,000 people have come to Karachi to watch the opening ceremony of PSL,” he added.

“The success of the PSL is the result of teamwork, the PSL is a Pakistani product and if there is a mistake in the schedule of matches, there is an opportunity to learn from this,” he appreciated.

In the end, he hailed that without the support of PSL franchise owners, it was not possible to bring PSL completely back to Pakistan.

“Without the cooperation of franchises, the complete holding of PSL would not be possible in Pakistan, I thank the franchise owners for making the league successful. The effort is to show the positive identity of Pakistan in the world,” he concluded.

It must be noted that the PSL trophy unveiling ceremony took place for the first time in Pakistan where squash icon Jahangir Khan brought the trophy and it was revealed by PCB chairman Ehsan Mani.

The opening ceremony of season five will take place in Karachi where renowned names will perform and after the ceremony, the first match will be played between defending champions Quetta Gladiators and Islamabad United.

Man, these constant quarrel between BCCI/PCB is getting annoying. Put politics aside and get on with the sport. If both can't compromise, give the right to SLC/BCB. Atleast everyone will shut up and travel to play the tournament

That is what we were saying. How come suddenly BD decided to come to Pakistan unless PCB had agreed to forego Asia Cup rights

That would be logical and not that difficult logistically speaking.

What about the opposing team if India reaches the SF or Final.

Is it reasonable for the PCB to have two cities / stadiums on standby? What about the fans / sponsors / staff? Can they book their travel plans / accommodation at the last minute?

Don’t think it is possible...
